One thing I love about this show is the timelessness, it doesn’t make itself a product of its time since Captain America is always one, and makes his adapting to the new world include his reaction to the “new technology” Also Spider-Man/Captain America dynamic ftw

Reminds me of a book written by Dr. Douglas Gillette, "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes" Steve Rogers just has a massively healthy connection with his masculine identity. King: Not just about leadership, to exude the kingly energy is to bring out the very best attributes of those around them Warrior: Not about violence, the warrior is one who declares that they are responsible for everything around them, to be the agent of change Magician: this term describes an inductee into gatekeepers of knowledge. This one has the most tentative connection to the Captain but one could argue his vintage know how allows for unique problem solving techniques Lover: Not about romance, being the lover is about expression of emotional connection. A man defined by his found family and will risk his life to save the Winter Soldier from mind control definitely fits this archetype

@@kingsadvisor18 yes, I know. This branch of literary and cultural analysis, however, is deeply inspired by Jung's works, especially when it comes to archetypes and the "shared unconscious". I honestly believe that they did Captain America the best in Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Even though he is out of time, he still fights the good fight and does his best to adjust to his situation. I also like the messeges coming from him in the show. He knew that despite how things change in the modern world, people depending on technology a lot more, the best way to live in life is to have balance. Sometimes, depending on technology too much can lead to some problems, so sometimes the old ways are better. And because of those messeges, I live by them in real life. Thank you Captain America from Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

I think the Emh is not emh without Captain America (Ignoring that he is a vital member in the comic), his way of acting and thinking defines who he is, and although it is ironic, he is good at speaking. Although he tells spider man that actions are important, his speeches are a very important part of him, motivating the Hulk, spiderman, and making it clear to the Skrulls how their stay will be. On the other hand, their actions involve taking leadership even if the team disagrees, not leaving their peers behind, and inspiring all the people who can to be better. I think something that I never liked too much is the uncertainty of Captain America's leadership, since sometimes Iron Man was the leader as well, and that was rarely talked about. But ultimately, I have a profile picture for something. Ps i have an interesting theory about baron zemo

About the Yost-verse connecting Wolverine & the X-men with Avengers: EMH, I personally think a Captain America solo cartoon could rectify the tone difference. I personally believe that the US government keeps the oppression of Mutants a secret (much like in the real world shaky stuff like project mockingbird and the Tuskegee experiments were secret for decades). The general public has a negative attitude to mutants but I doubt the average American in this universe knows about how bad it is in the Weapon X testing facilities. I imagine that either the government desperately wants Cap in the dark about the mutant plight or some plonker would think he'd be gung-ho for it, either way this Cap would definitely have a bone to pick with the MRD once he knows what they're really about. A Captain America solo show would have a plot about this for sure with a Wolverine team up.

My thought was that the three shows probably have different timelines relative to each other, and Wolverine and the X-Men takes place before the Avengers assemble, back when they were each doing their own thing, and possibly before some of their origins. Cap would still be stuck in the ice, Hank would still be hyper-focused on science and therapy in the Big House (where he wouldn’t have access to mutants), Tony would either be solo-heroing or still a weapons-mongering billionaire, Hulk would be on the run (which we actually see in the series once, btw), and Thor would still be in Asgard.

EMH made me love Steve Rogers. He lost everything and lives in a world he does not recognise. But like he told Spider-man, he will keep fighting the good fight. Because that is the right thing to do. True at first he had trouble adjusting to the future but by the end of the series I feel he was slowly getting use to it.

I love this. Also there is a way that EMH could be connected to WATX without it being dark. WATX could likely take place before EMH. We see no events from either show referenced in each other to my knowledge. Hulk’s appearance in WATX could be early Hulk and Fury’s reverend to the MRD could be made better if the MRD just became SHIELD but specializing in mutant criminals instead of attacking all mutants. But that’s just my take on it.

I love how the roles sort of shift as well between Cap and Ironman in this show. Season 1 was very much Ironman at the center and Cap as the close second. Season 2 really puts Cap as the protagonist and Ironman as the main supporting character. I think it sort of an interesting indirect statement of how much more Captain America matters as time moves forward. Ironman even points that out in Season 2 Episode 20 where he wants him to be the official leader. A lot of that season shows Cap preservering through all the distrust of the people and the fractured Avengers team itself due to the Skrulls really taking a toll on their morale as a team and as individuals. Cap really becomes the rock and beating heart for the team. Season 1 was very much building him up to be that as he learns to adjust in many episodes of that season. Faith, Hope, and Compassion drives him completely throughout this show. I fundamentally disagree where his character ended up in Endgame. He should not be holding on to the past in such a detrimental way. EMH Steve would not have gone back his lover and leave everyone else he's made valuable connections with. He would not leave Tony, Hulk, Wasp, Vision, Bucky, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and Spiderman. All are characters he's made the greatest connections with I feel. He embraces them as his new family so he becomes a man orientated forward not backwards.

