In tcg countries if i dont want to play yugioh im not gonna play MTG, that shit is too annoying with the lands having to accrue resources over multiple turns before u can even combo off
Another reason is that in tcg countries lets say Amerikkka for example, most people spend their time partying/going to clubs/bars/etc, so games(both video games and card games) do not sell as much here than it does in ocg countries
I wouldnt be surprised if Konami is avoiding importing Rush Duel if only for the fact that its more heavily marketed towards children, meaning it would open them up to some kinda class action lawsuit in relation to child gambling. Its also frustrating because OCG regions have stricker gambling laws preventing the insane stuff we get in the TCG, while also having communities that are SIGNIFICANTLY less willing to let Konami's behavior slide. I mean i regularly encounter people that get UPSET when a card powerful card gets printed and its NOT exclusively Secret/Ultra Rare only like what, if anything we should get what the OCG does and have every card multiple rarities of the standard 5 (Normal Rare Super Ultra Secret), hell we dont even get stuff like Parallel Normal Rare variants of normal cards its awful how much variety we lose. Seriously i have never had someone give a good reason why we SHOULDNT get every card in a pack always available at Normal rarity at the same rate, increased rarities should exclusively be for collector value, NOT for making the game less accessible in the second hand market to trick people into buying more packs.
Perhaps there's something in regards to pull rates. From what I understand, OCG has bulk rarity for just about everything for budget players and then higher rarity for collectors or rarity hunters. So cards seem to be generally more affordable for players. TCG still uses the archaic tradition of doing basically only one specific rarity for every card and the occasional higher rarity for certain Super Rare cards.
You're on the right track but for the wrong things. Rush duels just isn't as popular as a side format in the states, and with it being a side format as is, Konami can afford to keep it restricted to their home region of Japan, which is also their most profitable region (YGO is the second most popular card game in Japan, behind only Pokemon.) As for rush duels being advertised towards children and class action lawsuits... that will never happen in America. Japans laws prevent the gambling aspect sure (just see rarity collection 1, it's an exact copy of the OCG printings and compare it to rarity collection 2, TCG exclusive) but American (and most western countries) laws do NOT protect consumers from this particular practice. It's how JRPG's and modern western game studios get away with the insanely predatory microtransactions we have in video games, and why all card games in the west are so expensive, from baseball cards, to YGO. Then there is the American "Nerd culture" attitude on items like this, thanks to millennial parent and the scam of 90's comics, everyone is always thinking to themselves "it's an investment, I can sell this thing for thousands of dollars if I have too!" only to find out that it's worth literally nothing because its paper and cardboard and no one will spend that kind of money on anything like that, especially pre-owned pieces. The secondary market gets away with outrageous prices too because we buy singles from there in order to compete for crap prizing. I personally think the secondary market is going to collapse soon just because people will stop buying cards all together at this rate. Sadly Konami doesn't really care what their non-Japanese customers think, and this is true of ALL of their properties, not just YGO. The shareholders might care but ultimately with it's primary and most consistently profitable market being Japan, we will never have it like it is in the OCG. Konami would rather let it die than bow down to us westerners. Our attitudes of superiority, and of being owed everything, combined with out lack of impulse control (specifically in finances) and a poor economy combined with a strong Japanese market un-reliant on the west and very likely racist company leads means that YGO will likely die if we outright boycott. Then it will be just as niche as it was in the 90's, just with timewizard formats because we wouldn't be getting new cards.
I live in turkey and one usd is 20tl and it feels like 20 usd for us soooo yeah. anything above 2-3 dolars hurts like hell. like I have a ghost rare red eyes flare metal dragon and no one bought it for 3 years thanks to it being 150 usd aka 3k for us for piece of paper lol
Yeah I live in Egypt and 1 USD dollar cost around 30 pounds in egy when your average budget is 200 and one pack is worth around 120 it's does really hurt
I started proxing in yugioh because i honestly wanted to have decks to have fun, and buying like.... 12 copies of infinite impermanence / ash blosson is kinda of a terrible idea. Also in latin america the game is extra expensive because vendors dont sell in TCG market price, some of them search the more expensive market price and even them charge more because "the card is hard to find" Zeus Ultra rare is a 50usd card
Try to wait for a reprint and buy bulk with friends from a place where it's way cheaper even with shipping and such Everyone gets everything they need and not too expensive
@@lamrethal695 In Pokemon, the idea of only buying one playset of a staple and swapping it between decks is insane. That's because their staple cards cost what staple cards should cost - some of the cheapest cards in the game. And if you're printing proxies anyway, you might as well make as many as you want. If you're buying nicely made proxies, that's a different story.
