I am a 4 time cancer survivor, including breast cancer and a weird cartilage cancer. My surgeon recommended genetic testing and discovered I have the Brac 2 gene. I would suggest genetic testing as there may be a mutation that can be targeted with immunotherapy. I hope this helps.

Oh my goodness! Sorry you had to go through so much but wonderful that you made it through it all! That does my heart good to hear of so many people that have made it through these challenges. And thank you for the information. The genetic testing was mentioned to us way in the beginning and for us to think about. Hugs to you and I hope things are going well for you. 💞🙏

Excellent advice - genetic testing can help your doctors determine the best treatments for you but also allow you to tell your relatives, especially your children, of genetic risks that they should, with their doctors, manage.

As someone much older than you, I go to my doctor regularly and the first question asked is, has anything changed since you were last here? If I had your symptoms, I have trained physician to help me. I don’t want to preach, but for anyone out there watching this, don’t wait and try to self diagnose. Some cancers grow quickly and catching it early can save your life.

So true. I had been going to the doctor every year and around 50 years old stopped thinking why go if I'm feeling healthy. And with this, I was feeling good except for having to go to the bathroom a lot but I thought it might be my diet so tried changing that up. Lesson learned. I should have gone sooner. Hopefully my telling my story will alert others to go to their doctor if there is anything out of the norm.

@@jenny_ricehey there, I hadn't had a mammogram in 10 years! Oops! They caught it before it left my breast, but im getting chemo, just to kill any escape cells from the tumor. I hear chemo will kick my butt, but im in good shape right now, so I'm up for the challenge. Don't worry about anything but getting that protein and your greens! Will that cure cancer? Oh hell, I don't know, I'm just doing what I'm told. But I do like a nice steak, once in awhile, with a big green salad! Fight on everybody, who cares how you got it? Youre doing your best thats all that matters!❤

@@jenny_riceit's hard when something like this just creeps up on you, like a frog in a pot of water that warms till it's boiling. I went thru that as I began going #2 more frequently and it got looser and my doc insisted it was dairy even though I had very little if ever and the excessive trips to the bathroom were consistent from day to day. I eventually had a colonoscopy as I had reached 50 years old, and they said all was fine! When I quit gluten about 2 years later I was cured! I was lucky it wasn't cancer, but I totally understand how it sneaks up on you and how we keep trying to solve the issue, sometimes with doctors, sometimes without doctors. Sometimes when we solve issues on our own it bolsters our confidence that we can sort ourselves out 🤷‍♀️

Hi Jenny, my daughter is a breast cancer survivor and she was so brave and courageous going through her surgery that she said…..what choice do I have…I want to live. Her two boys were young at the time. And the same goes for you….you did what you had to do to live and it will get better and you will have your life back. Both you and my daughter are stronger than you think. There is that saying about courage that goes……Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is that quiet voice at the end of the day saying “I will try again tomorrow.” Listening to your story I was shocked at how long it took you to see a doctor with all those symptoms you had. But like you said it is what it is and you are going to be fine! As far as wondering how you got cancer my theory is that we all have dormant cancer cells in us, and we will probably never know my they become active in some people and not others. But that’s just me… So take care of yourself and have a healthy and happy Easter. Talk to you soon, Dolores. 🥰💐🥕🐰

I've seen your videos where you've talked about your daughter's breast cancer. As I started this journey I thought about all the people I knew that had been through some type of cancer and made it through. Your daughter was one of them. I'm so happy things worked out well for her. And exactly - want to live, so I will do what I have to do. And, I, too have heard that we all have cancer cells inside us and sometimes they "turn on". So I will keep fighting the good fight. Thank you again for your words of encouragement. Have a wonderful Easter! 💞🐇

Listening to your story raises an alarm for me. I've been told i have irritable bowel disease. The frequent stools, mostly diarrhea. Bad cramping in my intestines. And it is so draining on my energy. I have a colonoscopy every 5 yrs unless they find polyps , then its every 3 yrs. I just had mine 2 weeks ago so im waiting on results of the biopsies. I would be happy to take a daily pill if it would calm my intestines & relieve the pain & cramping. Im hoping i get a good report. Last year was pretty rough. I even went to the ER for abdominal pain. I think if they can send a man to the moon they should have some answers for this condition. I pray for your healing. Thank you for sharing your story. When your GI doc was first prescribing Advil, did they ever suggest a colonoscopy? My mom had all of these same symptoms for several years and refused to have a routine colonoscopy - which we all should have starting at age 50. Unfortunately, by the time she finally agreed to be scoped, it wa too late. My brothers and I now get our colonoscopies as suggested. We each have had polyps removed during our procedure. As for causes, it can be genetic.
@jenny_rice

I'm sorry about your mom. When I saw the GI doctor the first thing he told me was that I needed a colonoscopy. Then he told me to up the Advil from 2 pills to 3 pills every 6 hours and that worked to keep the rectum pain at bay. Unfortunately, I did not have my colonoscopy at 50. I kept putting it off. I don't know whether that would have helped or not as I didn't start having symptoms until I was 54. But, yes, better to have the colonoscopy when you're supposed to. 💞

My brother is a radiation oncologist. He says that most cancers are completely random. You didn't do anything to cause your cancer, nor did your father do anything to cause his. Only 10% of cancers have an inherited component. The HPV vaccine will prevent cervical cancer,anal cancer, and throat cancer, but most rectal cancer is not caused by HPV (the exception is squamous cell rectal cancer, which is caused by HPV). The only thing that we can do to prevent cancer, is to get our HPV vaccines. But that most likely would not have helped in your case. Unfortunately, cancer simply occurs, and more often when we are over 50.

They stuck the tube in, taped a bag to my leg, and sent me on my way. I had no idea what was happening. I didn't even know how to empty the blasted thing. They expected me to drive 500km to my isolated, northern community and somehow figure it out. I assumed I could go to my local hospital for advice. I don’t know what it is exactly but just listening to you is comforting. I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I want you to know that you’re absolutely brave and I admire you. Jenny your channel is absolutely what makes RU-vid my favorite place to take my mind away from my terrible place, I just play one of your videos and I feel comfort, don’t know but it’s real