My own with MCU Captain America is that they thought a satisfying end to his story was just sending him back in time to live his life with Peggy Carter. To me, that kind of an ending for his character just undermines all of the work put in to having him learn to adapt to a modern day. To me his character arc was supposed to focus on working to adapt to the modern day and move on from the past that he came from while still holding onto his ideals. At first, it looks like that wise with the MCU was going for, but then they just dropped it at the end to say that he goes back to the 1940s and they pretend like that why is the natural trajectory of his character arc. So dissatisfying.

I feel his adjustment also has a part of coming back to his world being gone. The coma victims come back to their world but different. They see where they used to have attachments and they see their world but can't interact with it as well. For Cap it's gone. There is nothing from his old life to hold onto and drive him crazy. Great video. I always liked when his "man out of time" quality came through. In the MCU when he didn't get a reference or when he was thrilled he did. It was something as a kid when reading to think about someone having missed almost a quarter century. The MCU had missed out on over half a century. I know they didnt have much time with him at just 2hr every few years to show him, but it would've been nice to see it shown still being an ongoing situation for him. I mean not only did he come from a world were black & white TV's were the rare, advanced tech, but where social morals were so different, but all if his friends, idols, fav entertainers and personal role models were long dead and (worse) forgotten. They don't even have a term for that type of midlife crisis.

Speaking of Wolverine, his age isn't fully known, mostly because of continuity changes and what writers think will make things interesting, we even see flashbacks of him with Captain America in some X-Men series, including Wolverine and the X-Men and X-Men Evolution, and sometimes it's even joked that he's a relic just like Captain America, other times the two are referred to as artifacts of bygone eras, and I think those jabs at them, either with malice from villains or in jest from friends and allies, actually dive into something meaningful in a way. Maybe a future video can be about Captain America, Wolverine, and other heroes that seem to be from prior eras can show the positive side of what is meant to be an insult or joke about their actual age. A hero that predates a lot of modern heroes, but really doesn't get a whole lot of attention today, The Phantom, a figure that actually shaped the development of the comicbook industry but the big changes he brought were so subtle that very few actually noticed them. And I think that's important, and ironically also iconically the Phantom. In many ways, the Phantom is a template for several heroes that followed, Batman and Captain America included. And I find it amazing that characters can have threads connecting them to other characters that most of us probably aren't even aware of. The Phantom was the first masked hero to have white where his eyes were supposed to be, a trend that was followed up with Batman, Spider-Man, the Flash, and even Black Panther. The Phantom is this mysterious figure that is really just an ordinary person that has trained themself to the physical and mental peak of what it is possible to be a human, just like Batman. And despite all this, the Phantom hasn't enjoyed the longterm commercial success those characters that took inspiration from he did. He got live-action movie in the 1990s, was in the animated series Defenders of the Earth in the 1980s (which really didn't do a good job with his character to begin with), and the cult classic Phantom 2040 animated series are really all he got. And the thing is, either they are extremely niche, like the movie from the 1990s and the 2040 animated series, or just languish mostly forgotten because how the property was handled and changes that came after the project, like Defenders of the Earth. But here's the thing, the Phantom is structured in such a way that they can be dropped into almost any time period fit right in. So yeah, there's a character you can have fun with in a future video. And I think you might find some surprises looking through the Phantom's publication history.

Something to point out that's different with Cap and the coma patients/POWs is that he was in ice, completely unconscious and frozen in time. Coma patients generally retain some form of consciousness or their bodies are at least doing stuff to keep them alive, and POWs are quite obvious. Cap doesn't have the same feeling of emptiness, BUT he still knows there was a pretty hefty gap. But for him and him suddenly waking up like he did, to him not a moment passed.

