Well they should have traded Donaldson last year...they waited too long and got screwed. Horrible asset management.
@kevinblack16
@kevinblack16 6 лет назад
and then everybody says "why did they trade Donaldson?" if all the other pieces fell into place this year. (Injuries, pitching, etc). This is sports. You can't predict the future.
@HGX1
@HGX1 6 лет назад
@@kevinblack16 no one was saying that, a year ago everyone was saying this team was done, it was super clear. You definitely can't predict the injuries but they were never ever ever going to make the playoffs as red sox and Yankees were stacked. They could have gotten quite a bit for him if they traded him last year, it was painful to watch them not do it as the months went by.
@johnb4632
@johnb4632 6 лет назад
Yep; St.Louis would have sold their farm to the Jays last summer for Donaldson.Jays blew it.But I am sure the pressure was from the fans as to not trade him. So the fans are to blame too.But only Shatkins knew if they were going to make a qualifying offer after 2018 season to Donaldson.That's the real question.I doubt it because they Vlad Jr was coming up for 3rd base in 2019.
@HGX1
@HGX1 6 лет назад
@@johnb4632 i think if you let the fans influence your decisions as a GM you shouldn't be a GM. Fans have unrealistic views of how to run a team.
@johnb4632
@johnb4632 6 лет назад
helder gasper; But fans pay the salaries of players. Do you know why the Red Sox and Yankees have the best teams yes money but if the Yankees or Red Sox lose 3 games in row the NY and Boston fans freak out and they speak their minds which effects the GM's decisions. Fans in these cities force their GM's to make moves.

Facts- a number of Jays have been injured these past few seasons and have struggled with recovery. Nothing wrong with questioning why that is ..... I also think Shapiro is a crook. Look at what he did to our team Canada jersey. Just to save a few bucks he decided to keep the Jays logo a single white color instead of the regular teams logo. Even the side patch is gone. Very cheap looking jersey now just like the man he is...CHEAP! He has disrespected the fans. I will not invest my pocket book nor my EMOTIONS into this team while the sob is in office.

James G Encarnacion was a free agent and able to sign wherever he wanted. And as far as Shappy trading Donaldson to the Indians, teams trade with other front offices they are comfortable or have a long relationship with most of the time.

What's the point in trading him for, as of right now, next to nothing? If you were going to trade him you should've done it this past offseason. Otherwise, he probably would've accepted a 1yr deal based off this injury riddled season. Could have competed next year or at the very least trade him in the middle of the year after he shows he's healthy again. Never trade in a position of weakness unless they demand a trade.
@squintz2103

Well, he didn't compete this year at all, maybe they know something that we don't about his physical condition.

I would say jays are just bad luck with the players they traded..Osuna got into domestic violence in June and got suspended pretty much lost all his trade value and I think getting Ken Giles wasn’t a bad return..What did we expect getting in Return for this version of Donaldson?
@jamesmiddleton5309
@jamesmiddleton5309 6 лет назад
Really good question. While I’d prefer someone else, you can’t help but feel for the situations they’ve been put in. 1. Edwin declines their better offer 2. JD got injured for literally an entire year 3. Joey Bats fell off a cliff (thank god they didn’t pay him that extension) 4. Osuna beats his girlfriend and torpedos his value 5. Sanchez and Stroman have battled injuries and inconsistencies. I mean even if 2 or 3 of these happened, think about how different the situations would be? Say that JD was healthy and playing at an all star level? That’s at minimum a Machado level deal, and with Osuna you still have a stud closer and if you trade him you would get a MASSIVE HAUL. But I’ve liked some of their draft picks and international signings. I think for the Jays to compete they’re gonna need to be massive in international free agency and drafting. That’s where your team comes from. Not free agency

