Baldwin street... yeah it is steep, but but its just a street that is steep lol... A while back there was a battle between a street in Scotland and Baldwin St for who had the steepest... and for a while Scotland won it till the resurveyed both streets again and Baldwin St got the title back again. The Catlins is my playground for rides and holidays... and there are some stunning views and sites to see. Glad you got to see the "Purakaunui Falls"... (Best time to see them is just after some rain) ... I have some awesome photo's. The Nuggets are awesome view as well. There are many other hidden gems in the Catlins and you could spend a few days there and still not see them all. ie; Cathedral Caves, Mclean Falls... many hikes or cycling tracks the wild life and there Kayaking trips heaps to do, seeing some of the heritage places... etc... oh... Balclutha... Bell-clue-th-a. But shhhh you not suppose to tell everyone then they will all come here and well we don't want that... Yeah a good old cheese roll doesn't go a miss... ;-) oh candle lite dinner... how romantic... romance died in 1968 when I was born... LOL Season greetings have a good christmas and safe new year

Love watching you two experience New Zealand for the first time. It's like seeing it through new eyes. I didn't appreciate New Zealand's beauty until I traveled overseas and came back. I was like you, wowing at everything I saw. I found parts of Scotland and Ireland reminded me of New Zealand. It felt like, call that a mountain, wait until you see one in New Zealand. We can do that bigger and better.

Hi Liz..Im the guy who found the print of the Moaraki Bolders in Portugal in a Flea shop. We live near the dutch border in the north sea. We have a 2600km drive top get to our holiday house. For any ex kiwis or kiwis living in Europe but feeling a Bit home sick the silver coast north of Lisbon could be the place to visit...the beaches, the 1000s of Pohutukawa trees and Cafés. We have given our tiny garden a kiwi pimp, we planted a Pohutukawa, a tree fern, a feigoa, and a tree tomato!; My wife,her best friend and I did the same tour staying at a motel just across the beach north of Nugget Point...probably our best holiday ever!

I enjoyed this video, especially at 14 minutes when you were doing a piece to camera in that little rest area. Approximately 200 meters along that road on the right is a little blue cottage (almost saw it as camera panned round) The cottage was built by my Dad before I was born as a family holiday home in about 1948/49...we had many years holidaying on that beach and surrounding areas...my first childhood holiday memories are from here and I'm 70 now.. The property was sold when I was about 15 or 16..it had a checkered history, we discovered a bullet lodged in the lounge ceiling one time, after a clean shot from the beach through the front window ...and also after it was sold, during a storm, a large tree crashed through it...I recall seeing it badly damaged and the ceiling was almost at floor level, but it was rebuilt... The lighthouse attracts many visitors, which is the reason the road was sealed only recently...Did you see the seals on the rocks below...or the large sharks waiting to grab one for lunch..? Speaking of which southern Blue Cod at the Kaka Point pub is the ultimate seafood In this area.. I was a bit disappointed you didn't travel right through the Catlins, as the Purakanui falls are just a very small part of it..( you missed the best of it, good excuse to come back...lol.) Yes, I agree that parts of NZ are so much like the UK, especially Scotland..

My sister has worked at the Dunedin Botanical Gardens for 30 years now. My family (and where I grew up) live at the end of the valley if you kept driving past Baldwin st. Todays my 20 anniversary of living in the US so I’m glad you enjoyed your Dunedin visit. The Catlins is a great little area of NZ that not many tourist go to.

Hi,took me a moment or two to workout where you were staying in Port! It's Robyn and Alan's place above the Galley! The church you could see is the church my oldest granddaughter called the 'clock church ' when she was little, my daughter and her husband and kids lived opposite it for a few years

I went to the Catlins many years ago,the woman in the cafe/tourist Centre said its very busy today...I counted 12 people on the beach! I can tell you what cars won't go up Baldwin St,my Ford Falcon!! When I was about 16 I drove up there with a car load of mates,we got halfway up and it stalled because I only had quarter of a tank and the fuel pickup was sucking air,it was a scary reverse with no power assisted brakes or steering. You went through the town I was born in,a little place called Waihola on the Taieri Plain,blink and you may have missed it. Thank you for all your hard work on videos through the year,Merry Xmas to you both and all the whanau!🧑‍🎄

Great vid that, as usual, put me in a good mood! I've only been to Dunedin once and, of course, we drove up that steep street. I was driving a manual rental car and managed to stall it right in front of a bunch of uni students that took great pleasure in giving me a tough time about my lack of driving skills!

Merry Christmas you two! When I first saw the Bell-clue-tha river I thought wow what a mighty river, I almost bought a big old apple shed next to it because I was so mesmerised by it, then I got scared thinking of it washing away in a flood, with me snoring away in it, it was very fast moving. Can't believe they left the crust on those cheese rolls. Loved the night view of Port Chalmers. Wow must be deep right there where the container ship was, wonder if they fish off there, knowing that , if we were there as kids, we'd be diving in there. I can't believe you have only about 4k subscribers, your vlogs are great! Gotta spread the word somehow

When I visited Nugget Point there was a boat feeding albatross or molymawks, difficult to tell at a distance. And just up the coast we came across a load of sealions on the beach.

Gosh, these drives! It seems you pick any old Point A and Point B and just drink in the stunning scenery in between. I couldn't agree more re: how lovely and helpful Kiwis are. I'm in the (looong) process of emigrating to NZ and every single Kiwi, without exception, I've dealt with has been friendly, kind, and genuinely interested in what I'm trying to achieve. Nice! I do enjoy that part of the country more in the summer. That cafe in Port Chalmers is my Twin bro's local eatery.

A joy for fresh eyes on what I used to take for granted - but NO - not the cheese rolls 😂. If you are still in Dunedin try an Asian cuisine restaurant called Spirit House on the Esplanade, St Clair. Do a phone booking and ask for window seating with beach view.

We did our big southern trip a few years ago and the best thing we did on that trip was to be spontaneous and decided to drive outside of the usual route. And what a surprise and a hidden gem Catlin was and will always be. My international visitors often comment that there are many parts of New Zealand has a feel of their respective homeland. 🙂

Did the cheese rolls have onion in them? Always a big debate about what additions have been made. My personal favourites are the ones made with onion soup. Merry Christmas, I look forward to following more of your adventures in 2022.

The only one I tasted had onion soup in it and I really didn't like it - apparently it was an old Family recipe but yeah as much as this North Islander loves cheese, it's a pass for me on the rolls.

I'll let you into a secret. When I went through Lincolshire, England on the train, the scenery reminded me of NZ. I said to myself, this would not look out of place in NZ. Especially where I grew up. So no I get the comparison with English scenery

If its fundraising season for whatever ever cause and people are selling cheese rolls, normally $6 a dozen I'll buy a few keep them in the freezer, and just get what ones I'll eat that day out but I normally chow through them.

hi guys ,the cheese rolls are a big part of the cafe thing to order when going to a cafe down here in Southland and Otago ,the place you went to is called Balclutha pronounced like Bell - clutha ,looked like another beautiful day you had on your journey down South ,one place i recommend going to if your down this way again and if you have time to go and see is Riverton ,as always love your vlogs , PS : did you guys go to cafe's back at where you came from over in England ?

you asked about whether some cars wouldn't get up it... we tried it my mates 1991 1.1 litre honda city. 2/3 of the way up the steep bit it ran out of pump and stopped and started rolling backwards, we ended up in one of the side gardens lmao
