True story here . The summer of 1975 me and my sister spent a Sunday afternoon with Davy , Clifford and Bobby and one of Bobby's mechanic working on Bobby's car . I remember being scared of the impact wrench when first getting there and Bobby chased me around the shop for a bit. I am 54 now will never forget it.😊

I was a huge Davey fan when I was a kid. Man I was crushed when he passed.

Having listened to 1000’s of podcasts I am very impressed how far Jr’s interviewing skills have come. He has transcended beyond just being an athlete and a personality into an impressive broadcaster and journalist.

I kinda went into fan shock as a kid being a Davey fan, he was a hero, still a hero. When we were kids we thought heros never passed. RIP Davey.

This man is 62 years old. Talk about good genes. I loved Davey Allison. After all of the horrific crashes he had and walked away, to hear that he died in a helicopter wreck was just crazy. I couldn't believe it.

Born & raised in Alabama and Davey was my guy. I was 13 when he passed and wept for days. Have gotten to meet Bobby and Donnie multiple times over the years and they are both just the most down to Earth people you could imagine. Typically, you will find them in the infield (along with Liz Allison) signing autographs, taking pictures, or selling some cool memorabilia at almost every Talladega race. I honestly had no idea that Hut married Donnie's daughter. Not sure how I missed that one. Davey was a special driver, and special person. I tear up just thinking about it. Every time i go to the museum at Dega and see his empty fire suit hanging on the wall, I cry. It is amazing how attached we can get to people we have never met. Can never forget Davey's smile.

I was in the crew of the last car to qualify for the 1987 Daytona 500 (Mark Stahl). It was Davey's first race and he had the fastest car in the field and was running everybody down. Would've been an easy win without early trouble. What a talent and was unstoppable with Robert Yates power.

I was a huge Davey fan, such a tragic loss. I still think the White/black/red/gold #28 Thunderbird during his rookie year is the best-looking paintjob ever. Great interview.

I have a signed picture of the 28 car from Davey. He and Mark Martin were at Ford Headquarters in Dearborn MI prior to racing at MIS just before his death. He was my favorite driver at the time along w Mark. Two class fellows RIP, Davey forever 28....

Hut talked about that part about getting sick the day before Davey had the helicopter crash during The Scene Vault podcast. And about the Allison family taking Davey's death pretty hard, his brother Clifford got killed at Michigan in 1992, Bobby and Judy got divorced around the mid-'90s, Bobby shut his team down after financial problems. These chain of events probably really started when Bobby had that career ending wreck at Pocono in 1988. That was one family that endured so much. Bobby and Judy got back together around 2000 and actually went to Adam Petty's funeral and gave their support to Kyle and his then wife Pattie. As soon as I saw these videos posted, I just had to watch. I had to see what Hut had to say and get Junior's reaction. Great stories is all I hear from this podcast.

The Michigan race was just a special race for Davey and Hut to finish 1-2. Being the biggest Allison fan ever,, I was so happy. Then.......... Clifford......... then Davey, To this day, I just don't know how the family got through it. More than ever, Bobby remains my absolute life hero.

I assume that Dale researches before he has guests come on the show but he seems like he is remembering all of the things and times. It makes the show seem like two old friends reminiscing. It is so enjoyable to listen to the show.

Met Hut back in the mid 90's when he drove the #8 Circuit City car in Hoover, Alabama just prior to the Talladega race. Such a nice guy and totally down to earth. I really wish his racing career had been more successful at the Cup level. Thanks Jr. for inviting Hut to to the podcast.

