On 30th August 1659, Aurangzeb, one of four sons of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, decisively ended the struggle for the throne by defeating and putting to death his eldest brother Dara Shikoh. Aurangzeb got his brother Dara Shikoh beheaded over his religious beliefs despite Dara Shukoh having brilliance as a poet, writer, and philosopher, Dara Shikoh could not seize the throne. Aurangzeb, with his ruthless ambition, claimed the 'Peacock Throne' instead. Dara Shikoh, the flag bearer of religious tolerance at the time, had translated the Bhagavad Gita along with 52 Upanishads from Sanskrit to Persian, and in his treatise, Majma-ul-Bahrain, held forth the similarities between Sufi and Vedantic doctrines. He was known for his intellectual pursuits, particularly his interest in Sufism and his efforts to bridge the gap between different religious traditions. However, Dara Shikoh's support for religious tolerance and his association with Sufi mystics alienated his younger brother, Aurangzeb, who was more conservative in his religious views. The Mughal family had a dark past, with sons overthrowing their fathers, daughters facing imprisonment for backing the wrong brother, and children being held hostage. The poet, writer, architect, philosopher, and artist that he was, Dara could not manage to win the Game of Thrones despite his father Shah Jahan's blessings. He was executed by Aurangzeb in 1659, but his legacy as a scholar and a proponent of religious tolerance continues to be celebrated. This detailed account of the Mughal History is useful for the students of UPSC, MPSC, TNPSC, APPSC, KPSC, BPSC, Railway Exams, IPS, IAS, IRS exams, and other Indian Government Examinations. The Characters in this story are Aurangzeb, Jahanara, Malik Jivan, Dara Shukoh aka Dara Shikoh, Shah Jahan Khurram, Murad Baksh, Shah Shuja, etc. This story is set in Medieval India in the seventeenth century when India was under the rule of the Mughal Empire, Nizamshahi Ahmednagar Kingdom, and Qutbshahi Kingdom at Golconda. The death of Dara Shikoh at the hands of Aurangzeb is also covered by BBC Hindi, TV9 Bharatvarsh, Rakkht by Epic Channel, NDTV India, Dhruv Rathee, Nitish Rajput, Upanishad Ganga, etc. Dara Shikoh Grave has been a subject of dispute and its location has not been identified.

That's a good suggestion! We would definitely make one or more videos dedicated to the History of Ahom Kingdom during this period, especially highlighting their successful resistance against the mighty Mughals!

Around the timeline this was happening the need of warrior emperors started to diminish as we can see in world history. Dara being a reformist would have put a good foundation for future emperors and put the vital trust of Hindu populace in the Mughal empire avoiding Maratha uprising and ultimately colonization. Well there can be many factors that could have changed this course for the better or worse but for that crucial time of transition into medival to early morden period, Dara would have surely been better than Aurangzeb.

This is well put! The West was undergoing this transition. Galileo was put to death around the same time (died in 1642 - less than 20 years before Dara) for speaking against orthodox Christian beliefs. But West was already on its way to modernity, while India had to be pushed into it by the colonizers
