During the Society of Hematologic Oncology (SOHO) 2023 Congress, the Lymphoma Hub spoke to Jonathan Friedberg, James P. Wilmot Cancer Centre, New York, US. We asked, How can we improve care for elderly patients with HL?
Firstly, Friedberg explains that older patients (aged ≥60 years) with Hodgkin lymphoma have lower survival outcomes and are often under-represented in clinical trials, such as ECHELON-1 (NCT01712490; less than 10% of the population aged ≥60 years). He concludes that specific randomized trials incorporating fitness assessments could improve outcomes for this patient population, with checkpoint inhibitors shown to be a promising treatment option to manage autoimmune adverse events.
