Biophysist and Biochemist Dr. Maximilian Plach talks about a
groundbreaking new technology for editing genes, called CRISPR-Cas9. The tool allows scientists to make precise edits to DNA strands, which could lead to treatments for genetic diseases … but could also be used to create so-called "designer babies." Max reviews how CRISPR-Cas9 works - and asks the scientific community to pause and discuss the ethics of this new tool. Max has earned his PhD in biophysics and computational biology at the University of Regensburg, Germany. He is now Chief Scientific Officer of 2bind, a dynamic and growing company focused on providing biophysical research services for biotech and pharma industries. It is therefore no wonder that Max closely follows the latest breakthroughs and developments in biotech and biomedical technology. He is a long viewer and listener of TED talks; the more exotic, the better. Or who doesn’t remember the talk about the world’s worst city flags? This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Why isn’t this being talked about right now with the pandemic? I studied CRISPR cas-9 a few years ago and see so much potential!

I wonder if in the future we will have DNA programming languages And then we will have that bunch of people that keep arguing which DNA programming language is better, then Stack Overflow will open a new sister site...

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, I've heard said. I think it means knowing enough to do something you cant recover from once you discover there was a lot more you didn't know, that had you known, you wouldnt have done what you did with what little knowledge you had that you thought was a lot based on what little you knew previously. Go for it. You're going to meet your Maker, one way or the other. Your Death is certain just as sure as you were born.

There is one part of evolution that we utterly cannot control, actually two. We cannot see the future, and death.

Human is a colony of cells. There has been negotiation between cells as to cast the parts or roles in that colony.That negotiation process is very interesting evolutional function. BTW: if you make mosquitoes extinct that ("because you can") way you might get rid of humans at the same random swing. You have no idea what kind of chain reaction there will be. Just for the fun of it lets create some random possible chain reaction: Loose mosquitoes->loose birds->bats get hugely more room in ecosystems->viruses grow in now larger bat colonies million times more than before -> there will be virus that is more contagious than covid19 but kills everyone not just vulnerable -> 3 Billion humans die randomly ->2 Billion more in subsequent wars. all economy and more importantly civilization vanishes. Please think twice before you intercept evolution mechanism and make species instinct.

Your selection is based on past experiences, you cannot see the future. Your current desired choice might be total disaster in future.
@sahinyasar9119
@sahinyasar9119 Месяц назад
@@SladkaPritomnost I belive that its more like compound potential of humanity. If there were the greatest human, inevitably some of their talent will come from their DNA. Of course my desire can lead to disaster but don't you think most dictator, genociders or sick people's parent don't think their kid would become disaster in the future? Either way its bound to luck and all i want people to have that talent before they discover what they want to be.
@SladkaPritomnost
@SladkaPritomnost Месяц назад
@@sahinyasar9119 I might be wrong but genes are not everything, its also epigenetics (enviroment) that plays a role + randome mutations (e.g. caused by cosmic radiation) no body can orchester that together. There is a big part of randomnes in it. We should keep trying, observing us and keep doing things that go naturaly and not to worry about failures much. Success is paved by failures.
@sahinyasar9119
@sahinyasar9119 Месяц назад
@@SladkaPritomnost I agree. We cant remove randomness but still if there is something we can do to decrease some of random, we should because sometimes people do born without getting chance to experience failure because of their birth defects. Success is indeed paved by failures and to get success we need to try and try till succed.

If you study how your body works, which is absolutely BRILLIANT, you have to conclude we have a maker! We absolutely do have a maker and modern "science" has it completely wrong, while real science actually supports the fact that we have a maker!
