The Rocks in Sydney, goes off like a frog in a sock on St Patrick's day

When I was younger Melbourne had a traditional major march up toward the Cathedral (St. Patrick's). This also included a holiday in all Catholic schools. That said I am rather old, so must say those days are past.

Outside of the Pubs themselves it isn't as well advertised. When it comes closer to the day though you will find masses of Irish stuff up for sale in all manner of shops in the lead up. Perhaps a few shops may have the typical green livery on display themselves (whether the owners are Irish or not). But on the day you will see Irish colours everywhere inside and outside the pubs (again whether they are Irish or not). All the Pubs are alive, and especially the Irish Pubs which can get pretty loud.

@@elliemajelly previous few years have been pretty low key. This year was the first year I felt it was back to St Pat's of old.

Why would Melbourne celebrate St.Pats Day.We don't celebrate Bastille Day, Mao's Birthday, the 4th of July or VE Day, VP Day or the Battle Of Hastings and we don,t remember the Alamo.

@@petermcculloch4933 Melb used to have parades. Not so much anymore outside of its own Pub's. As for "Why would Melbourne celebrate St.Pats Day?", because Melbourne is full of Irish families. Something you should know all too well about.

Nowhere celebrates St Patrick's Day harder than Americans ... including Ireland.
