To be honest, Sheldon pretty much always tells the truth when it comes to saying what Leonard never has the guts to say himself, particularly when it involves Penny and there are plenty of instances of that throughout the entire show.
@@ebonyloveivory Well...yes. You DO realize that this 'joke", such as it is, is based around racial stereotypes, right? And that the "writers" felt it was OK to write and film it despite that, right?
@@AlexSeverinski Are you going to criticize every single joke out there? And yes I do indeed recognize the racial stereotype and issues that are surrounding it. What I am laughing at is at Sheldon's persistence at it. I am free to laugh at a show, you DO realize that? And before you start your lecture on how "inappropriate" it is, trust me I am well aware as I am from a minority group myself. And YES. slavery was an issue back then and YES, Amy is telling Sheldon how inappropriate it is to compare them going to a party vs. slavery. I GET IT. I think that the writers did display it just fine.
@@ebonyloveivory If you're laughing at Sheldon's persistence at beating this joke into the ground, what you're really laughing at is the show's insistence on telling you how funny this joke is supposed to be and how much they have to repeatedly tell you it's funny even though it really isn't. Which, frankly, is pretty much the basis of the show's "humor": write pathetic and ridiculous dialogue, slather a laugh track over it and boom: instant laughs.
@@AlexSeverinski Exactly, thank you. Also, Leonard is a pathetic simp and he was from the Pilot the second he met Penny because all he ever did was try and do anything to impress her and win her heart when he shouldn’t have and when they were and weren’t together, all Penny did was take Leonard for granted, break his heart and stomp all over him, but Leonard just let her; Priya did the exact same to him and throughout it all, Leonard never stood up for himself, Sheldon always had the guts to stand up for him and say what Leonard never had the guts to say himself. And Leonard detests Sheldon for that?! Then he should have stood up for himself more against Penny and Priya.
Leonard seems like the kind of guy who would always belittle and make his girlfriend feel worse for every mistake she makes so that hopefully she would always view him as "an intelligent superior who cares so much". Also Leonard is SUPER insecure. He's the shortest and least muscular of all of Penny's exs so he will always get defensive because he doesn't know how else to compete with those guys. Also the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree, I bet he cares so much because he has unresolved issues with his mother and takes them out on Penny.
@@khalyleedwards7735 Penny had choices, you know. Why the hell she kept coming back to him. She could have gone with any man she wanted. But she decided she wanted Leonard.
And the funniest part is that he doesn’t even try to be savage here ! 😂 (and, well, he’s kinda right : just when he said it, I was thinking the same thing, but less funny than how it came out from his mouth 😆)
@Christopher Bingham None of that makes their relationship toxic though. They are both happy with each other. Penny has given plenty to the guys, nothing we can put a price on though. If she didn't work at the Cheesecake Factory Howard wouldn't have met Bernadette, if she didn't convince Sheldon to go on that first date with Amy their relationship wouldn't have evolved the way it did, she's been Raj's shoulder to cry on pretty much the entire show, and all the loving she has given Leonard lol
@Christopher Bingham Have you watched the show at all. This man-child stuff is just played for laughs because you know it's a sitcom. If they weren't happy why are they together? She clearly sees something in him that got her to marry him. Just because she is sometimes angry at his attitude when we see them doesn't and she is always angry.
@Christopher Bingham Ask her, she married him. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. For someone who comments on every Big Bang Theory video on youtube you sure don't know a whole lot about it.
@@OHCAM5 Penny is not the reason why Sheldon and Amy got together. Howard and Raj were the ones who secretly signed Sheldon up on that dating website and eventually found Amy. They were also the ones who talked Sheldon into going on the very first date with her.
I love how ppl say relationships are complicated (Leonard & Penny) but then we got Sheldon who generally doesn’t understand people, and yet Lenny’s relationship quarrel is so clear that he can spell it out. Right then and there Sheldon figured out why Leonard is so pissy about Zach and Penny.
