same idea, the display is sending two different images to your eyes. This is why if you view the 3DS from an incorrect angle there is "ghosting" since you are getting images for the left eye to the right eye. This technology only works with smaller screens since it requires a very specific angle for the 3D effect to work or you get images sent to the wrong eye.

yes! because it has to do with binocular disparity, basically the fact that we have two eyes that are in different places and see different things

good video but there is a mistake. The cyan side lets you see the red and the red side lets you see the cyan. your diagram at 0:48 is incorrect.

I used to think this too, but you are incorrect. It's counterintuitive, but the red lens sees the red image. If you think about it, it is a red filter. It only looks red BECAUSE it's only letting red light through.
@AcmSpud
@AcmSpud 5 лет назад
I have been looking for a good explanation of this. Apparently it's not quite so simple. When you read black text on a white screen (like this), the white space is the light that reaches your eye, and the black letters actually emit no light. Similiarly, when you look through a red lens at an anaglyph 3d image, the red light is what reaches your eye (which is indeed why the lens looks red!). However, you're not seeing the red image, since it's lost in all that other red reaching your eye. It's the cyan image, which doesn't contain any of the red light being filtered through to your eye, that you actually make out through the red lens! The cyan image looks dark and defined, standing out precisely because most of the light coming from it it /doesn't/ reach your eye. (similar to the black text). I hope that makes sense (and that it's accurate)!
@TheFounderUtopia

@@AcmSpud I think you may be right. I keep going back and forth on this. A professor explained to me why we are wrong and pointed out the red light thing but the more I think about it the more I agree with you.

Woah! I got to watch this while the counter read "1 views"! Anyway, the technology behind 3D movies is far more interesting than the final product. As well as the popular polarisation, some 3D devices, mostly home televisions, use infrared synced flickers, where the glasses can block the image from one side at a time. It makes for an extremely effective and sharp 3D, but is rather unfeasible for movie theaters.

Too bad a Cyclops can not see depth, but a person/animal born with sight in both eyes, then loses one, will still be capable of perceiving depth. That's how Jason and the Argonauts really escaped with the Golden Fleece! :)

I think something is missing in this explanation. When I use my glasses to look at a roof that's reflecting sunlight (which polarizes the light), both glasses give me the same image. If I turn the glasses by 90 degrees, I see a change in color, but _it's the same for both glasses_! Can anyone explain what's going on here?

New 3D doesn't seem to be as good as old, red blue 3D. The new, gray lens 3D movies seem to start at the movie screen and go back, deeper into the screen. Red and Blue 3D came out of the screen towards you and had objects floating past your head. Jaws 3D was intense!
