When Nimble reached out to me about their upcoming Kickstarter campaign, I saw that their goals were:
-Faster, more tactical combat
-Minimizing tedious waiting, wasting turns, needless bookkeeping
-Maximizing Player and DM agency with meaningful, interesting choices
To me, this sounded too good to be true. Lets find out this week if they did it!!!!!!!

Nimble's got some good videos on this. I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole thing. I love what I've seen so far, but there's a lot more to come apparently. And yes, modularity *is* a word. It's the reason the old adventures were called modules; they were interchangeable and could fit into any campaign or setting. Matt Colville had a recent video about it in fact.

The dying condition is absolutely a huge upgrade. Players doing nothing is awful, and now having the ability for a downed pc to appear behind the bbeg, with his sword coming out their chest, is so much more cinematic. I've played a little of the combat, with people that were resistant, but after a couple crits, they were loving it. Still have to try it in a real session (using this armor setup though, barbarian rage becomes the same as heavy armor, if I am understanding it correctly)

You could also limit the maximum number of crits to your level. Level 1 can only crit once in a row. Level 4 up to 4 in a row.

06:10 re: dagger crits Remember, that 1 in 4 chance of critting really just means 25% (well, really 18.75%) of the time a dagger is as deadly as a long sword (and that remaining 6.25% is as deadly as a great axe - which, again, is really roughly ~4.69% because there's that bit where it crits again, but that 1.56ish% is less frequent and less powerful than the 8.3% of the time a great axe crits and rolls a whole new d12...). Long story short, cascading dagger crits happen infrequently enough that it's cool without being game breaking.

Yep, it's mathematically like a +0,05 damage but it's fun, best case

@@d_camaraunless you're a smiting paladin or a Sneak attacking rogue. Daggers are broken for them.

I have seen a weapon quality system where did the damaged dice get advantage or disadvantage depending on the quality of the weapon. A goblins crappy dagger would make him roll the D4 twice and take the lower. While a professional with a high quality dagger would roll 2D 4 and take the higher. I think these systems could synergize quite well.

This just might be the thing I am looking for! Im DMing my last 5E game and moving to more streamlined and narrative focused systems. But if Nimble can fix most of the issues that I have with 5E, then I will highly reconsider continuing to DM for 5E. I backed the Kickstarter and looking forward to trying it out.

@@LeFlamel On the other hand, I stay far away form D&D 5e as much as possible... but something like this that actually targets it's blatant design flaws rather than pretending like they're not a big deal? I could work with this.

I just backed the kickstarter. Got the $25 level which means I will receive 5 printed copies. This way I can just give one out to my entire table when we play.

When playing Earth Dawn years ago, a character with a d4 damage dagger kept open ending and rolled a total of 72 points of damage.

this is still one of the best games made. we absolutely enjoyed the fantasy/horror world. the character development and dice table was a well thought out system.

Only 5 mins into the vid discussing combat rolls. Thats an interesting observation, a dagger now has a 25% chance of getting a critical hit scoring 4 damage then rerolling for additional damage with another 25% chance for continuing to "explode" for more damage. This makes d4 weapons the highest chance crit strikers in 5e now. A rogue might actually want to use it now beyond concealment reasons. I hear weapon properties have been changed up but not sure how this impacts daggers hopefully for the better.

This is so cool. I got into DND not too long ago. I love the whole fantasy and adventure aspect of it. Going off on an adventure sounds fun. Unfortunately the math can be a bit of a slog. I struggled to learn it as a begginner. Now I understand how it works. I still think it is excessively convoluted and clunky. I like how this video is about streamlining the rules of DND in order to make it more fun. I share the same sentiment. The biggest part is how dice rolling on each turn works. I streamlined it by having only damage rolls and having modifiers affect it directly. The damage roll is increased by the user proficiency and ability score. The ability score used depends on the class. It can any one, except constitution. The roll is also reduced by the armor of the opponent. I take armor class and subtract 10. That forms an armor value. This value is subtracted from damage roll. The change to rolls is an interesting houserule to streamline the game. The video has a version that streamlines it even more. That is an interesting idea. It will definitely help for begginers, casuals and children that want to play. Don't make things too complex.

At first i was nerved by the fact that non-legendary monsters dont make opporitunity attacks, but i can see why. What often happens in dnd combat is the players will move to where they want to go against the monsters, and then movement HALTS right there as nobody wants to move at all to avoid opporitunity attacks, making this amorphous blob of minis all scrunched up together on the board. This change means players are likely to manuever around alot more and spice up the gameplay with movement choices.

Very interesting, always looking for something to make the bulk of combats against the fodder much faster saving the more complicated battles for the big baddy at the end. I just backed it at the PDF level and there was no better deal than $4!!! Thank you for the heads up and may the rolls always be in your favor.

Reminds me of my first dm. We had character sheets and a list of spells and items, but otherwise, it was fast and loose 3e. It was 90% Story and 10% roll to see if that dumb idea works 😂😅😊❤

Nice review - I backed the Kickstarter and look forward to the game. I love the "Dungeons & Dragons is 30-minutes of fun spread out over 4-hours" quote - anybody know where that is actually from? Who said it?

I love the nimble rules, but most of them arent very modular like you stated, u start to realize if u do one of them u need to do another and so forth and so on. The example u give of dieing condition, you would then need to take and use the whole 3 AP system as well.

3:37 Swinging a short sword is generally regarded as a weak move, because short swords are designed to be stabbing weapons. Maybe a 1st level fighter would make this mistake 🤔

Important note about this video's sponsor: Nimble 5e has pretty much stolen all of its ideas directly from DC20, a brand-new RPG system that is currently being developed by a youtuber called The Dugeon Coach. The Nimble creator has even stolen graphics directly from the DC20 character sheet. Also, they are removing any negative comments from their video where they pitch their Kickstarter. Incredibly shady and scummy stuff if you ask me. Please do not support people who steal content from other creators. Support DC20 instead! It's still in development, but so far it's looking awesome.

Maybe try a different system if 5E is not working for your table. Totally not for our table. Just play whatever edition you play, use your own house rules and carry on. Rock on and roll them bones.

Full disclosure I am not a fan of this from this snippet my first thought is a book of house rules or a new system entirely which do you want it to be.
@SkittleBombs
@SkittleBombs 7 месяцев назад
Its the same rules as dnd 53 but d20 on attack has been setup to auto hit, and making amount of actions per turn simplified.
@bryandaly8745
@bryandaly8745 7 месяцев назад
@SkittleBombs but the whole point is that it is not the same rules as DnD 5e also it does not auto hit it skews the percentage of success to your hit die you can still very much miss but you also add exploding Dice to unbalance the combat more

This too funny. "You get to roll you damage die again and that's going to continue stacking... you get to keep rolling... 30 points of damage or something crazy" followed by "gets you make attacks quickly and doesn't require a bunch of rolling". Stopped watching after this blatant contradiciton.
