Regarding a different call: the lady called in with the daughter who wanted to bring her boyfriend of 6 months on a family trip -Dr Laura said no but how are you ever going to learn if he' can be part of the family if he's not engaged in family activities. You can sleep in a different bedroom you shouldn't date from a distance get married and then have everything explode in front of you. Shack up 1st, Live with someone get to know them better and then get married. How can anyone possibly get married without living together first to see if it's going to work. Just BAD ADVICE... there's going to be hundreds of things you're going to learn about your new hubby because you didn't shack up 1st. Is he a slob, does he put the toilet seat down, can you tolerate someone for a full week much less the rest of your life as by dating you're only getting 3-hour slices. Marriage is not a casual thing . You should not treat it that way that's why every third call of hers is telling someone to get divorced. Get married get divorced get married get divorced, etc etc if you shack up first there would be far far fewer divorces as you would have learned ahead of time if you can tolerate someone 24/7 in the same house most importantly.

I'm happy to pay for my 'girlfriend". It's implicit that if she fails to perform for me, I will pay for some other woman.

If I pay for restaurant or vacation, then I decide how much it will cost or to skip it. Instead of Mexico, we'll go for a drive. If she volunteers to contribute, then of course we can upgrade.

I'm 75, and back in the day, men did pay for everything. I don't agree with Dr. Laura. This is 2024 and times have changed, as has the economy. Women today have careers and earn money. I don't think two people should keep score and split everything 50/50, but surely the woman has some obligation to reciprocate. The man mentioned travel, which can come to thousands of $$$. Both of them can treat the other and both should contribute. Personally I wouldn't want to feel obligated to anyone, if they were constantly paying out for me. If nothing else, it is one sided, which does not make the two people equal.

@@drlaura Then my morals, values and principles are different from yours, Dr. Laura. To me it would be morally wrong, unfair, greedy, and very self absorbed to expect anyone to pay my way, if I didn't reciprocate. What you suggested is that the man must show caring, while the woman is just indulged. I would not be happy always taking, but never giving, especially if I could afford to do so.
