I have grade 1 hamstring strain atm. Half marathon in 20 days. I was going to start tapering on the 24th this month. What are your thoughts? Such a pain considering its my first halfa. Thanks Nathan

start your taper 10 days out from your half. Do a 3 mile run at goal race pace 4 days out from your race, easy jogging or off last 3 days leading in. Focus on a negative split in the race. Hope you have a great race. Continue to ice. I HIGHLY recommend getting a massage gun. These things do wonders for sore and aching muscles. Check it out here amzn.to/3Tbwh7o

If I don't have a pool, and I feel like the weekly impact is too much for me, would using the elliptical for my easy runs be a decent alternative until I feel I can reincorporate more impact into my regimen?

Elliptical is a GREAT alternative for easy runs as well JS.

I've started looking into heart rates more- Am I right that the heart rate at which a marathon is raced is somewhere around 160? If yes, that would help gauge my true fitness since right now my heart rate at 8:00 pace is close to 170. Thanks!

Appreciate your support ODS. We race our marathons just under or slight above anaerobic threshold effort.. HR may rise closer to max heart rate during some sections of the race but generally it is around 90% of max heart rate throughout the race.

So I had a workout that was supposed to be a 6mile at 5:48 pace but ended up running 5:53 pace. Is that considered a bad workout?
