Had a solicitor come to our door and offer FREE solar panels, btw.. ignoring my "NO SOLICITORS" sign. Said some gov.program would pay for it. Then someone told me it was just a way to be more connected to the grid. Of course the would-be young salesman / canvasser started out with dropping a supposed neighbor's name, down the street, who had bought into it. OLD trick, like close-ended questions. Haven't seen any solar panels up on any roofs around here, yet. That was 3 weeks ago. We shall see! What d'ya think???

So many pitfalls If you don't own the home outright, your landlord or mortgage holder does and has absolute say. Depending on locale, all components must be UL Listed and installation checked by a qualified electrician and approved. If leasing company -Have Homeowners Insurance Agent and Mortgage Holder check them out -Probably kit form install. Get manufacturer of kit (or components) and contact manufacturer to verify that contractor is certified (proper training) -Look for penalty clauses in contract...you may not be able to sell your house...or worse. If they won't give you sample contract...RUN. --Most are aware of your exact tax credit and disreputable ones will inflate prices accordingly. Do your homework! A grid tied system will take 10-15 years for return on investment and you are no less susceptible to power outages. An off grid (immune to power outages) system..20-30 years or more due to additional battery expense. The true benefit is the peace of mind.
