Nobody likes changing jointer knives. Hopefully this video makes it a little less painful. My jointer is a Ridgid JP06101, so the process may differ for your model.
The carbide knives I bought came from mywoodcutters.com/.

How tight should I make the chip deflector screws? 1/8 turn past tight?

Great video. Question, have you tried a jointer pal? If so, what method do you think is better for setup?

If you look closely at the end of the video when I do the test cut, you can see one stuck to the front left of my jointer. Not really sure why I don't use it, but I find the scrap wood method to be just as easy and effective.

Hi there.. A question I have for you.. On minute 8:24 you are using an allen key to adjust the height of the knive, I think you call it set screw. Is that the purpose of these 2 screws on the cutter head? You are the first I see using this screw, all others are adjusting the height by the screws that holding the knive itself. Thanks.

Yes, on my jointer, the blades sit on top of the two set screws so they can be used for fine adjustment. The screws also help prevent the knives from shifting over time.

Thanks for the video on changing the jointer blades. I have that Ridgid JP06101 jointer myself and this is my first time changing the cutting blades. I have a feeling I’ll be watching your video again. One question, did you lower either of the beds to get better access to the blades ?
@TheSnekkerShow
@TheSnekkerShow 5 месяцев назад
I'm glad it was helpful. You don't need to change the height of the beds, but I like to do the test cuts with a very light pass.

@@TheSnekkerShow I do all my cuts with very lite passes. I’ll set it up like you do in your video then. Thanks again.

How have the carbide coated knives held up, compared to HSS? Big price difference, did you find value in the change?

I think I should have invested in the helical head. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RxmBynXg9s4.html

I still have one of the carbide knives in the jointer, but the other two are steel. I still haven't decided if it's worth sharpening the carbide ones. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6vudqFvFu7E.html

Have you tried helicoidal/spiral blade adapter? I am looking for what benefits they have as they are quite expensive.

Not yet on my jointer, but it's on my wish list. I installed one in my thickness planer three years ago and I'm a big fan. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-47PyY4K47KU.html

The next step should then be how to change them before setting them...

Any clown that doesn't know they should unplug a power tool before working on it shouldn't own a power tool. I doubt they'll be changing jointer blades if they've never worked a jointer before.
