Look even if you do not have a can recycling area near where you live at least throw the cans away. There is no recycling facilities where I live but I never keep empty tins, bottles or jars, I throw them in the bin but it worries me though because it ends up in landfill.

Poor dogs. Keeping them in such condition is animal cruelty.

Some people are just like this,i had a relitive who was quite happy to live in a hovel,but was equally happy to let you clean up for them then just let it go right back to a pig sty until you cleaned it for them again.
