How Clean Are Soft Serve Ice Cream Machines? 

McDonald’s ice cream machine has been real quiet since this dropped

Imagine owning a cáfe or something and you just walk out to take a break and see the whole Inside Edition crew running at you

The guy knew exactly where to go and how to tell when the machines should be cleaned… that’s a great sign honestly that’s the exact thing I’d want to hear if I questioned the cleanliness of a place.

I worked at a froyo shop with these machines. We used to run hot water and cleaner through the machine at least 3 times every night, until the water runs clear. This was part of our main closing duty, so it really never got missed. It wasn’t that hard though, so the fact that this doesn’t get done at other places is gross

My first job at 16 was at a TCBY, the frozen yogurt place. The owner and manager were super nice and they had top notch standards. At closing every single night the store was cleaned, mopped, sanitized. Plus all 4 machines were drained and broken apart and cleaned and sanitized. It actually made me proud to work there cause I knew we were doing right by everyone.

No wonder McDonald's always says their soft serve icecream machine is broken

I actually had a similar experience where I had gotten a soft serve ice cream and it had tasted very different than normal and had a strong chemical taste to it so i returned it and reported it to the owners where they had refunded me with a new one it still tasted unpleasant and so I ended up tossing it. Later I had found out that the ice cream machine wasn’t properly clean and the bleach for it had mixed with the cream and caused a huge distraction away from the business due to the many other people that had the same issue there before. Cleaning is important but u must also make sure it is cleaned properly or does little to nothing.

Lmao I work at Menchie’s and I can tell you each definitely machine has its own set day of the week to be cleaned. We usually clean each machine once a week

Over where my mom works. My moms friend cleans the ice cream machine every day after 7:00pm and it's called *Hunts" It's in Park Hills Missouri. I'm one of the family members in Hunts and I'm only 14, my brother is 10, and my mom is almost 40. It's good and I love how they always make connections with some customers

My mom is a training manager at McDonald’s and I showed her the drip tray and she screamed saying nothing should ever look like that. Also when McDonald’s’s says their ice cream machine is broken it is not usually broken in fact it take 2 hours to clean it and they clean it usually one or twice a day so stuff like this should never happen.

I remember when ice cream was soft from the place called Zinga and then they now it’s called Yobe. It’s a frozen yogurt shop in Gainesville VA. But then in late 2021, the yogurt shop is out of business ever since the manager named, Mr. Clayton has been retired. I will always remember that place about years ago. Boy, a lot has changed as the years went bye.

Ok for the McDonalds "Drip Tray". It's called a drip tray for a reason. It collects any drips until it is cleaned. It never touches any of the ice cream. It's like the inside of a vacuum.

I worked at a DQ in interior BC. We took all the machines apart and cleaned everything. You think that’s bad, I’ve worked in the hotel industry for many men at years. I was a housekeeping manager for 5 years. Of all the things in a hotel room, don’t trust any glass cups or mugs etc. Most room attendants do not use soap. You would be lucky if they washed anything in hot water even. When I would check rooms, I would find many dirty glasses. When I helped in rooms, I would pile the dishes in the sink and put soap and hot water on them to MAKE them wash them properly.

I used to work in an icecream shop that my family ran, when we originally took over the old owner completely abandoned the machines without cleaning them out. We worked days to remove the spoiled icecream residue from the machine and took it apart completely, making sure to sanitize everything. At the end of every night it was a part of our routine to completely wash down the machinery. I wouldnt have eaten the icecream if I wasnt sure that the machines were properly cleaned.

I have stayed away from Dairy Queen for about 10 years until 2 days ago here in small town Ontario. Had stomach issues consistently years ago with the icecream. Left me thinking lactose intolerant. Revisted as stated recently to test my tolerance....ZERO ISSUES/PAIN. This video most likely I.D.'d the culprit back then. The blind trust we distribute at times is scary. I missed you Blizzard.

I’m actually quite happy for the last footage cos it shows that the owner is concerned about the hygiene, the health of his consumers/customers and he carefully explains the way they’re cleaned.

If you're ordering food from a restaurant or fast food place, wherever, the food you receive is likely contaminated in some way. I'm a manager at a pizza hut, and if I am ever sick, even deathly ill, I will be threatened to be fired if I don't show up to work. So there's been days where I'll be throwing up in the back alongside diarrhea and then proceeding to touch and handle food otherwise I would lose my job.

We used a special sanitzer in the water every night at Mcdonald's. the machine was broken down every night in fact it was a skill learned and trained. one or 2 a week is not enough. That back in the 80s when things were half way right

This is why I like scooped ice cream.
