Eh there were ruins back then too. You ever wonder why Caesar, a senator, was stabbed at a meeting with all the other senators, at Pompey's theater? Why wouldn't the senate convene at the senate house? Because a some years back the two political factions (Caesar's populare faction versus the conservative optimate faction) descended into bloody gang violence, which got Caesar's ally Clodius murdered in broad daylight. Clodius supporters in turn decided to take him to the senate house and used it as his funeral pyre. Caesar was still in the middle of building a new senate house when he got shanked. Ha ha, good thing that was ancient history, and we now live in stable modern democracies with strong political norms that absolutely definitely won't descend back into tribalism where supporters of a losing faction would do something crazy like storm the senate house!!!
