My wife does that with quilts. Who would have guessed some 90 year old mostly ragged hand sewn quilt from an estate sale might be a gem if you figure out how to market it. Plus the hunt is endless and fun.

I started buying & selling automobilia back in the mid-70's, mostly through Hemmings Motor News. When Ebay came along, I jumped into it much more seriously for several years, to support my "Iron Trap" addiction. Like you, I found the adrenalin rush, the thrill of the hunt, was whay motivated me, more than the money. Great to hear about your journey and comparing it to my own. Love the podcasts !

That was really interesting. I had no idea (very young) Matt was an international hustler of car parts. My only request for the next podcast is Matt repeat the exploration of a randomly-grabbed vintage Hot Rod magazine.

I am really interested to hear about your concept for the '39 Mercury. The ability to watch that car transform into your vision would be nothing short of amazing. Please include a segment in a future podcast about the custom car scene of the 50's and how you both would see the Mercury as a finished custom. Excited !!!

My father-in-law had a tire dealership and gas station stating in 1919. Throughout his business life he would go to recycle yards and build piles of tires. He would offer a set price for the pile and fill his truck. Taking the used tires he would clean them up and sell them as used tires. During WarII tires were scares but he would find them and he stated to do the same with bicycles. The bicycle business kept him in business during the war.

I live 500 miles north of the Canadian border. I was on ebay in 99. It changed my life for building cars. I was selling $40 rear-end center sections for $1100. Buying parts I could not get. I had a US postal space even that i would go down to every 4-6wks. I sold things in American dollars and was buying parts in Canadian. Now I've got so much that I just build and scads of stuff. Time is my value now.

Back around 1959 I had a friend that was working in the auto body shop of a Ford dealership and he was into model A's, He found out from a friend of his who worked in the parts department that they were getting rid of all their old model a parts so he went to the owner and asked if he could buy some of the parts and the owner told him no. So the owner had one of the guys that worked in the shop destroy all the parts and then take them to the dump. It was a shame because there was a lot of new old stock stuff but they would not sell him any of it and they knew he was into Model A's ,we were just young kids then.

ello from germany here. ...nothern germany was always full of US cars and dealers, due to the fact that most of the stuff arrives at Hamburg( germanies biggest overseas harbor)...if you wanted to buy a new harley in the 80s here... you had to go there. There was only 1 harley dealer in whole germany at the time.... Bockhorn is the nearby swapmeet

May be a point of interest to you... Back in the day the outfit I was working for leased the old Patriot News building at 10th & Market Street's in Harrisburg. The interior layout of structural posts and the posts themselves were so identical to your warehouse that I would bet that, at minimum, the same architect, and possibly the same builder, were involved with both buildings. Also, you mentioned the crew chief of Bruce Larson in regard to the Pittsburgh buy. Would that have been Maynard Yingst?

It's an interesting economy, one guy strips and sells all the parts off a car, another guy buys the shell and then hunts down and buys all the parts to put it back together, lol. It's a lot of fun for sure.

2 days ago I found a 29 pro built roadster p/u and its trophies jammed in an old garage covered with house junk, cobwebs and dust since 81 a block from my house. Widow said it got parked because the hydramatic quite reverse. I'm 71, all bays already occupied and don't have much money but its exciting like finding a treasure and just gotta do it. Are we defective?

Now that was fun. The pos casts are interesting. When see a video is more than about 45 minutes I think. OMG-Ain’t nobody got time fo dat! Some creators just edit less and go for longer content to increase income. This one was longer but it was interesting in that it tells a story. Anyway-watched it all and had fun. Someday I’ll send you an email on how I came across a guy with a Jeepster for sale and it turned into a Willys NOS parts bonanza. He had some Model A parts as well. I need to cry uncle and just send them to you.

One of my uncles had a auction that I knew that there was stuff that I wanted ! But the item would end up being added to something else in order to get someone bid more on something ! Sadly the item that I wanted got thrown into the trash bin ! No one was allowed to take anything out of the trash bin ! It made very very angry about it because that item that I wanted was something that I had given him many years ago ! It got to where I quit going to family estate auctions because of it ! I know of many items that not only I wanted but other family members wanted that ended up bought by someone else and thrown away !

...coming from a different area of reselling (vinyl before it was called vinyl) and being a stock rotation fiend, can I suggest date stamping all items and having set in concrete valid as stock date..."it's been here a year...out it goes" type of thing....let the numbers make the decisions for you and not your memory or hunch that it will sell eventually....I used to work in a place where they went..."but it might sell next year"...and that just builds a picked over/dead inventory!!...

Not at all. There’s so much of this stuff out there we just look at what others have asked or sold an item for. We also usually sell it for under what the last sold price was to make it move quick.