The current print quality is also outrageous. Cyberstorm Access has been one of the worst examples yet. The silvering and miscuts makes the cards look like they've already been played excessively for many years right from the booster pack.
Convince your local game store to run heart of the underdog formats. You can still support them by buying in every week, and buying card sleeves. Just use your jank that you get off of sets.
It's painful when even a rogue deck can set someone back enough money equal to a brand new game. A lot of my friends that either haven't played or used to play Yu-Gi-Oh! have told me that they would always prefer to play physically with the cards than through simulators but when even a non-competitive deck still usually costs too much, without even getting into staples, it chases them away... I want my friends to be able to enjoy this but until Konami actually releases cheap entry points, without kicking the player in the teeth somehow, that wont happen...
in the early days of our community in Dubai, I allowed the use of OCG cards in any event I hosted as long as the card is released in the TCG, this helped many budget players being able to play with the best META cards.
True story: I stopped buying boxes because out of the last 5 boxes I ever bought I only got secrets from 2 boxes. I only buy singles now and are willing to wait for reprints if the prices are too high.
I hope that the "non-sponsored, PR unfriendly" creators like you and House of Champs eventually get together and use your reach to make these issues as widespread as possible. For years Konami TCG has spit on the player base with lies (remember the "we don't short print" stuff?) and outright predatory practices, while reducing their products' quality as a whole. As individuals, we can just do so much. But if we can rally together behind a group of creators with a wider reach, we can really organize and consolidate demands and actions. As everything in life, we're stronger together.
The Wild Survivors card list is a big reason to do something. Putting 7 out of the 10 URs of the set as Vanquish Soul cards when that deck only was supposed to be a Tier 2 at most deck is disgusting and blatant price fixing. All other deck builder packs before hand (or at least the ones I can remember) have the UR ratios at 3:3:4 per deck theme included in the pack. This ratio is 1:2:7 which is already bad, but it gets worse when you look at OCG deck lists of Vanquish Soul and see that on average 17 copies of the cards that are UR in TCG are ran. This time in YGO legit is making me want to quit the game because as you pointed out, Konami does not care in the slightest about the consumer base unless they start not buying the product, which will take an act of some deity in order to happen. I feel sorry for people who wanted Vanquish Soul cards because now they're probably going to have to shell out several hundred dollars for a deck that's not even the 3rd best deck in the format.
I really wanted to get my hands on those, it felt like modern Koa'ki Meiru and I loved it. But man, so many UR is ridiculous, no way I spend anything on that, that feels so dirty. And as you pointed out, it's not even a top-tier deck, nothing justifies this paywall to fun
It's crazy to me more people don't do what you recommend. They're insanely simple choices that don't even have the slightest strain on your wallet if you really wanted to try out Yugioh with no effort whatsoever. I'll admit though, I play 95% retro formats & personally I like my decks to be authentic and have no proxies, but at least if I'm buying a bunch of expensive cards I know that'll mostly hold their value in some way shape or form, unlike the overpriced modern cards that, without question, will get reprinted eventually and lose value.
Don’t forget you can also find singles in your local area, really helpful side ads show up periodically from your browsing and in a few clicks you can even make a new friend
I think I've def been part of the problem by buying display boxes in hopes of getting something cool. Sometimes it's just fun and nostalgic to open a ton of card packs. However, I definitely see how that plays to the gambling side of konami's product model. I've been eyeing some proxy cards for use in my decks (all non-meta/ GOAT) and will opt for that route in the future.
as someone from the balkans(so pay wise the third world) it's so hard to justify actually playing yugioh, which I genuinely love. When I'm a student that barely makes ends meet and when the average salary here is around 400-500 euros, how am I supposed to play decks that cost THE ENTIRETY of my months salary
We need to be treated like OCG, they have common Accesscode for example and many more cards that have low rarity and high rarity. Putting generic cards behind a massive paywall is unfair, they are treating TCG like trash.
