I live near to the airport but they dont bother me because they dont fly over houses so inside of the house i dont even hear anythink. Airport is about 5 or 10 km away from my house. I love liveing there but everytime i see planes i get jealous because i want to fly. Hope covid-19 end soon.
I would LOVE to live there, have my bed right over the slanted window, and watch the planes right above me... But dreams rarely come true in my life. Annnd, the rest of my family doesn't like planes.
I've sailed a boat in a reservoir on the approach to Heathrow. You can almost taste the fuel as they go over. And the reservoir is London drinking water ⛽😳
Hope youve hot a couple of hundred thousand spare😂 i did aviation at college and we looked at the price of houses round there. It actually did shock me how expensive it is.
I have a relative who lives in Chiswick, about 15km East of the airport as the crow flies. When I've stayed there, the planes have woken me up at 5.30am every morning and it continues right through till around 11pm I think. Even at that distance, double glazing doesn't make any difference. I know people get used to regular noises but I cannot understand how anyone could live that close!
I don’t live near an International Airport, it’s around 10 kms away from me. But my house is in the middle of a flight route of some incoming and outvoting planes. As an avid plane spotter, this is amazing for me. And the planes fly over my house only in the afternoon so it doesn’t disturb my sleep.
Exactly. I used to live under the Heathrow flight path and found the silence in the night quite disturbing. The first plane over in the morning would send me comfortably back to sleep - until the alarm clock rang.
I only know cos I work for Oxford bus company and they have a the airline service that goes to Heathrow/Gatwick I do the first coach run in the morning from Heathrow so know little bit about the place but the coaches that go to Gatwick through the night stop at terminal 5 on the way to Gatwick and back to Oxford lol should of said all of this but I’m up way before the first plane lands at Heathrow
If someone offered me a house at or near Myrtle Avenue, I'd definitely accept :) The main annoyance people have, according to news articles about the area, isn't from the planes themselves, but the fact there isn't really anywhere suitable for parking. Some visitors end up blocking driveways with their cars and parking in other inconvenient places.
I think people there get used to it... it’s like white noise.... like me, I couldn’t sleep if it’s too quiet.... the sound of the AC, a fan , a tv, or my white noise machine is essential for me to sleep! So I think I would like this!
Back in the 1960's I lived in Niceville, FL (near Eglin AFB, dad was in the military). The neighborhood we resided was right below where the military aircraft would come low overhead as they were making their final approach for landing. This went on literally 24/7. I didn't mind, enjoyed sitting out in the front yard to watch them fly over. Nearly all the types of aircraft the USAF were using at that time, you would see and hear them, loud and clear.
I used to live under the landing path for Toronto. In the late 1950s til around 1970, the jets were very loud and if you were in a conversation, you just got in the habit of pausing and waiting for the jet to pass. My cousin lived right by the airport where it was worse. Thankfully the airport shut down at night. The jets today are so much quieter , you hardly notice them.
I live in Redmond, Washington under an approach path for SEA, it’s not very loud (but we do sometimes have fighter jets and apaches/chinooks fly low over us) and has always been fun for me to watch them on the rare occasion it’s clear enough to do so
It's Myrtle Avenue, the aircraft are landing on 27 Right.....The planes don't actually fly right over the houses, they come in over Hounslow, across a field with horses in it, cross the A30 and touch down on the runway behind the perimeter fence. The angle of filming makes it look worse than it is......although you will hear the noise of them.....
I lived in the flight path of our local airport for years. In time, the arrival of planes becoming a sort of comforting white noise. You could tell the type of plane based on engine noise and could almost set your clock based on the precision of the arrivals day by day.
To those who think you won't be able to sleep, Heathrow implements a curfew between 11pm and 6am so no planes landing or taking off between those times
Back in the 1970's, I lived in downtown Toronto near the railway tracks. In those days they used to use those track for freight trains all night long, before they started to bypass downtown Toronto by using tracks north of the city. At first I couldn't get any sleep, but after awhile you become so used to it that you don't notice the noise at all. I am sure it is the same with those living closed to Heathrow.
