Because science isn't as simple as that. Sure, this video is a nice summary, but to get more specific, you need to know more about internal cell structure, organ functions and interactions, and more. And each subject in turn requires you to know even more.

Probably the least bad chemotherapy side effect is hair loss. I have seen women who are bald but still beautiful. And if a friend of mine somehow lost her hair for any reason, I would step up and shave my hair so she isn't alone. And if I get in trouble for doing so, I would not care. It's the right thing to do.

Better later than never. You'll be even more surprised to know that, theoretically, cancer is the secret to biological immortality. Our body's cells replicate and are replaced all the time but they don't do it indefinitely like cancerous cells do. So, basically, if you could get all your body cells to be cancerous and control that division to fit a healthy growth, you could become biologically immortal. Veritasium has a really good video on this topic, you should check it out.

My dad is dying of lung cancer, all of his brothers, sisters and his father had cancer. If I get it, I will not take chemo or radiation, the 'treatment' is nearly as bad as the disease. These 'treatments' can also give rise to more cancer. I am seeing the pain Dad is having and quite frankly, death will be a blessing.

I love how informative these videos are with the clear illustration that can be comprehended by anyone regardless of medical experience. And something that i'm not sure to blame my former self or education on, it's how we hear about matters such as this all the time but we grow up and we never really know how or why it works. It's probably because we are introduced to these subjects vaguely and we are trained to memorize exam info than to actually understand it :/

Cancer is a symptom of the aging process, whereby cellular mechanics break down due to increasingly frequent copying errors. There's a limit to how many times our cells can divide before the typos add up. Eating well and exercising helps to invigorate the body's cells but they don't totally eliminate the risk of cancer.

The reason why cancer cells are so hard to figure out and why it can't be "cured" is because there are things that exist like off target effects and cancer also likes to migrate. It's very hard to specifically target for thoes reasons, while you may be able to knock down one part of the cancer the others are still developing and migrating and progressing. Its very hard to control for thoes reasons..

Interesting that you say that because I'm actually studying nutritional sciences in school at the moment. Learning about the way food interacts in our bodies is truly eye opening. It's unfortunate to hear people say they eat whatever they want because everyone dies or "you only live once", because once you get older, all of those bad habits/choices catch up to you and make the last few years of your life a lot more difficult. Hindsight truly is 20/20.

Question: I couldn't help but realize that in the same way that cancer cells have mutated in a way that causes them to reproduce unstopably and sabotage functions of the body, human beings have similarly mutated to reproduce and destroy ecosystems uncontrollably, preventing sustainable function of our biosphere (climate change, death of pollinators, pollution of soil, water, and air.. ). This is more about what happens when you get diagnosed with cancer and how we fight it, not really focused on the difference between cancerous cells and normal cells. There are actually some very interesting characteristics in cancer cells, like their apparent immortality that I assumed this video would be describing.

A cell is the most vulnerable when it's dividing. A cell doesn't exactly give birth to a new cell, it simply makes a copy of itself inside itself, then split itself in two. That's why "both" die when it's dividing, because they weren't even two yet. There was just the one cell in the middle of dividing.

since they are invading the human body and disrupting the natural growth and cell division in cells they can start to also cause other cells to starve. In some cases, if a tumor is big enough it would start to aquire it's own blood supply (a term in Oncology known as "Angiogenesis" I can't recall if they mentioned it in the video) so in that case the tumour is also snatching away nutrient and oxygen supply that would otherwise go the surrounding tissue causing the cells in the healthy tissue to starve essentially as well.

When an oncologist tells you in a subtle way to consider all the angles or to make and educated decision, he is advising you to not use chemo. (He/she is bound by a contract with the drug companies and hospitals to not encourage other treatment.) Rather, get yourself educated in alternate treatments - treatments that work on the entire body system. Do your homework! And the big tell is when an oncologist gets cancer, they look for alternative treatments. There is quite a lot of money to be made from these drugs. Paying top dollar for poison with all the advancements we have made in science and technology seems barbaric. I compare Chemo treatment like trying to kill a mosquito in your bathroom with a machine gun... you might get it, but look at all the damage done!

Some doctors use Chemo as a way to shut a dying persons body down. It is a hidden way to stop the cancer suffer from the pain.

Don't be against chemotherapy. Its awful and has devestating side effects, but for many its the only thing that can give them a longer life, or any hope of a cure. Medicine is (should) only ever be given to the patient if the benefits outweigh the risks; so if somebody is put onto chemotherapy a hard well-thought out decision has been made by a doctor somewhere. :)