Anyone that loved Nascar prob like myself had their favorite driver and pulled for him every race taking no bad talk from rival drivers and fans. But there were a few drivers out there that everyone loved , were happy when they won or drove a great race no matter where your man finished. Davey Allison was one of those drivers. How could anyone seeing his constant smile., cheerful upbeat personality have anything but love, and silently pull for him and we all cried and miss him even today

I was lucky enough to meet davey @ New Hampshire in 1992. We were waking in the pit area after a race, when my dad grabbed me by the collar (gently of course) and told me to stand next to this Chevy Astro van. I was 9 years old and when I realized what was going on, I saw my idol in front of me. Davey was super nice and signed a 1:64 diecast of his car for me. Just over a year later, I was watching ESPN one night (think it was a Monday or Tuesday) when I saw a breaking news headline come up. I saw it was about Davey and that it wasn’t looking good, I got up and ran out to the garage (where my dad was) in tears. I knew my idol wasn’t gonna make it. I still think back to the day I met davey and think how lucky, I was to have met davey

My dad tells me all the time about my uncle Norman Litts used to call Bobby Allison all the time for racing tips and tricks. He even used to get all kinds of amc parts from Bobby for his own race cars. No idea where any parts are now but I have always loved the stories.

I met Hut years ago at Martinsville one of the most humble men I've ever met on the flip side of that I also met Geoff Bodine I was decked out in Dale Sr gear and he said only an idiot would wear "Ironhead" gear🤣

Davey Allison was my 1st favorite racer..I just stuck with the car after he died. Rough being a #28/42 fan after Davey was gone.😢

I cried when Davey got killed. If I’m not mistaken he led the points six weeks after he passed away. I remember Dale Sr. and Davey switched cars in practice, when Dale got out the car he said that was the fastest car he ever sat his ass in. I also remember the statement you said leading the race at the 2001 July Daytona Pepsi 400 😉✌️

I remember Hut in the late 70's, early 80's racing at Birmingham in the #7 Giant Auto Parts which was the family business. He was a regular winner around the South in those days. My Uncle raced in Street Stock back then. We later moved over to go kart racing around 1982 and afterwards. Loved the local racing back then, matter of fact we always went as far back as the 60's at Dixie Speedway in Midfield Al. when the Allisons, Red Farmer were already moved up from Florida and my Grandfather had a machine shop in his basement would do some spindle machine work for them. Great life back then❤

Dave was my REAL gateway into the sport. I had gone to races since I was very young. But, I never had a favorite driver. I was 7, going on 8 when RYR and Davey started his rookie season in the then Winston Cup series. my mom was a bobby Allison fan. So, I became a Davey fan since I was her son and Davey was Bobby's. Davey was always one of the nicest young men and would even take time to talk to me as a kid. Still friends with some of his family to this day even though I don't even live in America anymore.

Dale and kelly: I find myself appreciating liking your cast even more than the current nascar races. The history is so interesting from you and young family is great as a fan there's no way we can know these things. I loved the program where Mike interviewed your wife about the ice bath. Although I miss you on the track and was a great fan of both you and your dad am happy you got out of the car and we did not loose you .as far as driving you became as good if not better than your dad .,you had the skill but you did not become the second intimatator . In the old days I worked at ge across from the track and we would walk over and watch them practice . Dad and I were fans of fireball Robert's the driver who drove Pontiacs like us. Dad though when we first move had to have a used Hudson hornet!! I lived and worked in daytona and deland. I would like to see johnson on the program and hear the truth about him and gordon. The good old days were great. I hated the King winning all the time with factory backing though. I was happy to see you voted to the hall of fame. You always were the pie piper and most favorite driver. I cried when you came back and won the July race it was a great moment in sports.take care and don't drink to much.we have lost many heros to alcohol and others to drugs waylon cash mantle.

