this is How i remove painted screws from a door hinge, these are old slotted screws covered in paint. I needed to remove the screws from the door hinges so i could remove the door from the frame to cut it down and fit the new carpet.
painted screws in door hinges is a pain, but removing them doesn't have to be a nightmare. this is an easy way to remove screws full of paint, before I try to back out painted screws I use this method to remove the paint from the head of the screw so I have the best chance to back the screw out 1st time. failing to get them out can cause a load of damage if the screw head becomes ruined from trying to unscrew them, than you can no longer actually fully remove the screws. once in this position it can be very hard to remove the screw from the door hinges and normally results in damaging the door frame to get them out. ( sometimes you can drill the screws heads off to remove the hinge however you then have the threads left in the door frame and that can cause problems too.
the process to remove the painted screws I use requires no power tools and limited hand tools but I follow a series of steps to give myself the best chances of removing them, and you can see it works even in this case where the door hinge are smothered in gloss, to the point its hard to see the screw slots from them being filled with so much paint. However sometimes the screw can become to damaged to unscrew and requires more work to remove.
