As a hispanic I appreciate the fact that some of these actors in the film wanted to be apart of this film and play these characters even if they don’t have a Spanish background. it’s a movie at the end of the day love it for the action and dialogue.
Scarface is among the best remakes to come out in the 80's with the Fly,the Thing, the Blob and Invaders from Mars. some didn't even know Scarface was a remake.
Some don’t even know that 12 Monkeys was a remake of a French short film and The Magnificent Seven is a Western remake of the Japanese film: Seven Samurais!!!
The TV cut of Scarface is hilarious "How'd you get the beauty mark, tough guy? Eating pineapple?" "Why don't you stick your head up your toilet? See if it fits" And my favourite, "This town is like one great, big chicken just waiting to be plucked".
I listen to the podcast on Spotify so I rarely comment, but I had to leave one saying how Royce is hands down the best guest ever. He's hilarious, smart, and the chemistry you both have together is incredible.
the movie is not good......Im so sick of the people who jerk it to this movie...Pacino's Cuban accent is a joke and cartoon character levels of bad, the story is bad. i instantly question someone's taste in movies the instant they start farting out what an amazing movie it is... I hate the Scarface people almost as much as I hate to god damned Donnie Darko imbeciles who pretend they're like a genius because they LMFAO think Donnie Darko is so deep OR the Boondock Saints imbeciles who are constantly telling everyone how amazing and life changing Boondock Saints is.
I have the Eddie Guerrero/ Scarface shirt, I’ve had it when it came out, I barely wore it since High School, it was only to wrestling events, WWE or local promotions. Eddie came here to Hawaii in 2005, for an event, unfortunately that would be the first and last time I got to see him at a live show. RIP Eddie.
Another great acting performance by Pacino playing a criminal with somewhat of a conscience and a code whose life goes out of control. My favorite quotes from Scarface: - "Now the other leg, huh?" - "Every dog has his day." - "No wife! No kids." - "Say hello to my little friend!" How does Tony shoot Alberto in the car at point blank range without breaking the window? 🤔 The Xbox game was pretty cool, too.
One of the greatest movies of all time: great performance by Al Pacino, great direction from Brian De Palma, and an unforgettable script from Oliver Stone. It all began with a sleepless night from Pacino, he woke in the middle of the night and watched the Howard Hawks classic and said to himself I want to be Tony Camonte, he called his agent at the time, Marty Bregman and the rest is history.
I never understood the obsession with being Scarface I've known a lot of people to have. I could not take the kind of stress that life style would give you, even if you kept 100% drug free through it all.
@@thomasffrench3639 Quality of the film has nothing to do with what I said. I mean I've known people that wanted to actually be a drug kingpin like Antonio Montana.
Italians playing exaggerated versions of Cubans is objectively funny. People often forget that Scarface is De Palma’s borderline satire of the excess of the 80’s. Body Double is the same way but leans more into the sex than the violence.
@@ConstantineFurman He noticed where it was going. You can already sense it in the late 70’s. It’s not just the decade itself, I meant more so the culture.
The reason why the Carrie vhs cover was scarface inspired was because Brian De Palma who directed Scarface 1984 also directed Carrie a few years earlier
The original Carrie was also done by De Palma, maybe that's why the remake got the Scarface VHS cover? That's the closest connection I could think of at least.
I love this channel so much. The special guests the jokes, everything. Wish there were episodes more frequent but I’m just being greedy and totally understand it takes time to make these enjoyable.
"Antonio Piluso is the Tony Montana of comic book movies." - Leonard Maltin @ IGN - The Dark Knight Trilogy Collector's Blu-Ray w/ Digital & Digibook REVIEW
I remember watching this in grade school, and I had a scar on my face from someone hitting me with a croquet mallet.. and when people would ask me how I got my scar, I'd quote the movie. Some would laugh and some would be appalled. Dumb kids lmao 5 stars!
Not even gonna mention the soundtrack, the music at the club , the whole soundtrack is Flashback radio for GTA 3, Rush Rush Get the yayo , She's on Fire, Push it to the limit , etc.
Somehow missed Scarface forever until I checked out the original VHS one night from the video store I worked at in the early 2000s….this would’ve been right around the time that the movie exploded back into the pop culture zeitgeist because of rappers and MTV Cribs. Also, James Franco’s greatest contribution to cinema is from Springbreakers: “I got Scarface on REPEAT!” 😅
So to y'all's discussion about him getting shot a bunch of times and not going down. In Iraq, a buddy of mine was kicking down doors. They cornered a sniper in one of the buildings. The sniper was pumped full of drugs and kept popping out of a door on the second floor. Every time he popped out, they would shoot at him. He wouldn't go down, so they thought they were missing. Eventually he died. When they inspected the body, he had over 200 bullet holes in him. So the film actually isn't too far fetched.
I remember everyone talking about Scarface in middle school. It was crazy movie. Aside from the ending, my favorite scene was the chainsaw in the bathroom. Robert Loggia was awesome.
I tried to make a joke about master of disguise but apparently I can't say anything about little sausages and peanuts without youtube deleting my comment.
I'm really glad you brought up American History X as far as a movie where people seem to miss the entire point of the movie. I unfortunately knew far too many people that were "inspired" by that movie to become racists.
love your channel, so excited when I saw you did Scarface, yes Al Pacino went way over the top but in the most entertaining best way, he gave us such an iconic character.
I rented this 20 years ago on double pack VHS 📼 at the video store across from my elementary school. Probably May or June 2002. This was before Vice City was released, I wonder what influenced me to check it out... I was probably already on the movie message boards by then.
Steve Bauer - was "Manny" in Scarface; who was also in "Breaking Bad"; I liked Giancarlo Esposito in "Breaking Bad" as Gus Fring (Gustavo Fring, the Chicken man; a villain character). the Mariel Boat lift. Miami Vice: it had John Leguizamo (in 1986; it was his film debut) and PR (Puerto Rican) Luis Guzman (in 1985: "The Prodigal Son." as Miguel Revilla). Who remembers Elián González, that kid, in the news. (credit: IMDB)
Wondered why I recognized the name...Royce partners with "you're done kiddo" Mersh. Christ man - you are entertaining as hell in this. You should strike out on your own.
Funny enough, I felt like Once Upon a time in Hollywood had DiCaprio and Pacino giving their best performances in a really long time. And was cool to see them act in the same scene (and neither has to yell In said scene lol)
I read that a lot of the political prisoners were homosexuals. I read that the freedom flotilla release was like emptying the "undesirables" from the jails.
I rented a room in Aspen CO when I worked there for a season. The lady that was the owner/subletor inplied that she came over with the boat criminals in the 80s.
About Tony Montana's accent, I don't know how many viewers here aren't native english speakers, but I wonder how dubs around the world dealed with his accent. In Brazil this move had a dub made at the time the film was released where Tony had this awful forced accent to the point none of his line where understandable. And then, more recently, they made a new dub (with 5.1 surround and shit like that) where he has no accent whatsover and it worked a lot better.
It’s funny how Tony views that Sosa’s hit squad were Cuban. Me coming from a Hispanic background, I always viewed them as Colombians or other South Americans in the Bolivia region and what not. Frank was of Cuban decent but he was Americanized aka gringo. But Sosa had his hit squad on speed dial because Frank foreshadows this earlier in the movie.
