How did Sarasota Florida Survive Hurricane Ian?
While areas such as Naples and Fort Meyers have been devasted, Sarasota Florida faired extremely well. Siesta Key, Longboat Key, St. Armands Key, and downtown Sarasota had very minimal damage. East Sarasota in the Myakka area suffered severe flooding from the Myakka River and south Sarasota County down in North Port also suffered severe flooding.

I live about a mile from the Gulf on mainland Sarasota. The winds we experienced were 75-100mph gusts which ripped apart a metal cyclone fence hurling the vertical bar across the street like a javelin. Sarasota was luck with Ian being on the left side of it.

There's a sign outside one of my windows to indicate you're coming up on a roundabout. I would occasionally peek out to see how badly it was shaking during the storm. Until I want to look and notice that it was just plain gone. I have no idea where it went.

I haven't been out there yet, but I believe there weren't any issues with Skye Ranch from the hurricane. It was far enough south.