0:30 - 0:45 Well, Sheldon isn’t wrong, and don’t make that face, Leonard, if he didn’t like that Sheldon said it then he should have had the backbone and the balls to say it himself but as usual, Sheldon ends up saying it for him.
Imagine being jealous and upset with your significant other because of something they did when they were so drunk they're lucky they even remember they did it. Imagine being overly upset about a fixable mistake your significant other made in their previous relationship. Sheldon is right but Leonard is insecure and inconsiderate in this case.
@@khalyleedwards7735 and this was before she was in a relationship with him. What is he so insecure about i will never know. Leonard always brings his insecurities in this relationship
@@khalyleedwards7735 So if someone gets drunk and fucks with random people you won't and can't be mad at them because they were drunk? Are you kidding me? Also Penny remembers it well, so she wasn't completely drunk. She also remembered that on the contract there wasn't any "Las Vegas" signs. Penny is well known to be able to handle alcohol. Amy even says that Penny's superpower is to know how much to drink to not have hangover the next day. So she knows how much to drink to still remember things she did.
krishna murthy I am “sensitive” because I myself used to be a victim of slavery. Excuse me for having empathy and not thinking that taking advantage of slaves, sexually or otherwise is funny.
Leonard's right, Zach may be a sweetie, but he can't take care of Penny. Even if Penny doesn't think she needs taking care of due to her overestimating herself as a possible actress.
ok,how many times did leonard actually propose?because I can only think of the one during sex and they make it seem like he's been doing it nonstop or something.
Tijopi11 ahh well I wasn't counting the one from valentines day because wasn't really a real one but yea other than those 2 occasions I really don't see it,maybe it was offscreen/unmentioned proposals or something
@@AlexSeverinski yea I am lol hell im military we make those jokes all the time get that stick out your ass and learn the difference between a joke and real anger u cry baby
@@TheArcher101 I don't think that she cheated (intentionally) on any boyfriends or husband for this matter... Though she only has short term rebound boyfriends, one after another. As per being married to Zach, she thought it was a fake wedding. So any coitus she made with anyone other than Zach is cheating... unintentional cheating... It still is cheating even if she doesn't know it... well... they're married!!!
How come everybody but penny knows those weddings are real? People love to blame Leonard because he was upset about it but most people would feel the same... Leonard takes shit from Sheldon (he is not smart enough and his quirks) and people blame his autism. When the showrunners have said he doesn't have it, OCD yes..then penny takes Sheldon side when she shouldn't, was about to break up with Leonard for a second time because she said their love felt boring, and yes I believe he can come off as desperate but the other guys that she was with did a lot less for her and she treated them better.. there is no way in hell I would have been friends with Sheldon (great character though) or want to be with penny... Leonard deserves a break

I found that Leonard and Rajesh was too needy, Leonard always questioning Penny, and her loyalty to him when they were together ,he was pushy when she wasn’t ready he was whiny when she didn’t say I love you ,after he said it. Raj,was needy, and pushy to his girlfriend Lucy, who had an anxiety disorder,he is also selfish and arrogant when he spoke to Penny when he was drunk Howard was a creep before he met Bernadette, towards Penny, and Leonard allowed it,and never stuck up for the woman he supposedly loved. Sheldon spoke the truth, when he saw something he didn’t like, but he was never a creep, towards women, he had women throw themselves at him, And when his girlfriend was upset,he tried to fix it.
Based on the amount of advertisements i am getting on youtube videos these days,it wont be surprising if youtube soon launches monthly plans for ad free browsing.
Specifically here, it means neither Penny nor Zak realised a Vegas wedding carried out by an Elvis impersonator was for real. They believed it was just a joke thing.
Penny always gaslighted leonard. They were the reason I almost stopped watching cause everytime they argued, penny always managed to put the blame on leonard. I'm not on leonard's side either cause he can also be one irritating boyfriend. They're just super toxic and I swear they felt forced at some points of the show.
