Hi. Thanks for this. I’ve read that ditching the dummy at 3 months is best before they reach 4 months and it becomes a deep rooted sleep association. He is 14 weeks and we have ditched the dummy for the past two nights and he scream/cries for sometime 35 minutes whilst we rub his tummy in his cot. Happened 3 times last night. We pick him up and cuddle him after 20 mins and he Instantly falls asleep in our arms...but we are wary of rocking him to sleep in our arms as that is developing another addictive sleep association that will be hard to get out of. He is the same for day time naps unless he is in the sling. Some people say it can take up to a week before things get easier. Is this true ? Is 35 minutes too long to let him cry even if our hands are on his body comforting him the whole time?

Oh he also has acid reflux so we worry he needs the dummy for comfort to settle his stomach….and feel bad taking that away from him

If you want to remove the dummy I would recommend settling your Little One right to sleep for the first couple of days, focus on getting them to sleep without the dummy first. Then work on the self settling. You could start by rocking your Little One, whilst patting and shhshhh at the same time. When drowsy continue patting and shhhshhh while you lay them in bed feet first, continue patting till asleep, or till drowsy then walk out, wait 6mins and repeat if not asleep.

You can certainly try this now. If you want to remove the dummy I would recommend settling your Little One right to sleep for the first couple of days, focus on getting them to sleep without the dummy first.

Hi. I’m following your sleeping program for 3-12 months and it works brilliant for us. Currently, my baby (4 half months) is teething (3rd coming out now). He doesn’t cry for the dummy during the night when it fall out, but he cries for it at naps. Would you recommend to still keep the dummy while he’s still teething? Or I could still work in getting rid of it? He was getting better going for naps before, until I’ve see his first tooth, so then I decided to give it back to him. Thanks

Hi Ewana, if you post in the village inside our App our consultants can help you with this one. If the dunny is affecting his naps then you might need to consider ditching it.

Hello, sorry if you did mention it but do we wait for the sleep regression or not? I am not entirely sure if my girl went through it early because we did see a change in sleep for about a week and a half there. She's now 3.5 months. I'd love to get rid of the dummy. Should I wait a tiny bit longer?

They aren't self settling until they can replace the dummy themselves as the dummy is a parent assisted sleep aid until that happens. They will need you to replace the dummy until they are able to do it for themselves, at around 8-10 months. If you want to remove the dummy I would recommend settling your Little One right to sleep for the first couple of days, focus on getting them to sleep without the dummy first. Then work on the self settling. You could start by rocking your Little One, whilst patting and shhshhh at the same time. When drowsy continue patting and shhhshhh while you lay them in bed feet first, continue patting till asleep, or till drowsy then walk out, wait 6mins and repeat if not asleep or 'crying up'.

Hi im kind of in the same situation my lo is 3 months .sleeps great and everything but i want to wean him off the paci before we hit the 4 month sleep regression and i have to replace it all night long. Did u end up weaning ur baby off it ? How dis it go??

Thanks for this really useful. One question though please: you didn’t really touch on the crying that comes with changing their pacifier routine. What happens if they work themselves up with crying and you miss the sleep window you’d just calmed them down for?
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 3 года назад
Hi Nick, If they are getting really distressed you can soothe them however you need to and if you do end up going past their awake time keep settling until they're asleep without the pacifer. It may push your day a little but it will only be short lived as they'll soon adjust to no pacifier.

This is fantastic Thankyou. Can I ask If the sleepy tot (pacifier holder) can be used in a cot with bub? (My baby girl is currently going through the 4 month regression) but not overly affected. She is having cat naps twice a day and having a larger afternoon nap and a tiny nap before bed. At night she sleeps 12 hours but does wake occasionally for her dummy. I am very diligent with awake times during the day however sometimes she’s just so exhausted. And at night I find waiting a little while when she does grizzle for her dummy helps as she normally keeps on sleeping 😴

Hi there, great your LO isnt overly affected by the regression. Sleepytots are quite breathable, they cant usually get the hang of replacing a dummy themselves until around 6-8 months old. Sounds like your LO is doing really well though!

Hi, we want to get rid of the pacifier since she constently wakes up at night when it falls off. She is used to drink a bottle after her bath and she usually false asleep drinking. If we want to remove the pacifier, do we also have to change our bedtime routine so she does not fall asleep drinking? Thanks for your hello!

Yes, try to space the final feed about 30mins prior to bedtime.

