Anakin really only lost due to arrogance in that moment. Obi-wan was said to be as strong in the force as Yoda and as gifted a dueler as Windu - which makes him an anti-thesis to Anakin, since the same is said about him. I do think that in the moment, in a direct attack on the Jedi Temple, Anakin would have definitely defeated Obi-wan. You have to remember that his descent into the Darkside was what led him to being grossly deformed and butchered, and even in his moments of hate and contempt for Obi-wan; he still loved him like the father he never had, that bond became a weakness that inhibited Anakin's ability to fully descend into the darkside. Only after he realized Padme had died, did he truly become Darth Vader. Anakin had no such feelings for Yoda, or Windu; so against them it would be a pure bout of talent, and Anakin might have been outmatched against them. Against Obi-wan, it was more or less... well, even. So I think he meant "there's only two he would definitely lose to and one he might 50/50."

I know what you mean but I kinda liked how it was all sort of symbolic. Like they on,y had to show Anakin and the clone marching on the temple and you knowing Anakins emotions at the time, so you can imagine what was going on inside. Almost like a public execution and the camera shows the reaction of the persons wife rather than him actually being killed, as you know what the kill looks like but its the affect it has and the aftermath that carries the story forward. It’s like the scene where Yoda senses all the Jedi dying when he’s on Kashyyyk with Chewy, that scene brings tears to my eyes because you can see the pain and sadness as Yoda realises he’s failed the Jedi and Anakin.

Because what is the significance? They obviously killed everyone within sight. Long live Vader...

They would've killed him off as they must've known that Anikin would never become a good Jedi and always remain an edgy teenager and a danger. I was really high thinking about it the other day but most of it is just, in my opinion, more modern filming and choreography. It feels like the idea of lightsaber dueling at the time was more of that of a heavy sword, and as time went on we the audience began to expect bigger, more enthusiastic battles. I'm not sure of the timelines of all the comics and whatnot, but it would stand to reason in my mind that as our appetite for SW grew so did our understanding of the power of the force and dedication of saber wielders.

Yeah Yoda would kill every clone and Obi could fend off anakin until Yoda was finished to support him. A group of clones can't all shoot Yoda's chest when hes ripping around like a fucking mini lightsabre tornado. Yoda is so overpowered and nobody see's that. The only reason Yoda and Dooku's fight wasnt easy for Yoda was because Dooku could use the force to repel the tornado.

For Episode VI, although still powerful, Vader wasn't anymore what he was when he didn't had to use it's suit as Anakin Skywalker, now, he was just merely a shadow, but he managed to get adapted to the suit. That happens more in Legends, because in Canon, it seems that his lose of power after being defeated by Obi- Wan in Mustafar and being transformed into a cyborg was lesser than in Legends, it seems that in comparison, Legends`s Vader was weaker at the start and had to fight to recover it`s skill and power with the time, here instead he seems to not be so weakened like in Legends at the start, I mean, just after finishing his operation in Coruscant he managed to "Force Wave" and send Palpatine to a wall.

Well neither of them understood the power of the high ground. Obiwan jumps OVER Darth maul and kills him. Then when anakin tries the same move obiwan knows how to counter it, having learned the lesson from his fight with maul.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is an experienced Jedi Master and is adaptable when in battle. Anakin Skywalker didn't have the matched experience of his master and made a fatal mistake.

@Overkill XJ It doesn't always work like that. Just because A beat B and B beat C doesn't mean A will beat C. There are more factors that go into lightsaber duels like the setting/surroundings and the force. The user's mentality also plays a big part. Anakin was still not at his full potential, and I think he was still less powerful than Yoda and Palpatine. Personally, I wish Anakin won all his fights or not get burned at least. And Dooku would never beat Yoda. Why do you think Dooku ran away? Anakin would most likely put up a good fight against Yoda but in the end Yoda's experience and skill would help him defeat Anakin.

Daz Davis92 they actually did like Jango. They saw him as their father and eachother as brothers. After his death, both the Kaminoans and Republic told them that Jango didnt know that he made a deal with the wrong side but he still honorably stuck to his word. The Clones were then told that it took dozens of Jedi to kill him. This likely led to them being desensitized before acting out Order 66.

theRTT the story would have been so different and we would have never had the original trilogy which let's be honest, some of the greatest movies only rivaled in my opinion by another fantastic trilogy "lord of the rings". As a spin off story though, that would be amazing. A legends story should be written on that and how things would have change if Yoda and obi wan had made it to the temple in time. Leading to the defeating of anikan and possibly turning him back to the light. Sparking an all out battle between obiwan, Yoda, and anikan fighting off the clone wave he was leading at the jedi temple and eventually having the 3 of them confront Palpatine and ending it there. Or an all put war between the jedi remaining and the clones that betrayed them to clense the fallen republic. Excellent idea brother. Got the cogs in my mind rolling.

I think this explanation has one HEAVY flaw. Anikin did not even think it was a terrible thing when he did it. The Jedi were traitors or even terrorists in his eyes. It's not really an act of the dark side to kill someone if you truely think it's neccessary for the good. Actually, if killing characters of the good side makes him feel guilt, that is the point where Sidious would've failed his conversion.