Spread this message further. Also, just because Konami isn't becoming as greedy and stingy as Wizards of the Coast doesn't excuse them. They're still greedy themselves, just not as bad, which is still bad. Sure, they won't do that one and only print of The One Ring, but that's not good enough.
In all honesty I get you. I for example was excited for VS it is at best a 1.5 tier Control deck and I was able to scrounge up 80euro(which lets be honest its a very good amount of money). I am strictly a budget player enjoying decks like marincess, Utopia and Traptrix, so this would have been a big investment for me. I was super excited for VS 'cause by looking at the last deck build set I knew I was only looking at about 3 ultras slots for the deck. Imagine my shock when they anounched not 2 or 3 ultra slots but a woping 7! I was literally left with my jaw open. I could not believe the greed. I am just literally aint gonna spend any money now. More like I refuse too. If they are like this then I aint gonna bother with new archetypes or sets anymore I am just gonna go and play Edison with my buddies at our LGS and have fun that way.
One of the most frustrating things is seeing new cards come out that you're interested in and then your first thought is "Oh well I guess I can buy them when they get reprinted". It's even worse that most of the time it's for staple cards so the decks you play are already a leg behind the other players who can afford to obtain those cards. Prosperity was released almost 2 and a half years ago and a playset right now will cost you around 100 USD. That card just by itself would be a HUGE boost to so many budget players and rogue strategies, but those players can't afford to get their hands on a playset.
Recently I got my hands on copies of Rise TCG cards and while I don’t care for the gameplay of said game like I care about yugioh, I was amazed at the high quality of the cards. Textured, spot foiling, selective gloss, rainbow edged foiling, thick cards with full art, absolutely incredible, gorgeous cards. It made me so sad for how low quality ygo tcg cards are
It's almost impossible to play a meta deck here in Brasil, a single box costs the equivalent of 2 weeks of work, heck, a playset of Triple Tactics Thrust costs more than what we earn in a MONTH. In my LGS we are mostly playing Edison, but some old cards are extremelly difficult to find here and others are expensive too, like over 20USD for a Trap Dustshoot
I just want boxes to have better ratios , like they’ll win more money if everyone could buy boxes at the same prize and know it’ll have the deck they want
Konami should go back to ultis and ghosts but for different cards , like know what cards will be good , and make them super , while having the possibility of having them in ulti or starlight/ghost
Konami have not released many games at all in the last few years, ironically most of the video games from Konami we've gotten in recent years have been Yu-Gi-Oh video games. Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution, the Rush Duel Switch game, Master Duel, Cross Duel, as well as continued regular updates to Duel Links. Over 50% of Konami's new games since 2019 have been Yu-Gi-Oh related.
This game as a consumer is absolute garbagge, and makes players absolutely miserable. Most people I met at this game are either tryhards or feel like trash. Sometimes I feel that image of yugioh players being losers is beacause you can't help but feel like one knowing you spent so much money on cardboard , you try to hide that fact but on the inside you know and it permeates through your demeaner. I do not try to be disrespectful with the community, im just telling my case. If you ever feel bad or trapped with this game I encourage you to do other things or play in a simulador, even master duel , I truly loved the game but that feeling was horrible, I've felt much better after leaving on so manes levels. Also don't suffer with money
Sunk cost fallacy is the primary reason why the TCG is still alive, only second to the nostalgia factor. The competitive players can't quit since they've already spent so much money and time into the game, even if they might not enjoy playing as much anymore. It basically becomes like an addiction at that point and deep down it makes them miserable.