You wanna know why Leonard's making such a big deal out of this, Penny! It's because of his mother! She's the one who made him like that and the fact that he can be a bit selfish and whiny!
Its also because on the whole Penny treats him like crap and everytime she does something wrong somehow she still seems to act like the innocent party. For example she is having a go at him for making such a big deal out of it, she just told him she was married!. How is Leonard selfish also? he would do anything to keep Penny happy thats what is so annoying about him the fact he aint got the balls to stand up to her most of the time.
@@TRIGMASTER06 She didn't know she was married, it's not like she was hiding it from him. The fact Leonard can't understand that and make it somehow about him is astonishing.
Unless the law was changed, Penny's first wedding was not legal. One has to register at the county court house first for a marriage to be legal. "Marriages in Las Vegas are legally binding throughout the U.S. and in most countries around the world. States and countries each have their own laws. In Nevada, both parties must present valid IDs to the county clerk who will issue the marriage license. Papers in hand, the couple must verbally commit to each other in front of a licensed marriage officiant, judge or justice of the peace and a witness". "both parties must present valid IDs to the county clerk who will issue the marriage license". This is the important part. Did they have a marriage license from the county clerk? Penny never specified.

god leonard was pathetic in this episode lol he kept pestering penny for this little thing that can be resolved after this event, and because penny has insecurities of her because of leonard, she chose to bring the guy there. a clusterfuck in their relationship if ive ever seeen on
I'd like to add on to your comment "…that can be resolved after this event". It was Thanksgiving Day. Everything was closed for 4 days. There was nothing they could do about it until Monday. The right thing for Leonard to do was shut up and enjoy the holiday.
Can not understand why you could get married without a license ... unless Vega Chapel has the authority to issue marriage license. I know some people get married in Vegas under alcohol influence. But they followed through with marriage license. So technically, Penny not knowing that they had been married indicates they never follow through with the license application. So it is never a legitimate marriage. It is just two people playing in small house called Chapel.
"A Las Vegas wedding is a valid and legally binding marriage between two people. Although Las Vegas weddings can be quick and easy, it is still a legal contract that is valid and binding for both US citizens and foreigners. Las Vegas weddings are legally recognized around the world."
if Leonard says will you marry me like he ever wants to get married like when penny was actually wants to get married with Zach like she wants to get in the way for it and she wouldn’t say let’s get married some point like when penny wants to get married with Leonard she says will you get married and then Leonard says huh mmmm and then he will say I ever wanna get married and when penny was starting to argue it out there like she ever wanna get married some other way like she was so very drunk and she will say will you married me and then Leonard doesn’t wanna get married like when Leonard wanna get a girlfriend named penny she ever say yes to him when penny first started moving to the building!
Only whine and cry in the comments as if it isn't a comedy TV show. Penny has an inflated ego and Leonard may get whiny at times but they have stayed loyal to each other through S5 - S12 which is like 7 yrs and a mad long time. Sorry to cut it to you, couples fight regularly in real life as well.
I can’t decide whether Sheldon is funny in this scene. Comparing himself to slaves isn’t funny as slavery was a truly awful thing that existed in America and still exists in parts of the world. What I do find funny is that he doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with it and the way he says “yes ms.amy” is funny. I guess what he’s saying isn’t funny but the tone of the way he’s saying it is funny as it is meant to be funny for the viewers
Well, let’s just try to remember that Sheldon really doesn’t do it on purpose and has much more difficulty than regular people to realize when he’s crossing the line Because due to being incredibly smart, he things very logically and tends to let go of any kind of emotional aspect when thinking and we can’t really blame his for being like that with a brain like his : so, unlike some people who are able to know or understand what’s offensive on their words but chooses to still be offensive anyway, Sheldon is not entirely responsible when he’s being offensive because it is EXTREMELY hard for him to realize when his words can be emotionally offensive to others (and I say that as someone who was also pissed at him for the whole slave comparison)
Aaron Kenyon I agree, Leonard was annoying and what’s worse he wouldn’t acknowledge that Penny was right that whenever she screws up, he always rubs it in and makes a big deal out of it, and thus makes her feel even worse about it and like an idiot. Leonard seriously overpraises himself a bit, he might be a better guy than so many others Penny has dated but he’s nowhere near perfect especially when he’s constantly nagging her and whining about her mistakes or what upsets him concerning her. Also, at least when Penny and Zack got hitched, it was when they were broken up, and Leonard was still hiding the fact that in his North Sea expedition even right now that he got drunk and made out with that other woman Mandy Chao so who’s he to judge Penny when he cheated on her at this exact point in time?
