I'm happy they showed her hugging her family. Because people are so quick to assume that black people raise their voice they are threatening and unreasonable. But the reality is, that took every ounce of her to stay composed and share the truth. I hope this shows to people how black people just want a fucking fair chance, and for centuries only black people understood that.

I'm a white person that--until now--thought myself to be a relatively intelligent, decently-learned person that paid attention in history classes. Incidents like Tulsa and Rosewood were never mentioned, or even hinted at. I've heard of white mobs and race riots previously, back in the post-Civil War era, but not these, so...I looked them up. For those, like me, who don't know what Ms. Jones is referring to, the TLDR is this: Tulsa was quite literally bombed from above by private airplanes because that's where well-to-do black people lived, and Rosewood, in a _completely separate incident in another state,_ was burned out of existence by roaming white mobs from surrounding towns for Reasons. No one tried to rebuild/repopulate after it was burned to the ground. No one, in either incident, faced charges. In Tulsa, it took nearly 80 years for officials to even _launch an investigation_ into the event. No investigation was ever made for Rosewood. (Edit: Apparently there was an investigation into Rosewood. I misread. It only took 60 years instead of 80.) I'm disgusted. Viscerally, deeply _enraged_ that not only these things happened, that these things were so easily swept under the rug and forgotten about by white folks. White people in power, the school boards and the cops and the politicians, they don't talk about it, because it admits culpability, because it "causes racial tension." _Murdering a town full of black people causes racial tension._ Why the _fuck_ is this not being openly discussed? Why the fuck can't us white people look at the atrocities that our ancestors wrought and say, "That was wrong, we need to fundamentally change"? My words may mean nothing, but: That was wrong. We need to fundamentally change. The whole fucking system needs to fundamentally change. Our inaction is killing people. Has _already_ killed scores of people. I've been trying to see a way of societal reform beyond complete structural collapse since the 10th grade--twenty years ago--but at this stage...shit, maybe it really *should* burn to the ground. We've done nothing to earn it.

This woman is explaining what we all been saying for YEARS. I cry real tears everytime I see this WE ARE TIRED!! We did it the "right way" and we still can't win. I am in Minneapolis and I get anxious when I see police I get anxious seeing a group of white men or women. I cant breath is not just about getting choked out its also about getting choked out by this system. We didnt do anything but what ya'll asked of us DAMN WHAT MORE CAN WE DO!! I am an Irish man, and I see it every day in Spain how I am treated better than my brothers and sisters because they are dark skinned or they have a different faith, if this coronavirus has taught us anything it should be that we are all in this together.

I cry every time I watch this. She starts so calm, collected and cool-headed, but as she lays it all out I always start to feel angry at the injustice she's so eloquently explaining...and then she gets angry too and I really get it. It hits me like a punch in the stomach and then I'm just in bits from then on. This is so powerful!

Watched John Oliver bit and was taken a back emotionally the most when they close the video with Kimberly. she was on fire and instead of crying, i was so stunned and captivated by her every points and statements. I'm not American, not black and did not lived in the us. I did not know about Tulsa, heard about Rosewood but from what i recall, it was not given the proper significance. I would like to acknowledge you for identifying the 3 groups and their different roles in civil movement, commend you for the great analogy on monopoly in explaining what American economy is to a black American, and will continue to support every bit of your "... the game is fixed..." statement because thats the truth. The Monopoly metaphor needs to be taught in every American History class.

Why don't American Vietnamese loot and Chinese Americans loot here in America? Answer because they are better in the head and do their homework in school(they show up more often) and work hard and smart. Tulsa riot, Oklahoma - 1921. Rosewood massacre, Florida 1923. Important events for sure. About 100 years of many other important events have happened since then. Billions of people of all cultures have lived and died in the hundred years or so since. Many in much worse and more deadly conflicts than those that she mentioned, including a world war and many genocides that killed millions each. Just some perspective.

This builds beautifully. She starts almost quietly, calmly analyzing the reasons for people taking to the streets to protest police violence against people of color. And as her argument builds, so does the anger at the injustice - her voice gets louder and sharper. The substance of her case becomes so obvious that she's finally shouting "How can you win? How can you win? You can't win!" This is righteous. And Kimberly Jones is a very powerful voice. Right on.

I wish I learned about Tulsa and Rosewood in the 12 years of being in a institutionalized setting (school) sadly I did not learn about it till after I graduated. Im a white man. I grew up poor as hell wtih two heroin addicts for parents in a Hispanic community that exiled me. I know what it feels like to be hated for your skin. Once in the 6th grade i took a knife to my arm and proceeded to cut the "white" off my right amr in the middle of math class. As an adult i learned quickly that i would never be accepted into the white community because of my upbringing and my unwillingness to play the "game." I moved to Memphis and never fit in with the white populace nor the black. This never really hurt me. I was going to be me and never spread the hurt i felt. I was okay feeling at a disadvantage. Nonetheless, ive always gravitatd towards the other people who, like me, spread no hate and many of the biggest influences in my life are black. I never heard this side of your story told this way. Im in tears and im a grown ass man. I don't know how to fix this obvious problem. I don't pretend to know. I know what im gonna do to help. I will not let hate into my home and I will not allow my children to think that way. My best friend in Memphis is black and he's easily more loyal to me than anyone else in my local friend group. Nationally, the man who taught me the value of education; and thru that saved my life and pulled me out of poverty and off of drugs, he is a Hispanic man; i named my son after him. Despite this being how my life has gone, I feel in debt. I am so sorry for the hate and the evil that the generations of my kin believe me have caused. Im sorry that we have done this. I don't even want to be in the 'we'! But I am not going to try and deny what my blonde hair and blue eyes means. I honestly don't understand how yall managed to protest peacefully in the 60s when innocent blood coated the strees. I couldnt have maintained /remained peaceful. She's right. I didn’t know such cruel problems until this period. I am a Japanese, so I can’t perfectly understand what she said, but I figured out that I have to learn more about this.