@@IYIosefu Exactly, that feeling of being in a loop is the same as any drug, and I mean seriously like a drug. A good thing to have in mind there is the fact that is better to quit before losing more money and time, both of those just keep stacking the more you keep at it
@@piramaster9294 Most people won't change though, even though everyone knows the TCG is a huge scam by this point, so i don't feel sorry for them. Maybe things will change in the next couple years when the game is gonna get even more stale and the average Yu-Gi-Oh will get old enough to let it go for other reasons. It's the same reason why Konami still hasn't pulled the plug on Duel Links. There's enough competitive whales that are too invested to switch game. The Duel Links shop is specifically designed around sunk cost fallacy to have you digging deeper into the boxes and waste gems/money. It's quite literally gambling.
Great video! I've been following your content for a while now, thank you for voicing these concerns MonkeyFight, keep it up, you're not alone in this. Honestly at this point I'm sick of TCG, in my opinion it's either the OCG way or the highway. Since last year I switched to being an OCG collector, looking at where TCG is at I'm glad of that decision. My god the difference in quality of products and cards, no way I can bring myself to being scammed by sealed TCG anymore. Now my only involvement with TCG is just buying cheap singles to try fun decks with my friends. Also, thank you for mentioning the situation over in Latin America, in my country the community may be small but very passionate and it's sad that it can't grow because of the insane prices of fucking cardboard.
Well here's the video I was waiting for. I didn't think I would see anything new, and I was pleasantly surprised. Your praise of proxying cards was an initial shock for me, but giving it enough thought, it's brilliant. If a bunch of people start proxying in a certain area, the stores will buy less product to keep up with demand and rely on selling older singles online. This directly lowers the price of new staple cards and sealed product (because less people care about the newer cards) and this now gives an edge to other companies sanctioning events. They can now allow proxies which capitalizes on a sector of the market Konami is neglecting. All of this would lead to Konami losing out on a HUGE market that initially they could push around but have now lost due to competition: budget players. Budget players will stop supporting stores that don't allow proxies (The big stores that Konami relies more on for their product sales) and they will stop attending larger events run by Konami because they now have the option to play competitively in a format that they don't have to sell their soul to buy a $600+ deck to participate in.
I would really like to hear your opinion on other groups hosting their own tournaments, such as old ARG and PPG tournaments, and the banlists they made for their tournaments. People seem to dislike these tournaments because they could "theoretically" be used to manipulate prices with their own banlists, but I always thought they were a necessary part of forcing change in the game because Konami blatantly does the exact same thing themselves. If a bunch of people stop playing Konami's events and buying THSF in 2015 when Konami is short printing the Nekroz monsters to hell because ARG is hitting Nekroz hard on their lists and hosting tournaments, then Konami is going to be hesitant to make moves as disgusting as that in the future out of fear of losing their customers.
I would always love for more groups to hold tournaments. I personally do my best to support what events I can such as the HAT Format championships which I contributed to the prize pool and commentated for. The problem is it's extremally hard to manage and set up big tournaments. I hope as the community changes and grows they'll start to be attempted more and become more common.
So any company who like to sell you something is scamming you then? I hope you live on a self-sufficient farm and do not buy anything at all my dude. Otherwise your comment makes no sense at all.
No any company that actively engages in in anticonsumer policies, lies to its customer base about its products, and cuts as many corners as possible, is scamming you. But I guess you're okay with being screwed over as long as you get your shinny cardboard. Heaven forbid someone wants a better product.
This is literally why i started making a 3+ player homebrew format. I wanted to make more use out of the cards I already own. I mean, I have a Labrynth deck, but thats besides the point. Memes aside: if you banned ZEUS, both Barrage & Drident could come off the forbidden list tonight in the normal TCG format. Labrynth Zoo is such an awesome deck to pilot when both ZEUS and half of the games meta floodgates are banned.
Konami should take their printing policies from Cardfight. If you see a card printed in Japan, and see its rarity, you know this will be the rarity it comes to in English. No swapping good, lower rarity cards to secret (Pot of Duality was a super at first in the OCG, for 5 bucks!), I don't know why Konami hates its foreign markets so much, but it's frankly annoying. If only MD would allow a match feature to discourage degenerate strategies like Crooked Cook in defense mode, then it would be perfect!
