I never liked fuzz pedals until I reached the stage of playing when I learned how to play with my amp on a higher gain setting and use my volume knob to clean up. After I got used to that method of tone tweaking a fuzz pedal became a totally different effect. With the volume rolled down you get that subtle fuzz warmth with that edge. You can play full chords and the fuzz mostly stays out of the way unless you dig in hard. Then you can roll up for that Hendrix violin tone for the big single notes that bloom. Just like you guys illustrated so well in this video. Another important lesson I learned that also applies with other effects is subtly. Subtle use of chorus, flange and reverb also make them so much more useful.

I started loving fuzz pedals about a year ago and i used to hate it before that. I started liking it after i discovered TC Electronic Rusty and Honey Fuzz. Now i own 5 fuzz pedals in total. The thing with fuzz is, it's a dark sound compared to an overdrive and it gets you time to find the right one. Also one more thing that i absolutely don't get with fuzz pedals is that some sound really weird. Sometimes i hear one and i think "there's no way that someone can make music with that sound" 😀

Many years ago, we were throwing out one of those old school tacky big screen tv's with speakers built into it. Somehow I rigged my guitar up to it and got the nastiest most low fi sounding fuzz like distortion out of it. It was awesome. If you listen to the Mentally Ill's Gacy's Place, it sounded almost exactly like that. If you have Amplitube 5, there's a preset called "garbage champ" which basically nails that tone. It's so close, that I'm convinced the guy who made it must have been a fan of the Mentally Ill.

Even after a professional setup by my local luthier, it's my least favorite guitar to play of my three electrics. After a setup by the same luthier, my 2021 Epiphone LP Custom Koa stays in tune all day long, the intonation is dead on all the way up the fretboard, and it just plain feels RIGHT to my admittedly amateur hands. One of the things I've learned early on my guitar journey is that good "bedroom tone" does not always - almost never - translates to good live band sound. I've been wanting to add a fuzz pedal to my board. I like the sound of it, but I've never used one in a live settings and I feel like it caould be hard to manage in a live setting where you often need to cut through without getting louder than the singer / other instruments.

I believe it was either Josh Scott or one of Pedal Show guys that said that most fuzzes have a lot fewer components than other drive pedals, so as a result the way that all those work together matters a lot more. I think that applies to fuzzes as a unit as well. A specific fuzz has its own sound, but the guitar you have, the amp, the other pedals. All that affects how it sounds too, more than a lot of other pedals.

I really appreciate the lesson on how to work with a fuzz, and what the guitar controls bring to it. I'll be getting a lot more out of it now. Now, if I only had a living situation where I could turn anything above 2... I'd love if you could do a video about getting a decent tone at apartment/bedroom/hotel room volume levels. I did pick up, from Rhett, the turn the amp up and the guitar vol down trick. That works pretty well; but if I want to use my vol pot to control the fuzz, it may be a while before I find out what it can really do.

Fuzz is fantastic. I am particularly fond of the Blackarts Toneworks pedals. I like tone benders, muffs and the Univox Superfuzz too. It's everywhere and one of the great unsung heroes of music.

Watching y’all was an absolute blast! (I’m a newer player). I’ve got to order some new tuners, I think I’m going to throw the behringer fuzz in my cart as well! …or the boss!

I bought my first Octave Fuzz (Augustas) It’s completely bad ass but it totally changes how you play. Like you can’t play chords with major 3rds. :) Only straight forward blues and 1sts and 5ths sound incredible. Awesome vid guys. ✊🏽

Great video & the Behringer super fuzz is incredible but you did put the fender octave fuzz on my radar

It’s fun to experiment with effects and try stuff out, not everything will appeal to you, but it’s fun to try And there are pedals that really suit one player that won’t work for another. So if a pedal doesn’t work for me, I don’t write it off for everybody, just isn’t my thing. Same if I love a pedal, I know it doesn’t work for everyone So my advice is to keep an open mind & try it out. (And while there are some cool sounds in this video, they don’t fit what I do, but that’s okay-if we all used the same sounds & pedals it would get boring.) Cool video.

It had been YEARS (Okay... Decades!) since I had investigated the FUZZ in my Music. It's BACK!!!! I recently got the Keeley Fuzz Blender. Couldn't be happier.

Awesome video. I only have a couple of "fuzz-pedals" in an old zoom g3. Great soloing liquid leads as well. Will buy some good but in the lower price bracket to begin with. This was a real treat. Thanks dudes!

I bought the 3MuF-14 by Rude Tech from RJ when he was cleaning out his demo stash. It's a pretty versatile pedal with 3 fuzz versions, a mid-drive and sustain with a trim pot etc. It's made in Nashville. Pretty cool pedal.

In the mid-70s, as a Teen, I turned a Fuzz and a Distortion pedal up to 4 'o'clock, each. I got the coolest Frigid Pink, Iron Butterfly sound. 😬

Back in the 70s, I played a Maestro “Fuzztain” and a MuTron Phasor. That fuzz sounded enormous and, with the MuTron, it sounded like clouds of doom. The guitar I used was an Ovation Breadwinner, which had active tone controls. Rolling the tone knob back boosted the bass freqs, which made that fuzz sound huge.

I still have a mu-tron phaser. My dad got it when they first came out. I dont use it very often but its fun to plug in and experiment with some trippy stuff when I'm in the mood

I've never owned a fuzz pedal, but when I noticed my Headrush unit had an Octavia-style effect, I thought why not try it out. Now I can't resist it. It's instant Hendrix, Trower, Gilmour heaven. Especially with a univibe added to the mix.

I liked what I heard. And I had a couple bucks to spend. So I went to my local guitar store and checked out the fuzzes they had in stock in the range up to $120. I loved the Hammertone best, so I picked one up. I've played it all night. Next I'm going to take it to a local blues jam and see how it goes. I especially like the clean tones with the guitar at about 2 and the fuzz down low, and as a bonus I can finally get a really nice slide tone with a glass slide! I love how the notes sing. Thanks for showing all the awesome things you can do with a fuzz! Keep the music alive! :D

The Kingmaker is fantastic. It’s ridiculously customizable. One thing a lot of people do t like about fuzz is how much noise they usually make, but the Kingmaker has the best noise gate I’ve ever heard in it.

LOVE fuzz! Folks that hate it are thinking closed minded while perceiving it as wide open and/or in-ur-face. So many great tones were crafted with fuzz. Fuzz requires experimenting and creativity. Some folks are afraid of challenge and don’t know what they’re missing out on
