Cane sugar has been the sweetener of choice for over 2,000 years. It is used in all types of foods due to its versatility. It enhances flavor, aroma, texture and browning. It also helps retain moisture and preserve freshness.
In this How Sugar is Made video, we explain how different types of sugar are created at various steps in this manufacturing process. Turbinado Sugar has only been partially refined and only the surface molasses has been washed off. Brown sugar contains some of the surface molasses syrup, which imparts a characteristic molasses flavor. White, granulated sugar is the last step in the manufacturing process.

For those of you who never heard of it, there's a famous sweet in Brazil called 'rapadura' which is a solid block version of that liquid extracted from the sugar cane, and there's a more refined version of it called 'merendê' which is awesome as well. There's also an alcoholic beverage made out of sugar cane called 'cachaça' which is widely appreciated too.

Washing of sugar cane Cutting into shreds Flattened with rollers Separator to remove fibres, collect only juice Juice goes to evaporator to boil off excess water leaving syrup Add sugar crystals into syrup to create more sugar crystals Centrifuge to remove even more liquid Goes to granulator where it is purified, decolourised, recrystallised Goes through several screens/filters to remove impurities and to ensure all crystals are the same size

Smedley Butler Basic chemistry. Crystals will form on their own, but adding existing crystals will jumpstart the process making it much more efficient.

You dont NEED sugar, any solid object will do to start the crystallization. But i personally prefer not to eat lead pellets in sugar

Know what you're buying in the store. If the package says, "Sugar, Table Sugar, Granulated Sugar" it is likely GMO sugar beets. "Cane Sugar" is obviously from cane. I only use organic cane. :o)

I grew up in Puerto Rico, which was once a hotbed of sugarcane production. This video makes it all seem so easy, but then you see the old-timey photos of peoples grandparents chopping down miles of sugarcane for scrip... Not an indictment against anyone who eats sugar, btw. Its history.

Anything in moderation is safe, and anything in extreme excess is deadly. Even water becomes deadly if you drink a gallon in an hour. As long as you're not stuffing spoons of sugar in you mouth, it is safe. Also, you need carbohydrates (sugar) to survive. So, if you eat wisely, sugar won't harm anyone.

No where they are using bones... actually some sort of lime is used in processing of sugar.... every where. In ancient times they used to consume the bones to convert in lime....but now they are using more advanced technologies...
