Gino Reda is joined by TSN Hockey insider, Darren Dreger, to discuss the latest on the interview process for the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the handful of other teams in the league in search of a new head coach.
As long as Steve Ott comes over as well with Craig Berube. That's my idea of a solid change behind the bench. Steve Ott has been an assistant coach now in St. Louis for many years and he's quietly become a key piece with regards to the player/coaching dynamic. Steve had an awesome career in Dallas and even lead the Sabres into a brief but meaningful change as captain when Ted Nolan and Pat LaFontaine had the plan to bring a solid and respectable compete level back to the organization again. The Leafs just simply lack "that" compete level and killer instinct to get them over the hump in the playoffs and Steve Ott knows how to get this message to the players for Craig Berube. Berube defines killer instinct; something the Leafs have arguably only had under the leadership of Pat Quinn and Pat Burns.
My top 10 choices: 01. Joel Quenneville (have to get Bettman to let him back in the league first) 02. Rod Brind'Amour 03. Claude Julien 04. Gerard Gallant 05. Craig Berube 06. Todd McLellan 07. Jay Pandolfo (Boston College) 08. Sergei Fedorov (KHL) 09. Todd Nelson (AHL) 10. Steve Smith (AHL)
Who the Buds hire as coach isn’t what I’m concerned with,it’s the line up that concerns me.And who is still part of upper management despite insisting on keeping the core 4 forward group intact-Brendan Shanahan. When Pelley stated that Brendan Shanahan was a champion,I knew that “change was coming” was just window dressing.
Berube's record, both regular season and playoffs, since winning the Cup isn't particularly impressive, to be honest. Any chance that that Cup run was more a series of fortunate events rather than stellar coaching?
@@douglassun8456 you may be right. I am very unfamiliar with the Comings and going’s of the players in St. Louis. I’m just looking at the record is all.
Doesn’t hurt to give him a three year deal, if it’s not working after two years you can replace him, I’d prefer a hard nose coach who puts an end to the purse wearing
Much overlooked is a coach's ability to rejuvenate careers. Bruce Boudreau is responsible for Brock Boeser's return to stardom in Vancouver. He could do the same for Tavares. And the entire core 4 in a playoff environment.
He is taking his ball and going home. Like get out of the city Marner - we don't need you. You could become a legend here by saying..... I will take 8mil for 8 years so we can build a winner. No, you want money you greedy piece of........ !@%^!@$
It was jealousy. The 'cardboard cutouts' apparently moved more dynamically and purposely during the playoffs. They are also tougher, too, which really ticked him off🤣!
How do NHL Teams be so quick with coaches being kicked out often when it’s the players who are to blame for losing? Winning a Stanley cup is not easy for any team and to call out the coach is easier than calling out the players. Tired of MLSE axing good coaches and never putting the onus on the players who are overpaid and underachieve.
The Leafs aren’t going to lose an FA coach to NJ or Winnipeg. The allure of the big stage, the big $$ - the Leafs will get their guy, so long as he currently is available.
@@alexleblanc5926maybe for a few days, then they kill it. Q would be worth it. When he left Chicago and went to Florida, things were going great for that team. And then the meeting with Bettman... And Florida wasn't the same team moving on the up.
They are probably lobbying the NHL to get Quenville reinstated. If that doesnt happen they will announce Berube ...thats why nothing is being announced.
Trade Proposal A) Marner and Reilly for Dobson and Horbvat B) Marner,Reilly Tavares for Malkin & Karlson C) Marner and Reilly for Werenski, Marchenko, Sillinger a 1st and and 2 rounder
Isles would be crazy to trade Dobson. The Pens trade doesn't really help the Leafs much, they get older and I think they need to allocate that money more effectively to me this isn't the direction they should go if they're trading those pieces. The Columbus one makes the most sense form the Leafs perspective, I just don't see them trading Marner and Reilly together. Not sure where the value is at with that one. The mock trade I like the most is something around Marner to the Blues for Parayko and Buchnevich, proabbly be some other smaller pieces switching hands as well.
@@alexleblanc5926 in the pens trade, the age Is actually not much different then now and they get cap space BUT I love that Blues trade proposal. LOVE IT!!!
Doesn't matter who they hire if they're just gonna let the players dictate to him. Much like your politics, you have a spoiled child problem in the East. Reap what you sow TO.