I never realized how young Hut is. I would hear his name but ,never saw him. I thought he was a older guy. Come to find out, I have a couple years on him. What I remember most about him is Benny Parson saying his name didn't come from football

I was 10 when Davey passed away. The year prior, Davey won at what was then PIR, (Phoenix), and my Mom, Dad, sister and I snuck into the garage area after the race. There used to be that pedestrian bridge over what used to be turn 4 and back in the those days, security wasn’t as strict I guess, so we just walked up there and into the garage area. We walked the garage, took a ton a pics my Mom still has of those amazing cars from 1992. Anyways, my Mom and I separated from my Dad and sister, and we ended up near pit road and there was a huge crowd of people gathered. We made our way over to see what was happening and the most amazing thing happened; Davey emerged from the crowd right in front of us, walked right by us, looked at us, smiled and he patted my 9 year old self on the shoulder and ran up to the press box for more interviews or whatever I assume. It was over in seconds, but we couldn’t believe it, happened out of no where. We had no clue Davey was in the middle of that bunch of people and he just comes out of it and just smiled at me and patted me on the back as he ran by. I was a Kyle Petty fan at the time, but immediately a fan of Davey after that. I’ll never forget watching ESPN as a kid that day and seeing him being rushed into the hospital on a stretcher. Sounds lame maybe, but as a 10 year old kid who never experienced loss at that time in my life, I was crushed and didn’t understand or comprehend really why my favorite driver wasn’t on TV every Sunday anymore. Forever a Davey fan, loved this episode with Hut.

I can’t help but wonder did Hut, Davey and the guys go over to Beaches Speedway on Panama City Beach, back beach road and Allison Drive. It was a great race track. You could hear the cars running for several miles around. Great racing.

I remember many a Saturday night after the races at Montgomery. When Davey Ronald,Donald,Kenny Hut and Jimmy Kitchens would stop at the Shoneys in Prattville before heading back to Birmingham. Those were some fun days. I was a teenager back then I am 50 now.

Clifford actually passed away almost a year prior to Davey. I still have my Texaco Havoline #28 tee that I bought at the 1992 Winston 500, and got to see Davey win that one in person as well as the IROC race that weekend also.

Man, when I was a kid, that #1 Hawaiian Tropic car that Donnie drove was my favorite.

21:14 - That's crazy, Cheers is in Concord about 10 minutes from the track. Me and my family would go there after the races on Sunday every year. I thought the food was good, we never had an issue. Crazy to think that Hut would have been in Davey's helicopter had they not got food poisoning Saturday night. Sorry, just hit close to home.

My uncle used to drive for Yates and hauled Davey’s car/show cars back in the day. I miss being a kid and getting to climb in the cars and ride in them when he backed them off the trailer.

I've always been a Hut Stricklen fan. Great interview. I wanted to say, Aunt Martha is the best interview ever. She reminds me of my aunt's & cousins here in Eastern Kentucky. The Tommy Russell & Tony Furr...those s the types of guys we want to hear from. Try to get Pete Wright & those guys from that Era. Tony Glover would be a good one. Ritchie Barz. And Steve Hmeil.......I have listened to his interview several times both Herr & the Scene Vault.

Love the history that Jr. gets and with all the drama that goes on NASCAR wise makes some of these shows tend to be sessions I don't watch. If some knew what racing used to be would not follow the garbage that goes on now. Keep on producing, stuffs good!

I remember meeting Hut when I was really young at an autograph session in Calera. I couldn’t believe he knew my dad and grandpa. I thought I was so cool haha

I have some Hut die-cast stuff from the 90's .

I was a fan of the whole Allison family. But I was more of an Alan Kulwicki fan having watching him race at Slinger Super Speedway, and many other tracks like Milwaukee. The weekend Alan was killed was bad. We saw the Allisons on the Tuesday in April in Greenfield, Wisconsin for the wake for Alan. Over the years we've seen so many die in racing. But then I've lived long enough to see many die from other means, I've managed to just outlive them. Among the racers, Larry Deitjens racing with Alan at Kaukauna, Pat Shouer in an ASA race In Indiana when a tire let go and hitting the inside guardrail and it entered the car killing him.

Davey was my favorite driver. One question I do have, was Davey wearing a helmet when the helicopter crashed?

If i live to be a hundred, ill nevee forget, Davey had made it big, one of the Allison Girls had gotten a brand new double wide, we delivered it right at the time before Davey died in crash, in a down poor, i mean mud, it rained for a week doing that house.
