This is an excellent episode. I enjoyed it and think it will be helpful in my quilting skills and learning how to design. I like the shower curtain and preview paper idea. I agree saving the preview paper will help with remembering your designs while quilting. Thank you for this great episode.

Great episode ladies! I am now inspired to try a new technique on each and every quilt I load on my Amara. I finally quilted my Midnight Silhouette with LOTS of black negative space after holding on to it for 4 years, gaining confidence. Wish I would have seen this episode first, but it turned out great. Lots of good ideas here.

I just found you Girls! Ya'll are flawless! Omgggg I love the setup on the wall! I have never had anyone quilt my quilts. I do mine on my home sewing machine. I do quilt as u go. Mine is sew different. You can't tell I pieced it. I love this video it's a perfect guide to understanding where to start. Just before finishing my blocks I get in that stuck mode I got to make this one stand out!!! Your video will be my reference.

Great tips on how to quilt! I stumbled onto your episode while ordering machine needles for some reason!:) I love the shower curtain idea - so smart and ironically I just took mine down, washed and now I'll use it as my practice sheet. Good thing I purchased another clear one to replace it. I've only been quilting with my Q'nique/hoop frame for about 2 years now. I absolutely love the new ideas for quilt designs, as I've cinnamon rolled most of the ones I've finished! LOL! Thank you Kim and Kristina for your awesome ideas! I am a new subscriber too!

Take pictures of your practice ideas and send them to your quilting friends-committee, have voting or crowd sourcing. Keep the pictures of your creative ideas for the next time you need an idea, it doesn’t take up physical space. You can also take a picture with your tablet and draw out possible designs, this helps you see the whole quilt and allows you to see negative space in a different way

Thanks for the great video! There are a ton of great tips. Here's a thread tip. I write down the name and color of the quilting thread I used on my paper pattern. Sometimes, it comes in handy as a reference guide, or if down the road you see you missed a spot and want to fill it in.

Love the brainstorming you both did. Although I've listened several times to what the plastic on the roll that you used, I couldn't understand what was said. Please share what the rolled plastic that you used to draw on is called. Thanks!

They used a clear shower curtain. I purchased clear vinyl by the yard from Joann's (with a coupon, of course). You can purchase different thicknesses. Sometimes, I use the purple air erase marker to test out a design. If a design isn't too complicated, I'll also use the purple marker to mark my actual quilt as I go along. This way saves time, you don't have to bother "water erasing" the blue marker when you are finished.

When you use sew fine as top thread on your longarm, what do you use in the bobbin. I have been trying to use sew fine on my gammill classic plus.
@HandiQuilter
@HandiQuilter Год назад
I usually use Superior Threads prewound bobbins. They are a Bottomline 60 wt thread. You can use whatever thread you like though!!

What Pro-stitcher settings (spi and speed) do you use with Monopoly thread? Any other tips for use with this thread?
@HandiQuilter
@HandiQuilter Год назад
Just your regular SPI. I generally do about 12. Speed is up to you. If you get lots of breaking, you can slow down. If you have a hard time seeing to thread it, use a sharpie to color the end of the thread.

Wool shrinks if you wash quilt. Baby quilts and smaller quilts need cleaning more often

Do you have to launder quilts with wool batting differently?
@HandiQuilter
@HandiQuilter Год назад
Refer to the batting instructions for laundering.

Is there any reason to use the preview paper rather than the shower curtain itself?
@HandiQuilter
@HandiQuilter Год назад
The preview paper isn't as bulky if you are working in a smaller section.

There are several videos that go through the quilting process. Is there a step in particular that you are referring to?

What is a ghost echo?
@HandiQuilter

It is quilting a shape from the quilt but usually in negative space. There is another video on ghost quilting.