@@littleonesbabysleep We have ditched the pacifier for almost a weak now and our little girl finally fell asleep on her own in her crib with only a bit of bottom patting last night. But as the night sleep is improving significantly, the daytime naps are becoming a nightmare, we can't seem to be able to get her to sleep during the day. We tried putting her in her crib and settling her as soon as she shows signs of fatigue, and we tried to get her almost asleep in our arms before putting her in the crib and patting her bottom but non of it seems to work. Do you have any tips?

My LO is 7months old now. Can I use the same strategies to get rid of her dummy?
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 3 года назад
Hi ZebbyZelf, Once babies hit 6 months old it can be a lot trickier to get rid of the dummy and they can now start learning to replace it themselves meaning less replacing for you which is quite handy. If you do really want to get rid of it now then yes you absolutely can use the same strategies. If you want to keep it for now and tackle it later on then you can work on your baby replacing it by guiding their hand to the dummy and then hand to mouth each time you need to replace it so they learn to search for it and pop it in.

Thanks for your reply. Yes my LO is able to grab her dummy and put it back to her mouth since she was 5months old so I put like 3 dummies around her. But sometimes she knocks them off and they are all end up on the floor. And we have to wake up and replace them. Is it necessary to get rid of dummy or its okay to have her keep using it? I don't want her to use dummy until she is like 2years old waling around with dummy in her mouth 😑

Thanks for the info! I use your program and have amazing results: My little one is about to turn 4 months. We always put him to bed awake and 90% of the time it’s with a pacifier. We leave the room and then he falls asleep himself. He doesn’t wake during the night for resettling with the dummy, just once, and that’s to be fed. That tells me he settles himself between cycles and we are so thankful. My question is : looking at his age, do you think this will start to change soon - that is: not being able to settle himself or are we on to a good thing now and it probably be ok? I’ve thought about removing the dummy but we’re not sure I need to? Your advice would be appreciated.
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 4 года назад
Hi Nicole, he may start to wake more often for his dummy to be replaced if he hasnt yet 'hit the 4 month regression' but he may not, some babies arent really overly affected by it. If having the dummy is working for you currently then great! Dont fix what's not broken. If it starts to become an issue you can address it at that point.

This is exactly my situation atm with my almost 3 month old except she seems to be catnapping during the day now due to the pacifier. Thank you for your video. I’m going to try your weaning technique. Wish me luck 🤞

My baby is 5 months next week and their teething process has started (no teeth/lots of saliva coming out of her mouth and putting her fist in her mouth). While she initially didn't like the pacifier she likes to use it now. I am a bit concerned as I am exclusively breastfeeding her and find that she's not lasting as long as she used to and also I'm concerned she's getting used to the pacifier. Can you advise if I should remove the pacifier or wait and try other teething soothers to help her?
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 3 года назад
Hi Kashish, You are finding she's not feeding as long as she used to or she's not sleeping as long as she used to?? at 5 months their breastfeeds will likely shorten in length as they have become much more efficient feeders. If her sleeps aren't as long as they used to be it possibly is due to the pacifier and her needing it replaced between cycles or it may be she needs an adjustment to her awake windows between naps to help her lengthen them a bit. It's totally your call whether you remove the pacifier or not. If you feel it's becoming or has already become an association that you are needing to replace every 30-45 mins during day sleeps and 2hrly overnight then I would probably look to remove it. If you aren't having to do that many replacements or the replacements you are doing are at a manageable level for you then you can hold onto it. In a month or so she will be able to learn to replace it herself.

Would you also need to use your settling method when putting the dummy back in during the night or just leave them to fall back asleep?
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 4 года назад
if you are using another settling method alongside the dummy for resettles then yes use that too, ie if they are rocked to sleep and use a dummy as well, you can then ditch the dummy and continue rocking for a bit longer then work on removing the rocking or the other way around, keep the dummy, ditch the rocking then ditch the dummy later.

My baby is 6 weeks old and colicky. How to train for sleep? Can I introduce her to a pacifier?
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 3 года назад
Hi Parul, Pacifiers can be great settling tools and if you'd like to use one and your baby will accept one then absolutely go for it. They can become an association around 4 months old meaning you may need to replace it a lot for your baby but you may not have any troubles with it. What if nothing stops the baby from crying?? Tried to remove the pacifier from the night routine and it led to hell .... Can't take too much of that desperate crying 😔
@littleonesbabysleep
@littleonesbabysleep 2 года назад
When working on self settling we usually say to initially work on just the start of naps and bedtimes until they've got that nailed and are self settling 80-90% of the time, and while that's happening continue to resettle during naps and overnight as you were previously... Once they've got the hang of the start of sleeps move onto working on the resettles.
