I'm from Kenya and I do agree that in African cultures, putting yourself first is considered selfish and looked down upon so I have had to fight those beliefs so I can take care of myself. Especially since I'm a new single mom to twins, its become so important to prioritize self-care!

Thank you for this. I don't think anybodys going to read this, but currently I'm the only black girl in my entire secondary school year. I'm extremely awkward and let people step all over me, this including staying friendly with peers who've displayed racist behaviour towards me. I'm now realising this is coming from a place of self hatred and I'm trying to understand my own self worth.

Love that we are now in times where we can be honest about the need and benefits of doing therapy! I honestly think we could all benefit from this! There is no shame in consistently working on yourself!!

Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently doing my Honours Degree, and we are quite a small class. Thus it is easier to spot minor injustices. I'm working hard at protecting my self-confidence and self-worth which is a challenge as white students get far more recognition in a particular class of mine. I’ve literally just discovered your channel....would really appreciate a video on how to journal please, and I just want to say thank you for sharing this video because i am the only black person in my sixth form and it’s so hard that us black girls have to go through so much but as soon as I express some form of emotion I am automatically labelled at sassy or aggressive or angry and I’m fed up of not being able to express myself...also about the hair thing I get that all the time it’s really annoying

I found this video looking for information for a graduate school project (counselor). I'm making a directory website for immigrants in my area to find beneficial information that helps them combat trauma, stress, etc. And I just had to say, though I am white, I have extremely curly, unruly hair (I call it my lion's mane). As a teenager, young adult, and now an adult, my mother always told me (still tells me) to straighten my hair for job interviews, when going out to nice restaurants, when having pictures taken, etc. I find it extremely annoying. I love letting my lion's mane be untamed =) Thank you for this video. I truly believe it will help a lot of people!