He did feel guilt though. That is the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.

1. He later felt guilty. He didn't feel guilty when he did it. 2. Since he felt guilty later, it's actually the sign of Sidious failure. Anakin only still stood by his side because he didn't have anyone else left. He betrayed ALL of his former friends. That Sidious failed is apparent when Vader, or Anakin again, kills him.

Well, if I see the expression on his face right, and if seeing tears is not part of my imagination, Anakin already felt terrible about it BEFORE he has done it.

Anakin was indeed extremely powerful, especially with his increased ability through the dark side, however he was arguably out-duelled by Jedi Master Cin Drallig, whom Anakin had to have shot by the clones due to his inability to best the Jedi Master - although that thought does intertwine with Cannon and Legends, even Dooku only took caution to 4 Jedi duellists, and Cin Drallig was among those 4. Also, had Jedi Masters Shaak Ti and Jocasta Nu both been alert to the danger, they both could have given Anakin an extremely difficult time without the help of the clones. And just to finish, had the clones not been accompanied Anakin he would most definitely not have been able to defeat all 20 or so Jedi Masters that were in the temple at the time, even if he had them all 1 on 1 (and that is not even including the other 80+ Jedi Knights that were in the temple too, all were well accomplished duellists in their own right).

@@lm8348 doesn't matter how accomplished they were, this isn't legends no more, where era's are filled with 10+ "best duelist" anymore. Anakin is a top tier duelist, around low S tier after defeating Dooku. Every other Jedi is B+ tier at best with only about 4 Jedi being around or above. This is evident with characters such as Quinlan Vos losing Vapaad, and how many Jedi who survived in legends are dead in canon. -Mace is arguably the best duelist. -Yoda is close second, and would beat Mace due to superior force powers in tangent. - Anakin is next, though by some distance. Obi Wan is A tier. He's lower than Anakin because his form isn't designed with lightsaber combat as a focus. However, he beat him because mindset and placement play factors in fights. Sidious is arguably on Obi Wan's tier, or more likely Anakin's. He got disarmed twice by Yoda and Windu, but makes up for it in insane force powers.

Tchoy Thao I’ve always believed that Sidious was far more powerful than he let on in the case of the Windu duel. Had he not lost, his plan would not have come to fruition, so he couldn’t win even if he had the strength to, which in my opinion he did (why given the opportunity would you only use one lightsaber instead of two?). I don’t think you can tier a duellist in any way either, due to outside factors playing a large part in a duel. I do believe force powers can be ranked, however the unfolding of order 66 made force powers irrelevant. It is canon that Dooku said to General Grevious that there was only 4 Jedi he would not be able to defeat (which we can infer that Dooku had both respect and fear for these masters), and Cin Drallig was among those 4. It was also known that Cin Drallig was a master in every form I believe, which earned him the rank of Battlemaster. In one of the Star Wars novels, it is wrote about Anakin’s assault on the temple, and how Anakin struggled against Cin Drallig, and instead ordered clone troopers to shoot him while in a blade lock. If the clones had not ambushed all the other Jedi, no amount of skill could save Anakin at all. Had Master Shaak Ti been alerted, she would’ve probably posed the same threat as Cin Drallig. The point is, without clones Anakin would never have stood a chance.

First off, all the popular and well known Jedi were spread all over the galaxy. So there was no point in showing the audience how Anakin kills a majority of Jedi never shown in the movies before. It was also pretty effective drama-wise. Less explicit material leaves room for imagination. I think the temple scene was one of the best and most powerful scenes in the prequels.

You clearly have no idea. You have to make the story not too abstract, but also not too obvious. It's obvious that he killed all the Jedi masters there, so there's no need to show it.

All he did was just kill some people (that the audience wasn't even attached to), and that would've gotten boring after a few minutes. The little snapshot we got while Yoda and Obi-Wan were watching the security tapes was enough to make the audience understand what really happened there.

Nope, you're talking about Jar Jar Abrams who single-handedly destroyed Star Wars by pandering to fans who have no concept of great film making. This is why Lucas's Star Wars films were a trillion times better than anything Disney could ever come up with. Lucas knows the history and mechanics of film making and good story telling. He studied the works of Joseph Campbell and Akira Kurosawa. He made movies that were original and had depth to them, unlike Jar Jar Abrams who just fucking stole and copied everything Lucas created.

