The question here is, will Srilanka allow its territory to be used(military) against other countries? Because that will make them a legitimate target. Hambantota port channel only allows one ship to enter or exit at a given time so it will be very difficult for China to turn it into some kind of military naval base even if they want, the question is the same will Sri Lanka allow it? To counter the Chinese threat in IOR, India should fast-track military infrastructure development in the Andaman. There is no need for 3rd aircraft carrier instead turn Andaman into an unsinkable carrier for the Indian navy and India.

The question is, does Sri Lanka have any leverage on China. With the ever expanding size of Chinese Navy, i don't think there is any need to convert Hambantota into a naval base. Using Hambantota simply for electronic surveillance on mainland India is more than sufficient.

@@surabhikashyap241 It has happened in the past, the Chinese docked their submarine in Sri Lanka in Oct 2014, and India didn't like the move. Chinese again asked Sri Lanka in 2017 to let its submarine be docked in Srilanka. Sri Lanka "rejected" that request. And a surveillance ship in the event of a conflict that is too that close to the Indian border is a sitting duck. It's not about the Sri Lankan leverage over the Chinese but question is the same, does Sri Lanka has an appetite to get embroiled in conflict and become a launch pad? If India wants to regulate Chinese movement in the IOR then the right place is Andaman, not Hambantota.

They did shoo away Chinese Navy ships in 2014 because at that time , china didn't own the port. But now China owns 100% of the port for 99 years. China can do pretty much anything on the port without informing Sri Lanka.

Just think about it, isn't it amazing that all our neighbours were entrapped by China due to its "EXTRAORDINARY HUGE FAVOUR POLICY" but NOT INDIA? I dont think the ship was hacked, but sri lanka definitely brought some official order to the chinese to switch off their surveillance. See Sri Lanka is now a slave to China because of their past decisions and now officially their hands are bound. Also they cannot afford to antagonise India as we are their first source of help, so I think ordering Chin to switch off when in Sri Lanka's borders was the middle path, such that China and India are satisfied to a small degree. Now whether chin actully switched it off or not is a completely different matter.

I am Sri Lanakn. U forgot to mention that first Sri Lanka did not allow this chinese ship to dock. But two or three days ago SL🇱🇰 allowed that ship to dock in Hambantota. I think there are few reasons. One is that SL wants to get an IMF bailout, for that SL have to reschedule its debt to China. First China refused and suggested to give another loan, and now SL🇱🇰 is trying again. And SL said that they will not allow the ship to monitor anything while it is in Hambantota. #FreeTaiwan

Due to bad economic policies of Rajapaksa family, Sri Lanka lost the sovereignty leverage to China. With all due respect, I don't think for the next 99 years Sri Lanka can do much against China on Hambantota. For the Chinese, the main goal was strategic when they entered Sri Lanka and they achieved that goal. India is also partly to blame because our shortsighted domestic politics created space for China.

Our political leaders wasted so much time and potential by not pushing economic development at a faster rate that would made sure that the power differential remained balanced. I wouldn't be surprised if slowly nations in Indo-Pacific warms up to NATO like security arrangement in the region to counter Chinese naval presence which is already the biggest.

Sri Lanka is a nation that is caught in Chinese debt trap from which it is neither able to extricate itself nor is it able to stop its further falling into economic crisis. It is using India to prevent its further fall while it is trying to please China against India to gain time to get loan from the IMF to pay China back. With the Chinese spy ship in Sri Lanka, there is always more to it than meets the eye. More than feeling relieved that they have left Hambantota, India should wonder what they have left behind to snoop, hear and track. The Chinese create tension in one region while they nibble away at another. Hence India should have their fingers crossed if they have understood Chinese war wisdom. As for the Sri Lankans they have been bought and are parroting what the Chinese have asked them to say to calm India. Idiocy comes in all hues and colours.

Hi Ganesh, You make wonderful and very thought provoking content, which is quite rare nowadays to expect from Indian youtubers, but I wish to see more content on business side, geo-politics is a good option to hold people’s attention as everyone wants to see how their country is superior or at par with others but I personally believe geo-politics doesn’t hold much importance in our day to day life, geo-political issue are not important for ordinary people like me, we have to look at how we as a person can succeed and build our nation strong internally. This is not known in the popular media but the Sri Lankans asked for India to intervene and resist the Spy ship event but the Indian government turned a blind eye. But the ship was delayed it's docking time by quiet a few days. Idk who exactly caused this delay it could either be India or Sri Lanka, I'm not sure.

Well it's classified. But I'm sure they are trying out their strategies. Soon will come to know. Just like in Nepal how Oli govt collapsed. But I think regime change won't do anything. Internal instability is actually a boon. Since the Chinese would need to invest much more to safeguard their investments. We can empower the rebels in Sri lanka just like we are doing with the separatists in Pakistan. And we are seeing the results where china is asking Pakistan to deploy their army for safeguarding their investments. It's the same strategy that Taliban used to bleed the US and their nation building experiments.