I'm from argentina where game stores are forced to go all legal and pay ridiculous taxes for imported products, while we live right next to a country with next to no import taxes you can just drive to and from. It's really hard to get ahold of enough stock at the right prices by buying from game stores.
I'll buy a pack every now and then just because I like to pop one every once in a while, and I buy the structure decks to get the support cards since the "pulls" are guaranteed (Traptrix structure deck with Raigeki, Feather Duster, Ash Blossom, and Evenly for only $11 is an absolute steal) but other than those, I always buy singles. Crazy to me how low Konami has gotten, despite the radical shift in rarity they went through. I remember way back in the day when getting an ultra rare was like 1 in 64 packs or something else crazy like that. Now every box is guaranteed at least two and a secret usually, or something like that, I forget the math. But it's nuts how they went from being cheaper despite being a lot more scarce, to becoming waaaay more accessible but costing a fortune.
As someone who loves the game, I only buy the structure decks from time to time, as at least there is some cheap reprints that can go of for more expensive over time. Boosters, tins and anything that is random is too overpriced and short printed to the point that you are really saving yourself so much money by buying singles. It's almost the same as winning the lottery by buying hundreds of scratch tickets, just better to not do it at all and spend your money on something that you know is guaranteed. Proxys and fake cards are basically the cheapest way to play any card game and also is fun to create the cards yourself, because you get whatever you want with little effort and learn some useful skills in the process of the making. I am using pokemon and mtg cards that I don't need to print cards from other games or to create my own, once you get the correct measurements it works like a charm and actually looks neat
I was getting into buying physical cards (singles) around late 2021 and have been doing so on and off to build a few decks- however having seen the difference between OCG and TCG rarities I've stopped making decks months ago. Also def recommend YGO Omega and other simulators to play with friends
The OCG business model is right there... Right, right there... Sure, make your big releases, but like. Man. It would be really nice to have the rarity options. People would be able to still bling out their deck, and still be able to have access formats
You do realize they will never do it because they know the tcg community is filled with a bunch of sheep and morons, who will buy it all regardless? They will never do that.
The OCG business model exists as it is due to fierce market competition and a thriving card game scene. If they attempt to milk their playerbase too hard there are four other games to play instead instead of the atomized TCGs that exist in the West.
@@geek593 This is correct. But it is also correct that they could choose to give their TCG customers the same, better treatment any time they want. Nothing is stopping them from doing so, and doing so would at the very least earn them a lot of much-needed good will. But they instead choose to be much more predatory.
@@sallas09 >Nothing is stopping them from doing so There are plenty of factors that could go into it. Scale being one of them. The cost of operating in all regions other than Southeast Asia alone probably accounts for a huge chunk of the premium we pay. And unless they decide to drop support in certain regions that can't change.
You’re becoming one of my favorite RU-vidrs!!! I always buy singles (except for like tins cuz I love them) but I agree the game getting wayyyy to pricey!!! Keep up the great videos!!!
An addition to 2:26 section, strangely Roblox has a Yugioh simulator called YGO Dimension Duels X, which has a plethora of duel modes, and cards from both the ocg and tcg.
Your videos made me never want to buy booster packs anymore. The OCG practise sounds much better not only because of the Secret Rares being upgrade rares rather than a set in stone rarity. When I heard that in the west Konami actively cheats on us by upranking raritys for cards which results in 500+ $ deck prices (because a playset of a fucking common stample in the OCG costs 3 times 80$ here and you need multiple cards like these LOL) I really felt shitted on. Everyone should do them a favor and do the same. And I am still waiting for a banlist that actively tries to pull the game together rather than doing damage control and thinking how to gain the most money gain out of it. A banlist isn't worth little if all it does is weakening the current meta to make room for an even less balanced meta. I do think the Proxy method might be the best way to keep the game alive but also show the biggest problem. If you can't afford cards and instead print the ridiculos overprized stuff you can set a sign. Otherwise the virtual simulators are the go to method for playing. I'm into Edo Pro and its former programs since middle school and even playing regularly custom cards format with friends there (which is even easier to do on Dueling Book) so yeah you can have a wonderful time playing yugioh while spending only your electric bills.
