How did The Ottomans reach Indonesia in the 16th Century?
During the 16th century, the Ottoman Turks formed a somewhat unlikely alliance with the Sultanate of Aceh, all the way over in the Indonesian archipelago. The friendship was a bit unusual given the fact that the Ottomans, at that time, had only really extended their authority as far as parts of the Arabian Peninsula in the direction of Aceh. Additionally, even to reach Aceh from the Arabian Peninsula itself, despite Constantinople being much farther northwest, the Ottomans would’ve had to cross the Arabian Sea, through the Laccadive Sea, and into the Indian Ocean.

As an Acehnese myself, thank you very much for such a quality content. Fun fact you can actually see one of the surviving Ottoman-made cannons in the local museum, letters from the Sultanate to various monarchs, Ottoman gold coins, and other various Ottoman legacies here. Even the Acehnese flag, Alam Peudeung Mirah (roughly means the world's red sword) was greatly influenced by the sword, moon and crescent of the former Ottoman Empire!

The Ottoman legacy can still be seen in modern Malay states such as the use of crescent and star in their state flags and using the sultan title and many more inherited (Clothes[Songkok],Laws,Architecture,Weapons etc)from the lasting friendship with the Ottoman Empire.
@harku123

@@hazat8123 you're right that it's not necessarily an Islamic symbol because it was originally designed and used in the original Greek colony of byzantium but that was almost a millennium before the Ottoman empire even existed so it's not an "ottoman symbol" but it's predominantly used as a symbol for Islam and the ottomans used it and because they were so big, they were the ones seen using it most, hence it's mostly associated with Ottomans/Turks

THE TURKS AND THE WEST. Europe stood in awe of the Ottomans who crushed many states and conquered vast territories, going, as all patriotic Turks will proudly point out, "all the way to the gates of Vienna." European literature is replete with the depictions of the Turk as the hated enemy. The English often thought of the Turk as awe-inspiring and destructive. Thomas Fuller wrote in The Holy Warre (1639): "The Turkish Empire is the greatest... the sun ever saw. ...Grass springeth not where the grand signior's horse setteth his foot." At the time, the Ottoman Empire ruled large parts of south-east Europe, north Africa and western Asia. It is said that François I, King of France, was gifted Turkish armour by Suleiman the Magnificent (the tenth and most famous sultan of the Ottoman Empire) during their alliance. However, after Aceh became part of Indonesia, the consequences of excessive exploitation of Aceh's natural resources by Indonesia were also decades of war between the aceh guerrillas and the Indonesian army which resulted in suffering and poverty making Aceh today one of the lagging provinces in Indonesia. Ottomans had strange relations with most Muslim and Christian states. Essencially they never had real motive for annexation or conquest of some state when things were easier with indirect formal rule (protectorate or vassalage), which in turn was a way cheaper option than maintaining direct ruled province. Only when those type of relations were endangered and disturbed by appetites of some new next solid enemy, then they took percursive actions for direct and complete anexation only to secure its territorial flanks and borders. One of many such examples is Kingdom of Hungary which was completely defeated in Battle of Mohacs in 1526, but not destroyed at all, only changed one ruler and dinasty (Catholic), with it’s own (Protestant) ruler and dinasty instead of creating annexed province. Only after Habsburgs started in 1528 serious incursions in ill defined limmits in Ottoman-Habsburg spheres in Hungary, in 1541 Ottomans were forced to annex 1/3 of vassal Hungary which was under direct danger of incursions, while the other 1/3 remained rump but still a vassal state, a smaller version of now ex vassal Hungary known as Principality of Erdel (Transylvania) was created in 1570. This shows that Ottomans even when they were a serious superpower of its time, tried with all costs to avoid illogical and expensive vast adventourous expansions. If we see things objectively without religious bias, then First Siege of Vienna 1529 was not a total conquering ‘jihadi’ expedition but a (failed) punitive expedition to stop Habsburg incursions in vassal Hungary, and the Second Siege of 1683 was a conquering (again failed) expedition to finally secure its direct domination of Hungary, as they did previously secured their direct domination of Balkans defeating Kingdom of Hungary itself in Mohacs. And even in hypotetical eventual successful Ottoman siege of Vienna, instead of annexing it they most likely only would try to change the (Catholic) ruling dinasty of HRE (Germany) with some Reformed (Protestant) one.

So dit the Venetians with the Ottomans and Mamluks. The Portuguese upheld good relationship with the Mughals. England was overly protective of Zanzibar and the Sultanate of Oman. The only moment conflict really arose between the West and the Islamic world had to do with abolitionism and cossair piracy. Not to mention all the benefits that came with European imperialism. They only lose because of betrayal by chinese and indian merchants, the malaccan navy...even then Portuguese conquered just one city which turned to fortress. They didn't dare to venture out of their fortress and stay put inside...they just want trade routes only...besides, Malaccan sultan blundered when he started the whole mess by capturing Portuguese merchants when they didn't do anything wrong. That gave the Portuguese the justification to capture the city...if only they were smart and play their games a bit longer, an invasion could be avoided...
