Daewoo - great name in South Korea - many prominent industry it has. Apart from Daewoo Motor, Daewoo has very significant shipbuilding industry in South Korea. Tata, is pioneer in steel industry in India and one of the largest manufacturer of iron and steel in India, should have initiated shipbuilding industry in India with the help / collaboration of Daewoo almost a decade back.

Tata bought the commercial vehicle division not the whole Daewoo. Daewoo Motor Co, the passenger vehicle branch which made Cielo and Matiz was bought by General Motors. Chevrolet Spark (known by Chevrolet Beat in US) was launched as the successor of Matiz.

Daewoo motors was the bane of whole Daewoo group, this obsession of Daewoo founder to succeed in cars made the whole group crumble. But I guess most strategic daewoo shipbuilding was saved in this whole carnage and is still one the biggest shipbuilding yard of world.

Tata must have to accur Daewoo's passenger cars unit from GM Korea as early as possible because their R&D department is very strong in state of that art designing concepts & their products r very reliable, updated(technology advanced), ragged, luxurious, sporty & value for money so what's more you want from a manufacturer? it's a win win situation for Tata and Daewoo for the joint production of their passenger cars in India and the countries where Daewoo is officially active. GM owns Daewoo passenger vehicle division now , Tata can't buy it unless GM wants to sell it. And imo GM would want to part with an important part of their business in Korea. PS: it's rugged and not 'ragged' .

I have been driving cars for almost 14-15 years now. I remember our first car was a second hand dewoo matiz. I learned driving a car with matiz. It is still special to my heart. I had so many wonderful trips with my family and college friends at that time in this car. And I am glad that Tata bought it and they are running the company successfully. And what a coincidence I also own Tiago AMT currently 😅 Its a small world 😄

GM Korea ceased production of the Spark in August of 2022, we have a 2014 model we bought new and have found it to be a good automobile. I have not heard if there will be a replacement.

There's also a reason for that ..watch some videos and you will get to know ...because all the companies are cutting carbon emissions they(tata) have to move towards electric smelting, so to convert on such big scale a package is needed from the government (France and other eu governments are giving) but U.k is not . That's why they are closing down their UK plant( and to convert - is mandatory by the government)
