I am 68 and I remember going through the button jars of my mom,on Sunday if I was bored. I must have been about 6 years old. Love that a lot of people remember doing this as a child.🙏🏻😊
I'm a big fan of your videos. At 73 yrs old I remember having a button box. Back in the day I think most people had one and a little sewing box. Mine was usually a old cigar box. We had to repair our clothes then. Including sewing patches on ripped jeans. Lol 😆 now we buy them ripped!
My hubby always teases me for religiously watching your videos. He asked if I wanted to go thrifting this weekend for our anniversary😊 Now I already knew, but that’s love, lol. I am so lucky!
My mama had a button box. It’s the one thing my daughter asked for when mama passed. My daughter remembered digging through mama’s button box when she was a little girl.
Loved your vacation videos! You always make me laugh with your dry sense of humor. Laural is a hoot! Definitely has a mind of her own. That's a good thing as Martha Stewart would say.
Ohio Antique brothers just stocked a lot of different stoppers in a glass case last week. They said it was their last ones left. Maybe you can get in touch and let them know what kind you need.
I believe that the button jars were actually made to be a “Look and Find” jar you used to see them in Dr. offices to occupy time . Used to have a list attached of items to find in the jar.Great for the kids!
I would give my children the tin of buttons while I prepared dinner. They are good for learning; sort by size, color, counting etc. I also put some magnets on a few chosen ones and gave them as gifts. Thanks for the memories💜
Love the pink holt Howard bowls! I love to find jars of buttons! My mom sewed a lot in the 70’s and 80’s and had a shoe box full of buttons that she gave me when I got married 23yrs ago. I have no idea what I did with it 🤦🏻♀️ btw I love that color shirt on you!
19:38 I really enjoyed looking at all of the buttons. I also remember going through my grandma’s buttons when I was a little girl. Great memories! Thank you! 😊
I used to love looking through my Mom's button collection when I was a kid, although hers weren't as eclectic as the ones you found. Great video as always, thanks Jocelyn! 👍🏼
I loved the button daddy comment. I also loved playing with buttons when I was little. The ones you got are so colorful. I bet you will have fun playing with them.
Buttons are a pain to get nowadays. You have to order them, especially for anything a little different. Nicer ones can be pricey. Sewers would love those jars.
I love that you pick up Tom Clark gnomes. My mom had a large collection she started to buy in the 80s. She had so many collections of different things. When she sold her house we had a three day estate sale, this was before I started reselling. I took a few of the gnomes for myself and still pick them up when sourcing.
JoAnn Fabrics sells a jar like that (but of similar color I think) for $10 to $13 each. Walmart also sells them but not sure how much. Amazon has them for $8 plus ship. I bought a mixed bag of buttons from Goodwill I think $3.99 and I have used it quite a few times to fix missing buttons on my clothing and clothing I sell online too. You are right, it is fun to go through. In mine I found some old military buttons. If I ever get desperate for $ I can probably fish those out and try to sell on line too. :-).
Nice and fun haul, Jocelyn. I'll be in your area again in early September and who knows, maybe I'll run into you again when I'm on the 'Crazy Lamp Lady Trail' again! 😂 Oh and if you look closer at that die...it is indeed a button. It has holes in it. One of the holes is on the 6 side and the other is probably in the center of the dot on the 1 side.
You ever come to the Niargara Falls/Buffalo area, I have a full set of Theordore Haviland Arcadia china--soup tourraine and teapot too if you are interested!!!! Pretty set with the birds.
I loved looking through my grandmothers buttons!!! What a fun memory unlocked 🥰🥰🥰 Hey, hey, hey it’s button daddy!😂😂😂 Oh my that little girl figure was just Sooooooo adorable 🥰 BTW your new space looks fabulous ❤❤❤
I like that goodwill, lots of goodies at a fair price, thats getting more rare as time goes on. Havent seen yall hit up any flea mkts for a long time , i miss those. New shop is lookin so good.
I swear fingering buttons is meditative. My mom, sister, and I would dump a big jar of buttons on the table and rifle through them as we chatted and had coffee.
My mom had a big coffee can full buttons. I did the same thing you did when I was little. Totally forgot about it until you mentioned it. Great memories. Love love love your videos.
Amazing price on the buttons. I've never been able to pass up a deal on old buttons, so I have way too many. I use old canning jars to separate colors and display, and as a sewist, I always go to my stash of "old" buttons for any new sewing project. The old "pearl" buttons are soo much better on blouse/shirts than today's plastic buttons.
Those buttons are so fun. I love the sea shells. You might want to check to see if any of the black buttons are jet glass. They used to use them on clothing for mourning.
I use vintage buttons in making jewelry. I use them as a clasp for leather & suede pieces as well as several wired together as brooches & pendants. Great deal on the jars of buttons!
mom had buttons and bits of old jewelry lots of this and that, some from my grandmother. They were in what we called the button box, but it was a tin cookies came in. Lots of fun!
What size suit jacket does Andrew wear? Pls? I’m so going to find an old suit Jacket and sew buttons all over it and maybe a few bells. 😂😂😂. He’s funny with his dry humor. I use to love to play with my grandmas button jars. She always had great ones. We would do all sorts of things with them. But she would always look me right in the face and make sure I was listening to her and tell me that I couldn’t break them or lose them that she would know because she knew all of her buttons. lol. She taught me to sew on my first button when I was approx 3 yrs old. She was my mama grandma.
I like button jars. It reminds me of digging thru my Mothers & my Grandmothers sewing drawers. I have a couple jars filled with theirs & my own collection. Got to start somewhere ! 😃😇
Thank you for Sharing. I remember going through my mother's button stash, it was always so much fun. Please Stay Safe Happy and Healthy Have A Wonderful Day
Trachten is a term for folk outfits and clothes. Each canton, town or area got their own costumes. These are German, upper one from Hamburg, but same in Austria for example.
You can make bracelets with those buttons. Next time your thrifting look for suspenders or elastic belts. cut to elastic to size plus seam allowance, sew on buttons. sew ends together by hand. use button thread because it's stronger.
I really love old buttons, so it was cool that you bought those button jars. I have some neat ones that I’m going or planning to turn into jewelry should be interesting to see how it all turns out.
I love buttons. My grandson loved going through my buttons. And i have a lot of jars full . And i went through my granny's .and that is some of the buttons i have .
I’m surprised you never look in the baggies, for missing stoppers. A hair dryer will remove price stickers, without removing the paint. Control the heat setting. I love buttons, and Adam (my Grandson) loves them. I have really old ones. I have a bunch of button bouquets. I haven’t been to Cape May in many years. I’m in NC, a transplant from NY. I use to go to Connecticut Goodwills, and Savers because they had great items.
