Perhaps they use AI to help account for advantages between individual competitors and give a normalised perfomance metric from which the placings are determined.
Can AI be used? Of course it can. The real question we need to be asking is: SHOULD it be used? Should judging of all art forms be reduced to mechanical analysis by machines?
So there is a benchmark for robots. Seeing how far their quality of motions have come, i bet it wont be long till they can take part and at least in terms of technical terms would achiev high marks. Question would rather be how gripping such performance this would be for the viewers and if them would be allowed in the competition or have at least a seperate part like womens and men are seperated a third option for robots. After all not only in common language but scientific studies we also use the term of intelligence when looking at movement, muscle memory, fluidity and the learning at the beginning of our lives or later when we train to achiev certain tasks. Therefor it seems logical to me that this also a necessary part of true intelligence. Are we ready for that?

I fear you are correct. I'll tell you now because I believe AI is the next step toward a full world of censorship and propaganda. You may otherwise never know.
