House of Dior is an internationally renowned brand since 1946 and has remained at the top of fashion's hierarchy for over 70 years now.
This is the story of the founder Christian Dior.
He began his career by selling some basic prints outside his home, at 10 cents per piece. From lingerie accessories, perfumes, to the most prestigious clothes, he dressed women with elegance and still does.
Celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, and many other beautiful women only swore by him. He chose to start his career in the arts and the fashion industry in Paris. Working for about fourteen years in fashion, his contributions to this industry were life-changing and endless and changed how fashion was perceived back in the 1950s.
Dior's designs are really iconic if you view the time period when they were made. It was post-war France, and artists had to take the responsibility to revive the once-thriving industry and its culture. Dior's passion did just that. In a sense, his first fashion collection, 'New Look' ignited other passions in this battlefield of trends and tastes. Dior had successfully expressed the feelings of those who believed that the older designs in women's fashion, were worth preserving.
Not many people know that Christian was a strong believer in psychics and would visit one every time he had to determine which day would be best to show his latest collection. For his very first show, he slipped a dried lily of the valley onto every hem as a sign of luck.