Feel for the situation they've been put in? They were handed a legit world series Contender and have completely destroyed the team. They purposely low balled Edwin knowing full well what he was looking for, so offered him well under that KNOWING he wouldn't take it. And it was his first time exploring free agency and wanted to see what his value was and jays wouldn't give him that chance, so they withdrew the offer and handed it to morales basically. Then Jose has one bad season avg wise but was still one of the jays most productive hitters leading jays in walks and runs scored and was 4th for HRS and RBIs. Was also 4th in RF fielding % in the AL just behin Mookie betts last season which nobody talked about and both had same amount of errors but Jose had more assists. So one bad season and they don't even entertain bringing him back on a tiny contract, when he was one of the main players fans paid money to watch. If u watch the games there, every jersey u see has his name on it just about or other guys that no longer play there. And then Osuna, nobody even knows what happened yet and chances are charges will get dropped and jays chase him out of town like some monster. And now JD is gone. Albeit some of these are tough business decisions, but what's left to show for them? THe Jays have no character anymore, no players fans pay money to come and see nor care about. They are scary bad and scary boring now. Just a bunch of filler pieces fitting together to make a very mediocre at best team. They better pray Vladdy turns out Ok. IMO they are placing too much stress on him, making it seem like they're entire future rests on his shoulders. And I hope he isn't resenting them not being called up, cause he's more than earned it and can't see him being ok with waiting another season while hitting nearly .400 in minors.

I heard Sid praising Cleveland Indians and Shapiro.Cleveland is a good team but they are in a weaker division.We have the NY Yankess and Red Sox.Tampa would be 3 games behind the Indians and Seattle would tied if in that weak division.But Tampa is 20 games behind Red Sox in the East. My point let's get the Jays to lobby against playing in the east division; let's switch to the Central division and put the Indians in the east.Then it will be fair and the Indians would not look so good.

Give the group time. They inherited the oldest team in the league. Everyone knows the foundation you build is the farm system first which is what they are doing. All these people suggesting they are Indians guys and that's a bad thing? Check the standings folks. Imagine the mess the team would be in if they caved on Joey Bats, Edwin ' s and JD'S contract demands? It would be an albatross of already bad contracts AA brought on board.

Look what Shap and Atkins were handed in 2016, a legit contender. Since then, within 2 seasons they've managed to chase almost every single jays star away one way or another. (Edwin, Jose, Osuna and now JD) and I get some of those from business aspect but what do they jays have to show for them? They've let legacy players go for a bunch of filler type pieces. And to hear Atkins say one of Hernandez, Grichuk or McKinney will turn into a Jose Bautista is just really desperate selling. Trying to make a dime, look like a dollar. Fans have no faith in these 2, who came from Indians in 16 and whose team elimated the Jays, and now somehow the Indians have the jays 2 best players and Jays' have NOTHING??? Indians team has only gotten much better while the Jays have gotten much worse. WTF is going on there?
@chongqinger

Blue Jays (Rogers) owned media can't honestly be critical of their own team. Basically nothing for Osuna, Donaldson, Encarnacion...They had no intention of signing David Price when he wanted to stay. Nothing but mediocre players brought in for replacements. They'll have a tough time trying to attract any player of Donaldson's or Price's magnitude in the future. Management looks pretty awful to me.

It's a back and forth for me. The only thing right now I like is the farm and I think it's going to be number 1 in the future.... FA and resigning negotiations.. they suck, but it's the Farm that's making me optimistic. So right now it's a wait and see for me . I expect them to lose just like the orioles, but it's not always a bad thing. I just hope that they don't become the KC Royals whom I think is still the worst franchise that keep losing forever (the longest stint before winning the WS)... and now the Royals suck again and are probably gonna suck for a long time again . that being said. I'll give them maybe 2 years or so and if there's no improvement ... then I'd say fire them . The Donaldson thing ... I think they should've traded him long time ago and got some good value in return .

zero confidence in Shatkins. Lets see, they blasted AA for trading too many prospects to bring us the best baseball this city has seen since 1993. They didnt recognize the chance to trade donaldson last year when it was clear to EVERYONE that we werent going to compete against NY or Bos and worst of all they fielded a mediocre small ball team this year that wont accomplish anything productive, at least if they had cleaned house we could been looking at a top draft pick. ship them back to Cleveland pleeesse
