How Did We Save This Winnebago Roof...or Did We? 2014 Winnegabo Sightseer Roof Replacement

This is part three and the conclusion of replacing the roof on this 2014 Winnebago Sightseer. I did rush past a few steps as I have shown them many times, and tried to highlight the different steps we had to take with this roof. To say we are pleased is a gross understatement, but this was a large task and much larger than we intially planned. Adding support was not in the cards at the begininning but once taken apart, we didn't see a way to salavage the roof without them. I still feel Winnebago has issues they should be addressing. Whether it's the adhesive they are using, the large voids in the foam for wire runs, or a failure to understand the weight of A/C units over time.
Thanks for joining us on yet another Winnebago roof re-build. I suspect there are many more to come.

Thank you James. It’s very interesting to see your fixes and improvements on this roof. Great ideas and they make absolute sense. I’ve owned a 1996 Winnebago ( new) for 10 years and loved it. Now a 2022 Vista. 26,000 miles and very happy with the rest of my coach but I’m now inspecting the roof every couple of months, already re-sealed about 6 ft of edge seal. I live in Arizona, and plan on having you guys inspect it next year. Thanks again. Keep it coming.

Wow James. This owner is so fortunate he has you and Scott fixing this disastrous failure of a roof. You constantly a amaze me watching your videos. It appears to me you are giving him back a better coach than it was new. I always had confidence in this brand but I’m scared to purchase one as a older woman. I have looked at one and the owner could not believe this older woman would walk and then crawl all over the entire roof, check the caulking everywhere, tug on the ac etc. you inspire me.

The James and Chad show. lol You probably are tired of them but I think a few of us are still interested in learning from your experience. Met a 5th wheel on the Interstate the other day the roof was ballooning like crazy. Hope you enjoy your "time off" and have fun what ever you do. I hope your property is coming along well. I had a 71 Winnebago and the roof was the same type of construction as you’re dealing with there only everything was flat on my roof. As it got older it Started to sag again I’m gonna give you the suggestion. You can use your uni strut to make a support like you guys used in the roof and it’s much lighter and white and much easier to handle rather than trying to log in the wood inside and out. But anyway if you check it out you can easily adjust the length of two pieces to get your height you uni strut was really great and it did the job and then . Well here it is many years later I just got a 95 South wind pusher. Most of the manufactures have done a great job of modernizing. Looks Winnie’s need to move forwood too

If expanded polystyrene is in intimate contact with PVC sheathed cables, over time a chemical reaction can draw out the sheath plasticiser to form a sticky layer on the outside of the cable. In many cases as the plasticiser in the cable soaks into the expanded polystyrene it shrinks back. In some cases, it has been reported that the plasticiser migrates out of the PVC, absorbing into and softening the polystyrene which can stick to the PVC sheath, leaving a brittle cable that cracks and splits.

I do not watch too many other channels concerning RVs, but RU-vidrs have to have picked up on this. Great job, good quality video, didn't go over what we have seen before, just a good job with the information. (edit) I am wondering is it the glue or the polystyrene that is failing? If the foam degrades the glue will release as it is just bonding to the outside, or outermost layer. Just wondering

What years did Winnebago make roofs like this, and did they ever make a good roof? We lived 10-12 miles from Forest City Iowa when I was growing up, went by the plants often. The route we used to get there was one of their test routes, was not unusual at all to see motorhomes sitting on the side of the road, or even in the ditch, in various states of disrepair, or destruction. Had to be careful driving by the plant, their chassis storage lot was across the road from the plant, and the drivers that moved them across the highway had no regard whatsoever for any traffic in the area.

Is it wrong to think this should be done to every roof, even if it is not yet delaminated. MANUFACTORS please DO THIS on EVERY ROOF YOU PRODUCE. For what they charge for these RV's they should be able to spend the bit extra to properly seal and insulate and provide structure into the roof. BUT I guess they think if the roof fails after warrentee they will be able to sell another one since most would think this is too big of a job too do. After watching you do a few of these though , it does seem to be a job that IS DO ABLE, and most satisfieng when done. CHEERS AND SAFE TRAVELS Steve h.
