Don't forget that the Great North West Passage will be in their territory soon. So they'll be negotiating building ship ports/anchorages and outposts to support the region. Since the late 1950s, there's been plans for turning the Hudson Bay as a giant fresh water reservoir by turning it as an artificial fresh water lake/sea by building barrier islands to closed off the Hudson Bay. Initially it's supposed to prevent Soviet subs going into the Hudson Bay to be near striking distance to the Eastern US cities but later as a fresh water reservoir too. So it's likely the US government will negotiate to develop the Great North West Passage.

It's okay for Nunavut to decide on resource development but not for Alberta?
@jindaehyunclo
@jindaehyunclo 7 месяцев назад
To answer that question, it's got to do with the difference between a "Territory" and a "Province". A province of Canada inherets its powers from the Constitution of Canada, one of them including the power to natural resources. A territory of Canada however inherets its powers from the Government of Canada, which can change through an Act of Parliament. So even if a Territory is not on the same or equal status as a Province, the Government of Canada can actually devolve (or give) more powers to Nunavut than any other Province because of the fact that they are a territory, not a province.
