Hello everybody! Welcome to the start of a new series where I break down how all 1008 current Pokémon might be related to each other. We're covering the basics and the origins of the universe for this one.

As someone who hasn't paid attention to any pokemon lore since Ruby & Sapphire, this was quite interesting.

Great vid, looking forward to the rest of it. Only real stretch I would say is Heatran because while it is said to be an embodiment of the earth's core, A more realistic explanation is they are formed from extreme pressure and depth and then eventually makes its way to the surface over long periods of time due to tectonic activity.

Another great video! I can’t wait to see the rest of the series and I really wonder where you will put Celebi because of how it travels across time and everything

I’m here after hearing that you’re benching this series indefinitely for now - I know its gonna cook so hard once you’re able to get back to it though!! And to anyone who sees this comment - he’s going to be releasing a huge Pokemon iceberg sometime in the next couple of months, so theres gonna be more pokemon stuff and imm hypeee

I’m excited to see where this goes! Although I have some different head canons, I do like your interpretation of Mew. Something I often think about is the Pokédex casually dropping the information that Boldore actively searches for and needs to drink water. I think it might be a 50/50 as to whether that means it’s not actually a rock and is some sort of arthropod, or that all Pokémon (even ones that’re seemingly made entirely out of non living material) are made out of flesh. Of course things like Snorunt getting all their nourishment from eating snow could throw a wrench in that… unless it’s just a misinterpretation of them shoveling snow away from lichen, or maybe they eat algae within the ice 👀

I know this video didn't perform well, which is a crime, but I was really looking forward to the rest of this series. Any chance you are still going to continue?

How would you consider Egg-Groups in your approach to phylogenetic categorization? Considering that all pokemon are undeniably egg-laying species (on top of all being capable of locomotion and heterotrophs, placing them solely in the animal kingdom), the way they're able to reproduce with other species should have some weight in how they can be categorized. This could even be the only glimpse to a Pokemon's Genotype we could get. With that in mind, one could put the Riolu Line close to the Buneary Line for having a similar body-plan throughout its development and sharing two Egg-Groups (Riolu is in the undiscovered group, but gains the Field and Human-like Egg-groups as Lucario)

It seems to me that Pokémon simply don't follow our real-world definition of a "species", which is already kind of tenuous. Plus, there is a lot of overlap, as many Pokémon have two (often unrelated) Egg Groups. This series is also about investigating real-world biology through a Pokémon lens, so I'm excited to talk about the real-world tree of life even if it doesn't always align with conceptions of Pokémon lore.

it’s called diagrams.net (alternatively draw.io). you can install it as an extension of google drive. i find it very easy to use!

If some Pokemon are created by natural aspects of the universe then does that mean arceus was created by the universe hmm created by the universes natural force of creation. maybe all pokemon are inevitable and meant to be. If there is something that exists then they will exist to represent it. Or maybe forces and things exist to represent pokemon lol

I think the Tao trio really should be put in the extraterrestrial group, maybe you’ll explain your reasoning better in the follow ups but I feel like the reasoning you gave here was pretty weak, plenty of other aliens look similar to dragons despite being definitively aliens (Such as King Ghidorah from Godzilla and the more relevant, Ultra Necrozma). Also the dragon being split up could be a property of It’s alien world rather than something divine

Fuecoco is not a reptile... not in phylogenetic, its a crocodilian, not the same thing... but okay

Actually, crocodilian are nearest to bird than reptile, you should have just take like any other reptile pokemon for reptile, like Treecko😬 sorry my biologist ass cringe a little bit at it

Crocodilians are still reptiles! I am going to touch on paraphyletic groups in the next episode, such as Reptilia. That diagram was meant to be just a basic illustration.