I have tons of proxys just because so many are expensive as hell. Unfortunately, the local store of my region are konami slaves and they cry a lot when I ask if I can play one duel using them. I mean, I'm not rich so it's impossible for me to have strong staples, but many of them have.
Riot actually just cut support for legends of runeterra like a couple weeks ago by pulling the writers out to try and chase clout off of the success of arcane. so there is a strict timeline on how long the content by the original dev team will last. Rough timing on that one. Great vid though, keep up the good content!
Keep the videos coming friend, I will like and comment on every single video calling out Konami’s horrible policy. Of course, I have subscribed already. Anyway, not sure if anyone has lodged a complaint to governments about this policy because it’s dangerous towards children. Come people, let’s discuss.
I wanna buy every card that's part of the entire Albaz story but that's really difficult to do when most of those cards are short-printed secrets that I'll barely have any other use for, especially with how budget I try to be, so I think I'll just try proxying the cards instead.
If Konami were to release products with higher rarity reprints of classic cards that aren't worth much, but contain complete playable decks for formats like Edison and GOAT, while also promoting these formats at events I wonder if casual Yugioh nostalgia heads might make up a portion of people who would buy a prebuilt deck with GOAT era cards that they remember from childhood. it could also be convenient for players looking to compete so despite the individual cards not needing to be worth much could still be sold. Its hard to tell how effective it would sell in reality though.
a realy good point, on my city we suport the proxy whit some rules to help new and some old players that dont have the money to put a barone on the deck XD
I'll do it Tin I'll get but otherwise singles Tin since I need everything and tin is storage and I think it's nice this time Otherwise I don't see me buying anything
Konami annoys me. They never port or remake old yugioh games. They could make old yugioh games on gb and gba on nintendo online. Thry could put dawn of destiny in gamepass They could pack forbidden memories and duelist of roses on ps classic. Also they closed yugioh online 2012 i lost 300 euro.
I miss cards having multiple rarities so it was cheaper to get cards and overall made for a healthier 2ndary market as well. instead of 1 to 2 super expensive chase cards that swing the overall value of cards to all or nothing.
SA Yu-Gi-Oh dying hits home. I used to play in 2014-2015, and the only deck I could afford was Ritual Beast. After my one deck got shafted from the meta, I couldn't play the game anymore, and my locals just died. There's not a single Yu-Gi-Oh card being sold in my entire estate nowadays. Trust me, I checked. Throughout multiple cities.
I think we as the player base should come up with our own meta, and player based tournaments. We don’t necessarily have to buy new boosters but instead convince shops to open packs and sell singles instead of just boosters & packs, the idea is to give Konami less money as possible while making the game accessible to players also allowing LGS to set the prices for singles since they get bulk for dirt cheap. We should also ignore most of the OCG rulings in hopes to turn the tides in favor for casuals and competitive players alike. I’m just brainstorming here so any constructive criticism is appreciated 😅
I agree with pushing back on Konamis bad policies, but unlike what feels like many others what I love about the game is modern YuGiOh with how fast pasted and comlex it is. So older formats and other TCGs are not really an option for me. I could maybe try out something like TOSS format but I think so far there is not really a community for that.
(sorry if i mess up the english) Im from south america and loved at first sight the Vanquish soul art, and when i heard they are inspired from Fighting games i knew i would enjoy playing with them, until now i have always been a budget player, i waited weeks or somethimes months for a card to be low in price, so i can buy it and play with it against my friends, but seeing the WHOLE V.S arquetipe was Ultra R, literally made me not playing it now, i know its gonna be extremely high in price, and knowing the vendors around here, they gonna price it even more saying things like " oh, it on demand rn " I hoped this arquetype release would be like in ocg, affordable, but no, konami wanted more and more money from this side of the lake. But there's always hope. Recently ive seen some pretty good proxys, and after seeing this vid im def going to proxy the entire arquetipe, is just to play with friends and have fun, thats the core of a game if im not wrong, not just throwing away money to some greedy company that does not care about it fanbase/consumers. So yea thanks for reading this, hope we all make our discomfort loud and clear against konomoney. Have a nice day.
