He was blessed to have that role as Carlton. He has a terrific career now, hosting a multitude of shows, including America's Funniest Videos and Dancing with the Stars. He might think that he would have had an illustrious career as an actor, but I do not. He is all that he was meant to be, and he is doing more than fine.

Lets not forget Alfonso been around longer then Fresh Prince days.. He had his own staring movie in the 80s. Plus the micheal jackson pepsi commercial fame. Silver Spoons and more.Hes a certified Legend for sure..

I could never understand why adults refuse to see the difference between a character and an actor. I can understand children and teenagers doing this. However Sister Sister came on when I was a child, then The Game came on when I became an adult. When I look at The Game, I see Tia Mowry playing a character name Melanie. When I look back at SS I see her playing Tia. Actors and actresses are supposed to play different people, so I don’t understand how we just want that one particular person to be associated with the same character forever. I forgot about Fresh Prince when I looked at Will Smith in Ali or The Pursuit of Happiness. People are so weird.

His character “Maxwell Stanton” on “In the House” with LL Cool J and Kim Wayans always made it seem like that’s what Carlton would be like in the corporate world. He played both characters well 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿

Omari Hardiwick kinda going through the same thing. He played GHOST on Power, and even years after he’s been off the franchise, people still talk about how iconic his role was, and, the fans always get his name on Twitter trending in hopes that he’ll come back on the show lol. Even when he’s out in public people call him that by “Ghost” it’s gift and a curse I guess, cause he gets major props for his performance however he hasn’t been in anything major since he left the show.

Alphonso has a VERY long track record in Hollywood . He was on many tv shows and hosted quite a few game shows so,as long as he can get work he'll be alright. He's very talented.

It’s odd because Michael J. Fox never said that playing Alex P. Keaton on “Family Ties” hurt his acting career. Carlton Banks was basically the black Alex P. Keaton.

I think it’s really a problem for the fans who can’t move on. If fans have just a narrow image of an actor for playing ONE role they’re never gonna be able to move on. Alfonso is not the first or last actor to be typecast. Bob Denver (Gilligan), Dustin Diamond (Screech), Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster), Fred Berry (Rerun), Jimmie Walker (JJ) all were type cast.

The more memorable and unique the chatacter is, the greater the likelihood of being typecast. Jason Momoa missed out on roles for a good while because people actually thought he couldn't speak English because of his epic portrayal as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones.

The role of Carlton Banks on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air did not ruin Alfonso Ribeiro's career in my opinion. The show was popular and the cast including Alfonso made a lot of money for many years. Some of the things outside of the show ruined Alfonso's career such as the public statements he has made.