If they ever did a Civil War storyline (Which is never), it probably would involve having Cap with SHIELD & the US Government, and Iron Man, along with the likes of Wasp, against them. To further add to this, it was pretty clear in the pilot episode & in episode 8 that Tony openly expressed dislike for SHIELD's involvement with superheroes, with how they were clearly into (for lack of a better term), "weaponizing them", having their own supersoldiers. On Cap's side of the table, in the Wonder Man episode, he meets with Nick Fury, and after having a pep-talk with the SHIELD director, the latter offers him his & SHIELD's help, which he expresses with thanks and consideration. To add to that, in the Annihilus episode, Steve declared that all he'll appeal to the imprisoned villains when their trial comes. Following this potential plot point (in my eyes), the supervillains who are granted amnesty would be sought out by SHIELD and the US Government, creating the Superhero Registration Act to induct them in as their own metahuman fighting force, probably with Ross and Baron Zemo at the helm, forming the Thunderbolts. (As to why Cap is on the side of the government... uh, well, I just think that he'd still be convinced that the modern US Government is still the same as the one he fought for in WW2. It'd probably take a while before he eventually realizes this, basically a misguided soldier y'know. Feel free to improve, to anyone who's reading this.)

Rly cool, love this content since- One Villainous Moment project. I have a question. Do you plan on talking about Fantastic Four: Worlds Greatest Heroes? I think that show is forgotten by injustice. Without Fantastic Four- in general there would be no Marvel as we know it. And the show has big tie ins with Yost Verse.

Thanks for sticking with the channel! I spoke very briefly about WGH in my Yostverse video, but I don’t have any immediate plans for the show for the time being. I expect this will change, though - while I do have a bit of a backlog of video ideas already in progress, I think you could expect some proper FF:WGH content in the next couple of months. Sorry i haven’t done any sooner!

Thing is, as the marvel franchise continues, some heroes can be re-actualised. For heroes like ironman, put afghanistan instead of vietnam. Soon, put syria instead of afghanistan. For heroes like spiderman, you dont even have strong ties to historical events. But Cap is 100% tied to ww2. This means he's sleeping for more and more decades with each iteration. The world ever stranger. First time he was resurected, it was about 20 years after he went in ice. Still a lot, but way less than now.

I think comparing a fictional character to real life coma survivors or prisoners of war is kinda tasteless but at least it really brings our attention to how much they suffer and how hard life can be bit how they persevere nonetheless.

Just rewatched the Cap microsode, and it raised a big question about the set up of this universe. Something that has bugged me since I first saw it all those years ago. Did the nazis exist in EMH continuity? In the into to this episode, the news cast refers to the enemy power that the allies are fighting as "Hydra." Zemo and the Red Skull are stated to be the leaders of this power. Never are the Nazis referenced. Cap accuses the Skull of doing Zemo's dirty work, not Adolf Hitlers as he did in the comics. So does that mean that Zemo takes the place of Hitler in this timeline? Did he do all of the things that hitler did. If so, then why wasn't he publicly executed in Israel like all of the real members of the high command? It would also make watching him as a villain much less enjoyable. Later, in the Hydra vs AIM one with the cosmic cube, Strucker's wish isn't for germany to win the war, but for Hydra to have won. So in this universe, the Nazis never came to power and instead a science cult of green wearing geeks came to power? Or did Hydra just lead a successful coup?
@PillarofGarbage
@PillarofGarbage 2 года назад
I may be misremembering, but I think at one point the creators said they wanted the Nazis to be shown to exist in-universe but it was either them or guns according to the network, and they were more bothered about having real guns. (IIRC)

I have one small opinion or maybe you could consider it a criticism, You related the experiences of Captain America to returning POWs. I want to mention one small difference that is significantly different, cap came back but kept his youth. Meanwhile imagine spending 12 years doing nothing but getting tortured. By the time you come back you, yes have go deal with that time thing but your now older but having gained nothing significant from that age, no relationship, no nothing, no money, everyone has moved on without you.

The scene where Cap is in the quintet and says “Back in my day we didn’t call this flying.” “What did you call it?” Cap: “Science fiction.” This has always stuck with me. The jarring reminder that all we (and they, the Avengers) know that is so familiar that it’s ignored and regarded as normal was utterly beyond all comprehension in Steve’s time. It’s a pretty hard gut punch.

I often wonder, Cap fought the nazis, he died fighting the nazis, so the question is raised, would Captain America be racist or at the very least unhappy around asians, russians, Italians, and Germans?
@PillarofGarbage
@PillarofGarbage 2 года назад
I think he’d be fine. Captain America always reflected the American ideal more than the American reality, and the American ideal is in large part founded upon immigration and mixing of cultures. I think he’d recognise that many of the people he fought in the war weren’t evil, but just conscripts - so he could easily let go of that baggage.
