Lovely house. Side note... Solomon's younger brother, Benjamin, went down with the Titanic in 1912.

What I wouldn't do for a tour! The Guggenheims get overlooked when it comes to the most important business families of The Gilded Age, but in some ways, they are even more important than the Vanderbilts and the Astors, and are at least as important to our national cultural life as The Rockefellers. Thanks for another amazing video, Ken!

There are not many brick homes where I live, so I've only recently seen (online video tours) homes with colored brick. This must have been stunning. I like the whole restrained Mediterranean vibe, and the extra artistic touches, such as the iron grille, fancy unique door surrounds, and the paneling in that room. There is something more 'grounded' in the feel of this home, which I greatly prefer to the slick marble and gold everything in many of the Gilded Age mansions. I'm happy to hear that the building is still in use, though from the aerial photo the footprint appears different. I'll have to check it out. Thanks, Ken. :)

There is another house that was purchased by Solomon Guggenheim around 1900, it was located on Ocean Ave in Elberon NJ, and known as Aladdin's palace. He summered there with his wife Mary. He had three brothers who also had summer residences in Elberon. Mary was forced from the house for unpaid property taxes circa 1940, and the house was demolished almost immediately afterwards. I would love it if you could find more information about this place. Thanks.

I would say the music room, but it was highly philanthropic to open his NYC showing his new acquisitions by appointment. Glad the building has been used in stead of being torn down.

I loved the idea of using imperfect and distressed bricks.... But my favourite area would have to be hallway with the wrought iron gate, the checkered floor and limestone walls. I'm sure the staircase must have been quite impressive as they usually are... Did I miss that in the clip? 🤔

Check out the English Inn in Eaton Rapids, MI. I think it was built by the general manager of Oldsmobile and then passed to the Catholic Church and now is a B&B. It’s gorgeous. I had my wedding there. It’s on the Grand River.

Peggy Guggenheim’s Venetian home on the Grand Canal is in my top 3 museums. It’s a house museum, and when one walks inside, there is a Calder mobile in the vestibule. The only object in the vestibule. It’s timeless. And the guggenheims saved modern art from Nazis by secretly transporting it out of Europe. Peggy is a hero on non-objective art/

I love looking at floor plans, but their quality is sometimes terrible, as in this case. Is there any way you can enhance them?

I enhanced them, the problem is that they were scanned from a 100+ year old magazine. If I ever find a cleaner/better preserved copy I’ll make sure to post it in the community tab.

Villa carola would look amazing in colour footage, I don't think you really get a full understanding of it in black-and-white. Maybe this is another one that you could have applied your AI colouring skills to!
