I hated it, too. But it makes sense. This war has been going on for 100 years, and the Fire Nation has done some terrible things. The fact that Lee rejects Zuko just shows how awful the Fire Nation is that the people of the Earth Kingdom would rather deal with earthbending bullies than be saved by a firebender. I do, however, wished that Lee hesitated just a bit before completely rejecting Zuko. Like, it would have been cool to see this boy, who has been oppressed by the Fire Nation his entire life, who has been taught that all Fire Nation citizens, especially firebender, are evil, try to process the fact that the prince of the Fire Nation was kind to him and protected him. Just a millisecond of hesitation would have been cool.

I don't blame the mother at all. It's subtle but the family is thinking Zuko could possibly stay with them and fill the void of their son. On the flip side of that Zuko sees he could finally be surrounded by a family that accepts him. So when the lady finds out he's is fire nation and the Prince she is heart broken on different levels.

I think you are just overthinking it. Just because Iroh thinks of Zuko as his own son doesn't mean that every parent who's child is missing (in this case her child is not even dead) is looking for replacement in strangers is not true at all.

I think the part where he went wrong was telling them who he was after using his fire bending. He should have just said he was a wanderer and if they questioned how he knew how to firebend he could just say he grew up in the Fire Nation, but he left because he didn’t agree with their mission to conquer the world. We’ve already seen in the show that Fire Nation soldiers are still human and not all of them really want to conquer the world, but rather are just in the military either by force or because they wanted the experience, so it would make sense for them to believe that Zuko would want to leave the Fire Nation by his own free will.

Worth noting that this episode was written by Elizabeth Welch Ehasz. imo one of the best writers of atla. She also wrote The Avatar and The Fire Lord, The Southern Raiders which are fan favorite eps. All 3 episodes including this showed great characterization and excellent writing. Wish we could've seen more of her work.

This added great complexity to Zuko's backstory. He was selfless, and helped out the son. Even after these actions, he was still outcast by those he protected.

It was the episode when Zuko finally realised how people from other nations see fire nation people. All the illusion Ozai has fed him that fire nation is great and they are sharing their wealth to other nations was finally coming down. Zuko was staring to see the fire nation for what it really has become: a tyrant and invading nation.

When reveiling his identity, almost everything he said was technically a lie: "My name is Zuko [true], son of Ursa [true] and Firelord Ozai [actually, since Ozai disowned him, he doesn't consider Zuko his son ATM, so in a way a lie], Prince of the Fire Nation [no, at the moment, you're dusowned, so you're not] and heir to the throne! [nope, see last reason]"

I think this was a really symbolic moment. His mother told him "never forget who you are." But when he stayed true to himself, what happened? He was rejected and hated. But was he what he really said he was? I don't mean it was inaccurate because of being disowned... I just mean, was he truly meant to follow the path he had imagined for himself? "Never forget who you are." He tried, but I think he was wrong about who he was. I think this is one of the first moments that starts to pull apart Zuko's true identity (a compassionate young man) from his own perceived identity (the heir to a uncaring royal family of a war-mongering nation).

I think it says a lot for this show to really be more a coming of age show then a childrens show, when you are at your lowest you have to make really tough decisions and those decisions in those dark times really mold who you grow up to be. Also this show shares similaraties (including a similar name) with the second episode of the 4th season of the legend of korra - Korra Alone when she is at her lowest and trying to figure herself out as a person!

The ending of this episode is one of the most profound pieces of storytelling I’ve seen on television. In order to protect those he’s come to care about he must accept who he is and reveal the truth. In doing so he sacrifices his desire to be loved and accepted. He proves himself to be both honorable and heroic despite the inevitable suffering it brings him.

Zuko Alone and most of season 3 are moments where Iroh wasn't with Zuko. I think Iroh is the best thing that could happen to him but it seems like Zuko rarely make choice by himself and still wonders what would happen if he was acting by himself. I think that's why in those episodes he has such character growth. Without Iroh, he is more aware of his action and I love so much what they did with these two characters.

This was my favorite episode of Atla+Korra. The writing was phenomenal. This episode really gave a lot of depth to Zuko's character. Its not often that you see a show give that much character development to a villain. Instead of the villain just being a bad person who enjoys doing evil stuff. This episode really showed the personality struggles that Zuko had.

Zuko always had his honor and to be himself but his family besides Uncle Iroh and Mother. He was around negativity to much like that saying when your around trash you start to act like it. Well for this one Zuko was around negative/evil people which are his dad and sister but that doesn't mean he has to act like them, just stay away and be himself.

the episode is the reminder that no matter what kind things u did or at least what u did what was right there's always going 2 be hatred. there's always going 2 be prejudice. which is real reality. it's also sad that in zuko alone even the earth kingdom village is sad, grim, even earthbenders just abuses their power 2 hurt the poor 1's who r their own people that r damaged bcuz of fire nation and the war that lost hope. still 1 of the best episodes 2 demonstrate that.
