Personally I would be grateful. Regardless of how it went, Lionel was just trying to save his son's life and sanity. If Lex got crippled, he'd spend much of it gaining sympathy from those he's trying to do business with and the rest of it lashing out on those he used to consider friends and family.

Maybe Lex had a point in saying that it wasn't Lionel's decision to make, but Lex ALWAYS jumped to the conclusion that Lionel did these things for his own personal gain (which, to be fair, was sometimes true). But even after Lionel became a changed man and tried to redeem himself in his life, Lex never gave him that chance. Both characters changed dramatically. Lex just became downright evil, while Lionel found the path toward redemption (in spite of his methods remaining unorthodox and unconventional).

Lex blamed Lionel for taking risk to avoid a crippled son bc well he learned it from his father. When lex put Lionel through operation resulting in his temporarily blindness in earlier seasons, Lionel said smth similar. I also can guess lex subconsciously partly wanted to be paralyzed. So he could give up playing catching up with Lionel and Clark and finally started to heal towards a happy life which he saw in a dream. Cause in a dream he escaped Lionel's influence giving up the money and power. And in this scenario Lionel would leave him himself If I remember correctly it was a lexmas episode and lex had a dream or vision of his happiness.
Lex was a cripple like Dr.Swan in The Justice League Gods and Monsters film, so he would have been perfectly fine with Lionel doing that safe option of him being alive and being a cripple more so than him potentially dying and not being a cripple.