The best thing to recommend, against the tide of predatory TCG monetization, would be... Games that aren't TCGs! For years I played essentially only Netrunner. An LCG like that makes it practical to actually have every card and play every deck. (And of course Netrunner's fanmade continuation is proxy-friendly.) Most of the LCGs are dead (with most of the surviving ones being mere co-op games), but I would rather play a dead game with my friends at my house, if it really has the best gameplay and an interesting meta, than play a bad and predatory game (like Magic) that has millions of players.
6:57 Thanks for promoting Runeterra. That online card game is proof that you can have the players get all the cards easily without paying and still last long.
I’d also recommend trying a new TCG: Grand Archive TCG because they have owner who closely listen to feedback and try their best for the betterment of the community
Around 1 - 1.5 years ago I quit yugioh and started playing Flesh and Blood. While it can be expensive. The most expensive cards can be used in multiple decks and are mostly 1 offs. I kept my old yugioh stuff and sold everything that had value. It hurts that everything rotates so fast in yugioh. I even started buying OCG stuff because of the high rarity cards that are super cheap and fun to collect.
I like the idea of playing with OCG cards, there original cards just in another language, their print quality and rarity variety is much better and they're cheaper to get
Support Battle Spirits Saga, you van build every deck for under 500$, evey card in the game even the max rarities go for under 20$. getting a playset of all the commons, uncommons, rares, even, some x-rares can be bought at under a 1$ for card! Most cards are in the 0.25$ range. . . I dunno how else to explain how bandi has been treating us with all the respect in the world. The community is top tier too
I'm curious as to how expensive you feel the game should be like for example you can play more casual on a budget the trap trick structure was a cheaper alternative for players. I'm not saying they don't do scummy things and everyone wants cheaper cards but it would be interesting to here want you think the prices should be or what the rarity distribution should be etc.
just do like in ocg, that have multiple rarity for the same card in the same set. Yeah you can play your deck at max rarity if you want, but not everybody want and can afford cards like prosperity which is still at least 40$ per copy (and the card has been released like almost 2 years ago) Or do like pokemon which is cheap as hell. Most meta decks cost under 100$ because they release equivalent of Duel Devastator box frequently. Like in ocg ygo, you can play the "alternative full art shiny ultra secret rare" variant and it will cost more, but you're not forced to do so just to play the game
@@vladvsplara Would be enough to accept OCG cards in TCG tournaments to be fair. I come from Magic, yeah i do have a 1200USD commander deck, but i also have a "10.000" dollar proxxy deck. Nobody cares about proxy cards in Commander, as long everyone plays on the same powerlevel of a deck. Im fine if proxys are not allowed in tournaments, but OCG cards too? That makes no sense. Its the same card, just the translation is missing. But if you have a spanish TCG card with translation, while nobody knows spanish its fine. This is just money milking. I bought Kashtira, Barone de fleur & fieldspells from tearlaments as OCG cards. I dont care about tournaments yet, just to have fun playing with others.
@@vladvsplara yea that's fair I wonder what happens to local stores if you make everything super cheap. It would be intresting to see if how much you could increase the player base but I do wonder if konami is actually leaving monsy on the table or are they just potimising for it. I think the best thing they could do it try and make it worth it. the reason why is obvisly profit but wonder if they can get away with it pokemon is a different ball game just the brand they have is so much bigger the big money drive from that I don't think is the cards in the same way for yugiho is all about the cards.
Some good points, but as far as the section on proxies..... Yeah man, "Any store worth their salt should sell you proxies." translates to, "Stores should sell you fake cards and lose money because they aren't selling real cards they paid for." Hate to break to you, but, proxies are fine and all when playing casually or testing, but there does not exist a world where a game will support the use of fake cards in their tournaments. Also, magic the Gathering does NOT support Proxies. The 30th anniversary product you showed, are not tournament legal, and not for use in any form of sanctioned Magic play. Real big miss there man. For real though, fuck Konami.