Scientasy-Guy I admit that Penny’s a bitch and Leonard’s a great guy, but he overpraises himself too much and gets too much of a free pass, remember at this moment right now, Leonard was hiding that he’d gotten drunk and made out on the North Sea Expedition with that woman Mandy Chao and he didn’t finally tell Penny until after they got engaged at the end of this season and at the end of next season when they eloped. Leonard is nowhere near perfect, he was always so afraid that Penny would cheat on him and she never did and he cheated on her so he’s a hypocrite when you think about it, he even asked Penny if she’d done the same thing while he was on the expedition and she hadn’t. So in all fairness, both Penny and Leonard are messed up and not perfect or better than each other.
Honestly, I don't think it was ever explicitly stated that Penny was drunk. I think she just assumed that Vegas marriages were fake. But, other than that, you're absolutely right. Penny already felt bad enough, and she didn't need Leonard making her feel worse. Plus, there was nothing they could do about it for 4 days.
@@vegeta30000 Yes, the fact that this show used a racist stereotype as joke fodder is offensive. And the fact that you can't seem to counter my argument with any proof that I'm wrong just shows you have no means of doing so.
@Christopher Bingham she made a mistake and acknowledged the mistake, and said she would get it taken care of, and Leonard kept throwing it in her face. It’s not like it destroyed or nearly destroyed Leonard and Penny’s relationship.
And don’t leave out the fact that Penny didn’t even KNOW she was married. She should have known they were real weddings, but like it was also said, she was intoxicated and had impaired judgment.
@Christopher Bingham It was a easily fixable drunken mistake she made when she wasn't dating Leonard. Also, if she thought it was fake, it wouldn't seem like such an important thing to bring up.
@Christopher Bingham I'm pretty sure she apologized at least once in this episode but Leonard kept bringing it up even after the apology. Also have you seen this show? Penny is definitely not smart enough for Leonard on any level. The only reason they're dating is because Leonard is in love with Penny and often in pursuit for. Also, Penny decided to give Leonard a chance even though he's not the kind of guy she would typically date.
@Christopher Bingham Imagine you made a mistake that you had no real knowledge of and someone constantly reminds you of it. Now imagine every time they remind you about it, they say it in a way that makes you feel worse and worse about yourself. Now imagine they consistently remind you of your mistakes as you try to fix them. That's not a healthy or helpful relationship, it's quite toxic and might get you smacked. Also it wasn't very masculine of Leonard. This is a tv show but if this was to happen in real life, women like Penny would have dumped men like Leonard for reacting like that. Tbh I'm not fond of their relationship either, they are not compatible but the heart wants what the heart wants so there's nothing you can do. Unless the writers were going to have one of Leonard's friends talk him into raising his standards while at the same time having Penny get serious with guys like Zack or her other exs.
Even if the show wasn't framing it as ok, it's still really offensive and disgusting that Sheldon would compare going to thanksgiving dinner with being a slave and I hate that it was played as a joke, it's so awful that he would say that.
Does Sheldon get his ass kicked at some point? Or at the very least does a person of color explain to him what a bad person he is in a loud public place so he’s throughly humiliated and the weight of his white privilege is laid bare in front of him? How about the writers? Does it at least happen to the writers?