It's not only that. They held him back and later, wanted him to spy on a dear friend, Palpatine. The Jedi became hypocrites, more generals than peace keepers. Their very rules were ridiculous. Anakin married in secret because of those rules and feared that his children would be taken by the Jedi, away from him and Padme, the offspring of the "Chosen one". He attacked Windu because he turned his back on the Jedi way, because he was about to eliminate the only chance of saving his wife. After Windu died Anakin was scared what the Jedi would do to him, after this betrayal. They would never forgive him for this. The Jedi turned their back on the present, they sticked to their old ways blindly while following a corrupted senate corrupting themselves as well. They became more and more involved in politics. The Jedi Council did indeed held back other jedi, that way they stayed in power. Just like my Sith Inquisitor said - Jedi masters surrounded by their slave padawans. All in the name of "Order". There is no emotion? The Jedi are nothing more than robots, creatures without any emotions. The Sith are better, sure, they can be cruel, but at least they follow their heart and embrace their emotions, the thing that makes us alive. We should use the Force to better ourselves, not slaving to it, always relying on it's will for our lives and outcomes. Like the Bendu said "Perhaps it's the will of the Force that the Jedi would perish." The Jedi are slaves to the Force, refusing to see it's full aspect - dark and light, they don't understand the Force. And despite their efforts to serve the Force, the Force casted them away. It's good that they died.

The surviving jedi would most likely try to escape as quick as possible before sidious sends another wave of troops. Afterward Sidious would probaly start a search for a new apprentice, however one can argue that if Obi wan went along with Yoda to fight Sidious they might be able to kill him. But it wouldn't solve much as Sidious would become a martyr and would most likely be replaced with another chancellor that now hates the jedi.

If he finds it then he'd have no reason to turn because he has the source and no longer needs palpatine, however if he didn't he would most likely turn and the events as we know would happen.

bluehavencd they also told obi wan to spy on him , that may have also been a test to see Aniakin reaction, I don't blame the Jedi necessarily for it. Aniakin should have known with time.he would get to master, if he kept going. He proved to Mace Windu what Mace most likely already thought. It makes sense for Mace to investigate Aniakin, rather than to blindly hand off the torch to someone you have doubts in. As far as the JEDI way goes.

[@urjnlegend] Well to be fair the coucil's distrust of anakin is exactly what facilitated sidious' manipulations and his eventual turn to the darkside, it was a self-fulfilling prophecy of sorts. Anakin was reckless but also principled and idealistic to a fault, and you can only antagonize someone or act in an identifiably distrustful manner so many times before he starts to distrust you as well. In that regard mace windu was the straw that broke the camel's back, as anakin basically delivered the sith lord to him on a silver platter (proving for certain that he was and always had been loyal to the order and the republic despite their disagreements), only to witness him ignore the 'jedi way' when he deemed it necessary. Not to mention they had anakin act as a spy, all the while observing him in the same manner as they wanted him to observe sidious. Despite his faults, I believe the rift between anakin and the council that allowed sidious' manipulations was mostly one of the council's making.

@Adeum Deus , if you follow the Clone War novels, The Jedi Order was tearing itself apart over the War. Dozens of knight and padaws were walking away and a few of them were joining the senators for more peaceful or military actions. Ten years ago I was reading over the wookie/ wiki pages the Jedi were spliting into close to ten different sects over the War. Palps could have retire for a few years on his home planet Naboo and played with Ainakin's children. Watch the Jedi "try" to clean up the mess, only to get called back into Office. It was his game.

They basically put the "Master and Apprentice" part aside, and just spoke like pals, with Anakin finally owning up to his frustrations, while Kenobi praised his student glowingly. Yeah, I somehow don’t think that Skywalker was too deep in the Dark Side by the raid of the Jedi Temple.

May I interject here, if Yoda or Kenobi wasn’t away, Windu, Kenobi and Yoda would have been informed of Palpatine by Anakin. The massacre would had never happen, for two reasons, Kenobi and Windu are both combat Jedis to begin with, with Yoda capabilities in sensing the dark force is clouded, but he can sense forces his familiar with, over extreme distances. Kenobi would have definitely accompanied Windu to arrest Palpatine, not sure if Yoda would have gone as well. If they had stayed, the result would change drastically every step of the way : - with Anakin never reported to Windu, but to Kenobi. - Palpatine might not have been aggressive if Kenobi was present. - Windu would still be alive. - Anakin never joined dark side. - Order 66 never activated. - Yoda could have sense massive army of clones headed towards them(Yoda is almost always at the temple). - Kenobi neutralising Anakin threat along with other jedis giving Kenobi total victory(if Yoda involved the temple would still fall but Anakin would have died or captured, and it won’t be a massacre). The result of just having Kenobi and Yoda changes massively.

That's like promoting someone just because you feel bad for them instead of assessing the situation of what could go wrong. The guardians escorted the younglings and left a few other their own to hold off the 501st, most of the Jedi actually in the temple refused to leave and fought alongside the security force which was a mix of Jedi and non-force sensitive security. Also there were many more Jedi aside from those two forces that participated, everyone from the fucking librarians (Jedi consulars) to Jedi trainers fought, i've always found it odd that they basically all got wrecked.

Yoda said it himself that Obi-Wan was not powerful enough to take on Sidious. And Anakin would've been outclassed and killed by Yoda.

If Yoda had given the order to Obi-Wan to go and confront Sidious but use his immense ability with the form technique of Soresu to keep Sidious busy until Yoda could finish with Anakin then I don't think the empire would last very long. The Sith would be defeated. Kenobi's skill with Soresu should not be underestimated. Even with 4 lightsabers, Grievous was forced to employ guerrilla tactics against Kenobi.
