Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. Interesting video thank you. My great grandmother left Las Palmas, and came to Puerto Rico and married a Puerto Rican. Many Puerto Ricans trace their heritage to the Canary islands.

I am descended from some Canary Islanders who came to Louisiana at the end of the 18th century and from some others who made it to San Antonio. Both Louisiana and Texas were part of Spain at the time. Visiting the Canary Islands have long been on my list of places to visit. I look forward to watching your videos on.

I am from these families too. My family went to Louisiana after the Alamo. Both my grandmother and grandfather are descended from this. The families went to Natchitoches and Opelousas, LA.

Hello Elliot, I’m an isleño from southern Louisiana in the US. I’m from a Canarian descendant community located just outside of the city of New Orleans to the east of it, in an area called St. Bernard Parish. We are a community of Canarian descendants known as “isleños”, that remained grouped and our ancestors arrived in Louisiana from 1778-1783 from the Canary Islands. I wonder if common Canary Islanders in Canarias are aware of our existence. We have a yearly fiesta where we invite singers and dancers from Canarias and several of our people have been to Canarias several times.

@@AdventureElliot I found your video by searching videos about the Canary Islands, I always search RU-vid about our island homeland. Yours was a wonderful video that I enjoyed very much, I watched both parts. You were very friendly and eager to speak to the locals and they they same to you which reminded me of my community, we are the same way and even look the same as them. I also noticed they have those mazes of high step neighborhoods up mountains similar to what is in Brazil. Very cool. I have never been to Canarias although it is my ancestral homeland and I am a technically a son of that soil. So did you investigate more of my community? Can I have your honest opinion of it? My opinion is that the Canary Islands are a unique place geographically and culturally… a mix of the Caribbean and Europe with a climate and landscapes that are one of a kind. The people are very friendly and the spanish is different than the peninsula. My Grandmother was from the Canary Islands. She migrated to Cuba in the late 1800's where she met and married a Spaniard from Galicia in Cuba. I'm from Puerto Rico, and that architecture is so reminiscent of Old San Juan. Don't know if you've been there. We have a large percentage of the population that indeed came from the Canary Islands, including my great grandfather.

Actually the population of Las palmas is around 380 000 people in the City and around 650 000 people in the metropolitan area. It’s ninth largest metropolitan area in Spain. I have been there few times and really enjoyed it 😎🤙🏽🌞 La isleta is one of my favourites !

Two-thirds of the US territories were part of the Spanish empire. The Spanish Luisiana was populated by many people of the canary islands. New Iberia for example was one of the main settlements. The Spanish not the French really create what today is New Orleans for example, there's lot of history, enjoy! In the Plaza Santo Domingo, the white house had an amazing example of “balcón canario”. It’s the only house in the plaza that hasn’t been sold to the town hall and it still belongs and it’s used by its original family. My family. It’s a very very old canarian house. I’m thankful i could get to see it in the video tho 😊 if you ever stay in the island for the holy week, specially at least the Sunday right before the holy week, you’d see a very beautiful procesión coming out of the Santo Domingo church that goes all the way to the cathedral! thank u for the video!

Suerte 👍👍👍. Vegueta es un lugar muy bonito pero no te vayas sin visitar a Teror San Mateo tafira Santa Brígida Tejeda. Centro comercial El mirador y las terrazas tienen una buena vista al mar y los barcos en la marina de la venida marítima y lo más importante la montaña de bandama para ver a toda la isla desde arriba. Y la cumbre también bien venido mi niño en gran canaria. 👍👍👍

Como siempre Eliot un rato muy agradable. Como siempre te cuento cosas de la historia, te contaré que ahí en las Canarias, en 1797 el famoso almirante Nelson, se dejó el brazo en un intento de invasión de Tenerife al mando de una escuadra que fue derrotada. En el Museo provincial de Tenerife, están expuestas las banderas inglesas capturadas al vencedor de Trafalgar. Un abrazo grande y mi agradecimiento por tus entretenidos vídeos.

Así es, cuando pasees por el barrio de Vegueta creerás que andas por la Sanse o por la calle Sol y en la Plaza de Santo Domingo como si fuera la Plaza del Cristo. Realmente la 8 isla es Puerto Rico. ❤🇵🇷❤🇮🇨

You forgot to post the Puertorican flag. My great grand mother came from La Gran Canaria to Puerto Rico. There were thousands of Canarios that inmigrated here.

Interesting Fact, researchers have recently been finding guanche dna(Original canary islanders) in the modern populations of the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico. No coincidence the 3 Latin American countries that received some of the largest Canarian migration over the past 400 years

Soy de Honduras y te puedo asegurar que la mayoría de las ciudades en mi país tienen las estructuras españolas. Haciendo ese recorrido en España, es como si anduvieses en Honduras(hablando estructuralmente). Su parque central, catedrales, casas y calles coloniales.

Hola, soy de canarias, el carácter de la gente es más parecido al de latino america, es un mix entre lo europeo y latino, y nosotros cuando viajamos al extranjero nos referimos más como “soy de las islas Canarias” Por delante de somos de “España” dado que la gente pensaría que soy de Madrid Sevilla o algo así y canarias está a 1.000km del continente europeo, saludos

Bonito video Elliot😀 Has visto que es cierto lo de los Canarios a América?. Texas, la Luisana , Caribe , Venezuela, etc. La mejor Cerveza, tropical. Jajaja. Canarias no tenía la figura de Virreynato. Eran islas añadidas a la soberanía del Reino de Castilla al principio. El Imperio era Castilla. Como el Imperio era Inglaterra no el Reino Unido.

Certainly the island isn’t overlooked for tourism but is very well known among world travelers. However, the history between the Canary Islands and the Americas is vastly overlooked. Canary Islanders played a huge role in the development of several countries in north and South America.

los canarios fueron enviados allí no por emigrantes sino por el Tributo de Sangre. España nos permitió exportar 100 Tm de mercancía a cambio de enviar 25 familias de a 5 a territorios desiertos donde el Rey necesitaba frenar el avance de franceses, ingleses o portugueses.

Guys, native Canarias was called Guanches and they came from North Africa, later on, when Spanish sailors came to Canarias native population disappear, so its not fair to say that islanders are somewhat special, they just Spanish people :)
