Dalilah Muhammad of the United States has been one of the most dominant athletes in the sport since winning gold in the 400mH at the 2007 World Youth Championships. Since then, she has won multiple Olympic and World Championship medals, as well as run some of the fastest times in history.
Muhammad's combined achievements over the last 8 years have surpassed those of her peers, both past and present, which I think currently makes her the greatest Women's 400m hurdler in the history of the sport.
**Note: Tatyana Zelentsova of the Soviet Union also broke the world record on two occasions, running 55.31 and 54.89 in 1978. Though she won the European Championships that year, the Women's 400mH was not introduced as an event at the World Championships until 1983 and the Olympics in 1984, so Zelentsova never had the opportunity to compete at either before she retired.

Loved the video! Her hurdling technique is close to perfect. NYT has a great article about it. I hate how overlooked she is despite her accomplishments. Some people have already written her off

Yes, I think that's the big difference and what sets her apart. Her hurdle technique is A+ and despite not being as fast over the flat, she is able to be extremely efficient which has brought her success over the past few years. Note that she led the Tokyo Olympic final coming off hurdle 10! Thanks for watching!

2013 world champs silver 2017 world champs silver 2019 world champ gold 2016 olympic champ 2021 olympic silver she broke the world the world record twice in one season. she was hurt this year, and got covid and still ran 51.58 so she's has technical broken the world record 3 times. its hard to say she's not. she doesn't get the press SYD gets. not too many people who have broken a world record twice in one season.
@TheFinalLeg
@TheFinalLeg 2 года назад
Yup, that point about her being hurt this year shows that she can perform when it matters most. She was also injured right before USAs I'm 2019 with a concussion I think but managed to break the world record twice. Definitely doesn't get the deserved recognition. Thanks for watching!

@@TheFinalLeg > Your long layoff from posting on RU-vid has left you a little rusty in terms of your normally world-class analysis of the sport. Hopefully you'll return to top form once the rust wears off. You usually dont need to juggle numbers to make your point.

This is the golden era of this event similar to what we saw in the 100 with bolt gatlin gay Blake Powell. Syd Dalilah femke will set the standard so far ahead that these times won’t be touched. Dalilah started this wave

@@TheFinalLeg I’m looking at shamier little the Jamaican hurdler, and the Panamanian hurdler Gina woodruff. All of them are constantly moving up the all time ranks. And they keep setting pbs. Hard work and running with the big three. Put it like this u can’t have a off day in this race bcuz u have three to four that can win

Thanks! Been a bit busy but back now. I will likely do a full recap video of the womens 100m year after the season is over though considering there are a few more meets where things can change.

What about Sydney McLaughlin

She is only 21 lol. She has time. Also doesn’t have a WC title yet
@TheFinalLeg
@TheFinalLeg 2 года назад
Though she now has the world record, she doesn't have as many medals yet. I think because she is so young, she will very likely become the greatest of all time soon enough. Thanks for watching!

@@TheFinalLeg> Your bias is showing amigo! While Dalilah was winning gold against teenagers at the 2007 World JUNIOR Championships, Sydney was racing GROWNUPS at that age while advancing to the 2016 Olympic semifinals.
@gazzelle4
@gazzelle4 2 года назад
The most accomplished (by your criteria). Even with Sydney's small sample size, I'd have to say McLaughlin is the greatest 400m hurdler of all-time (by a sliver). You can't discount the two sub-52s and she's already been on two Olympic teams.
@TheFinalLeg
@TheFinalLeg 2 года назад
The two sub 52 second runs are legendary for sure. I think she just needs to get more medals to become the greatest. But considering how amazing McLaughlin is and how young she is, she will very likely get there. Thanks for watching!

So has Muhammed😂😂 she also has an Olympic gold. And now an Olympic silver. Not by his criteria but she’s been wining since medals since 2013.

@@gazzelle4 there’s nothing Syd has done that muhammed HASNT DONE. World record? Twice! Olympic champ? Done it US champs? Done it Run 51 in 400 hurdles done it. The recent bias is strong. SHe’s a star, but muhammed has done more. And that’s nothing against syd she’s only 21.

This did not age well. No disrespect to Dalilah, but Sydney McLaughlin owns this event now.

Thats fair enough! At the time In my opinion she was the greatest. Sydney has taken the event to another level as I noted in the video. Capsule in time. Thanks for watching!

You lost ALL credibility with this ridiculous post!! McLaughlin is an ADAPTER who changed her style AND her coach to take this event to a whole new level. Sydney is only 22 and has MANY great years ahead of her. Dalilah is in the final stage of her epic career. You con- veniently juggle the numbers & names in a vain attempt to support your BIASED claim. PLEASE do NOT quit your day job homie!!

It's not a ridiculous really but the fastest time (clean) is the standard. Dalilah is one of the greats no doubt.
