PB dev here, sorry you had to deal with people pestering you about playing PB instead of BD in your streams, hopefully you still enjoyed your time playing it for clarification too, we still have BD code and assets in the mod, but are trying to move away from it still and get rid of them

those vehicles in the test map had always existed and there are even enemy vehicle variants. however, due to some game breaking bugs, you never see them when you play bd in any other map

Extermination Day is actually planned for full release once v22 is finished. He's been touching it up alongside the main mod, and ED is meant to fully release with it.

Personally, I prefer Brutal Doom because it sticks closer to vanilla. PB is great, but all the custom weapons and enemies break the balancing on many maps. In general, both of these mods are better on maps designed specifically for them.

Brutal Doom really kicked up community interest and engagement for classic Doom back in the mid 2010s, and it has been a great mod ever since. Sgt. Mark is an insanely talented and skilled creator. He's even making a full fledged game based on GZDoom called Brutal Fate. I personally think Brutal Doom is superior. PB borders on being like Complex Doom, which is a clusterfuck in itself. BD keeps it simple comparatively.

Project Brutality began as an addon to Brutal Doom iirc. Basically takes it up to 11, but has long since spun off and became its own thing. I initially preferred Brutal Doom because it was better balanced overall, but PB has improved a lot over the years, and is better balanced while still maintaining a lot more new features over BD. Sgt Mark IV took a big break from BD to work on his own game, and in that time, PB pretty much has overtaken BD in terms of overall quality. There's a new version of BD coming out soon though, so I'm looking forward to that. Both are excellent.

Oh god, the Hell on Earth Starter Pack. I have many things to say about it, not many good ones. It looks fantastic, but plays terribly in my opinion. Even planned on making a video about it, like... 6 years ago. None of the levels flow well, utilize enemies well or have good item placement. At one point you have to fight a giant Cyberdemon with barely any ammo left, and then cross a bridge full of enemies, when you have... even less ammo. It feels less like a complete experience and more like an excuse to try out the new weapons and mechanics. Needs more time in the oven. I already don't feel too hot about Brutal Doom. I think it has too much feature creep and would probably fare much better as its own thing entirely than something which constantly tries to cling to the original Doom experience while enhancing it in ways that turn it into something unlike it. I mean... vehicles? Really? At what point do you just make a new game? Also, agree with you on Project Brutality making me dizzy. Those animations and screen shaking are too much. It looks neat, but it'd give me motion sickness after a while.

When I play Brutal Doom (or even Project Brutality) I listen to the 90s death metal - awesome experience.

This has got to be the friendliest voice I've ever heard review anything Doom related. Sounds like I've got a nerdy friend sitting next to be telling me all these neat things about the games I enjoy. I love it.

Ever since I played brutal doom and project brutality, it's the BEST stress reliever I've ever had.

I think what I liked most about Brutal Doom was how the weapons were handled, of all things. They're a lot more dynamic and fun to use, and the reloading for the assault rifle and shotgun was perfectly fine. It was also fun to shoot corpses to tear them apart, if only because it gave me more to do with whatever excess ammo I had, which was quite commonplace.

Honestly, the main thing I love about Project Brutality is the Revolver. Doing single Revolver-only starts on most classic maps is pretty fun because it forces you to really plan your attacks with only 6 shots before you have to reload. (does not work on slaughter maps) The problem of course is figuring out how to spawn one. I still don't know the proper command console code and looking up the sources has yielded broken results. Probably something I'll have to check for myself.

Extermination Day did release, at least the 001 beta version. Actually there are a few variants of it on Moddb now, even one compatible with vanilla GZDoom (in the sense it is packaged with the assets needed for it to run with almost any other mod, I don't think there's enough ammo to beat EDay with the vanilla arsenal). Personal favorite is Chebmaster's version, which fixes bugs and remasters most of the maps with new effects, backdrops and setpieces, but is only compatible with v21. I heard the full official release of Extermination Day will come out alongside the final build of v22.

Project Brutality is an amazing Brutal Doom conversion into a new++ game, with twice the weapons and monster. Just too much. If you want a perfect balance between vanilla gameplay with some tweaks and gushing out volcanos of blood try BRUTAL PACK V10. Best BD out there.

MarkSergent is a legend with this modpack. I played the one with Doom 1 and Doom 2 story. It is sogood but takes so long to complete without draining my battery too much in a good way.

Yeah, I may not like either of these mods, but that's me. Everyone is allowed their preferred way of playing classic doom. Me? When it comes to gameplay, I stick with vanilla...aside from toggling on the faster weapon switch option in Smooth Weapons. Graphics wise, I pretty much exclusively play with Voxel Doom plus Nash Gore and it's mostly finished voxel patch. There's no wrong way to play Doom. I have a streamer friend who only recently got into GZDoom, and had some gatekeeping asshole tell her that she should look for another source port cuz "All of GZDoom's enhancements are so foreign to the original engine that you're basically not even playing Doom when using GZDoom." That pos is entitled to their own opinions, but Doom is Doom, and there is no wrong way of playing it... except the Doom 3 BFG versions of the WADs, unless those are the only versions you have.

If I may make a suggestion...I think you should cover Hideous Destructor, LiTDoom and Feet on the Ground. They are all great "slower, tactical survival 'horror' mods" that change up what Doom is, but are still a ton of fun