If there anything I'd love to see konami change is: Make all cars accessible in all rarity like ocg does Stop making Chase cards high rarity Stop printing bad quality cards
Konami could simply reprint cards that are on the banlist but commonly used in alt formats. Goat has several of these like delinquent duo, tribe infecting virus, metamorphosis and trap dustshoot. Tribe infecting virus for example has not had a reprint since the water starter deck from 2005
@@TheCardTrooper all the more reason for Konami to actually reprint it. They had the perfect opportunity to in Legendary Duelists: Duelists from the Deep
Exactly. And it hurts the future of the game. How can the tcg get new players when the kids can’t even attempt to get into the game. And giving multiple rarities wouldn’t hurt Konami at all. They could still have starlights and ghost which would make the whales buy tons of boxes but with lower rarities more people can play the game. And with better pull rates more people might buy a box. Like making almost all the cards in one of the best archetypes locked into ultra rares in the next set just makes people not want to buy them
My problem is that japanese have different rules on cards peices and rarity making em cheaper. A 100€ card here is like 5€ there but we can't use japanese cards in TCG even though they're the same cards. And talking about master duel: after 1.5 year it's still a fucking beta. It's fun to play it but it's missing so many things players are running away from it
Honestly, I wish that Konami would let us use ocg cards as long as they are legal in the tcg. I understand why there is a separation but ocg has better rarities too, imagine having ulti ash blossoms. I’d have so many more complete deck from having staples in the ocg but not tcg.
I don’t know, but almost everything you mention hurts LGS as much as Konami, if not more; the only thing that technically hurts Konami more is playing other physical card games if the LGS support them. Also, Proxying in Commander is only acceptable for most people because it is a casual format, and proxying in any sanctioned event is strictly forbidden and could lose them their status as an official WPN Store, and I think the same applies to OTSs and Konami
In Magic it doesn´t matter which language a card has, as long its legal. In YuGiOh you are fine with a spanish card if you have the translation ready, but not a OCG card, which is literally the same.
@@anonym3852 That is because the formats are different, so you can only use cards from your respective format. I would also like if both formats combined, but that would be awful for LGS, and English cards would probably stop circulating.
@@definitelynotmany4972 There is no reason why i shouldnt be able to play a Barone de fleur which is OCG in a TCG format. Because it is also legal in both format. As long you have a translation ready, you can play french or spanish cards in a english tournament. So it is still the same card. Just money making, nothing else.
@@anonym3852 That is also true. But there is value in knowing instantly if a card is legal in a format based on the language of the card, and that would not apply if OCG cards were legal in TCG. Also, I think I heard their cardstock was noticeably different
Hi I'm from Colombia and YES the cards are a lot for these part of the continent. Just for examples I bought a very Cheap Yosenju Deck for like 10 Dollars here. ... I tried with my friends to copy MBT's Series Broke Boy Yugioh but with our currency, let's say making a 10 Dollar Deck it's hard.
Lol what is Yugioh now a day. The game has changed so much that now u can negate stuff over and over again and its like no big deal. I quit around 2006 glad am not „investing“ into this BS
I'm honestly a little sad that you didn't mention YGO Omega as another 3rd party option for playing yugioh online, as it's honestly the most quality online ygo experience I've played so far. That aside, great video as always 👍
I only came back to yugioh a month ago after 15 years by buying the new starter deck x3 and a 2022 tin for the fun of it. I got no manga art cards but still managed to get my money back in value ty to a 70$ and 15$. But looking at packs oppening I quickly found out that buying cards at the unity on cardmarket was wayyyy cheaper until you want a tier 0 deck.
Realistically you picked a decent time to start. We're coming off a massive wave of meta staple reprints and are about to move into nationals reprint season where last year's decks will see easy access reprints. Nothing has really gotten worse as far as smart purchasing habits go. Hell, I'd argue they've gotten better since most meta cards got their value slashed in the past year. If you want to play the shiny new hotness on release week you'll pay a premium but budget players are sitting pretty right now.
@@AdamChopdat It's slated for reprint in a little over three months in this year's tin. Funnily enough Lubellion is the most expensive single playable right now since it's in that weird spot of recent but not super recent and two decks really want their copies (Branded and Dragons).