My aunt and uncle lives in one of those houses. They have triple glazing, so even l could sleep there. A couple of days ago he told me his neighbors complain about his tv being too loud. He is quite old and death, plus he falls asleep. Visiting a few years ago we sat in their lovely garden chatting. We felt we could see the whites of the pilots’ eyes. My uncle just carried on talking until l signaled l couldn’t hear what he was saying.
to be honest, i really wouldnt mind living here. the only bad part about it is that i cant sleep unless there is no noise and that would be an issue lol. but id just sit out on a chair for like 5 hours just watching planes land because i honestly love planes.
Lived beside Prestwick airport in the 80s. Concorde used to go there for training - that was _loud_. Especially the full-afterburner touch-and-go (which wouldn't have been done normally at Heathrow).
@@Nickbaldeagle02 move then. You can't moan about something that was there a long time before you lived there. If you don't like it why buy a house next to an airport
Well it’s known that if Heathrow sneezes the whole world catches a cold. Since 94% of all flights are international and 6% are domestic compared to the worlds busiest airport which is currently Atlanta, Georgia with 75%international and 25% domestic
the flight path changes at 3pm every day for that reason. a plane lands/takes off every 45 seconds at heathrow so it’s constantly busy. the runway shuts at about 11:30pm and opens around 4:30am to allow people to sleep !
I used to live in that street. Almost hit by tiles as the roof fell off due to wing vortices. Never bothered by the noise. Costs £400k for a house there. Worse noise was living in Hammersmith next to the underground viaduct, at least airport stopped after 11:30
WOW 😯 it almost looks like those humongous planes are trying to land right on the roof tops. I can just imagine the noise and probably the vibrations these planes ✈️ cause. As much as I love planes... I don’t think I could live in the flight path to Heathrow. Great 👍 video though! Thanks for posting.
I went on holiday to Tattershall Lakes, the planes would fly over all the time, but they were the airshow ones and they were loud enough. I couldn't wait to go home! Lol it's certainly an experience!
Cool! I wouldn't be as concerned with lack of sleep as I would be worrying if one may miss the runway or have a last minute problem& crash into my home!😲
Most of the people who live obviously know it's right next to an airport. They get used to the planes. I often fall to sleep listening to very loud thunder storms and heavy rain. Sometimes with headphones on. It's a form of ASMR.
Is the apartments next the the longest runway? Bc some of these planes are huge double decker planes, scares me just watch these huge planes just above the building. We I was younger I lived in an apartment that shared a parking lit with a hospital, yes I lived steps away from the hospital. Their helicopter landed in the parking lot we shared, and when it took off or landed it would shack the apartment building. It took me like a month to get use to it. That was hard enough couldnt image having a 747 pretty much land on bottom of me while I was home.
I think at 1pm at Heathrow the active runway is switched. They land on left and takeoff from right and change that at 1pm. And odd and even weeks are also swapped so one week is louder on mornings and one week is evenings. So it is not constant 24/7. And there is five hours or something of no activity, if I remember from 1am to 6am.
Only of recent I have been to a neighborhood in ATL behind right behind KATL and trust me the noise is not that bad.The vibration is what's annoying! Takeoff is obviously worst when the wind direction changes
I went to visit my aunt years ago - got there at night - and woke up in terror at 4am when I heard what I learned later was a train that went by her apartment. The tracks were 10 ft from her home. After a couple of days I'd sleep through the night and although I'd hear the train during the day I just got used to it.
Have you ever been tempted to knock on one of the doors and ask them, what’s it like living here? Day to day living alone must be crazy, let alone sleeping!
The prevailing wind direction at Heathrow is westerly/south-westerly, and the runways run east-west. In normal operations, take-offs and landings are from west to east. There is more housing on the western side of the airport; to the east there are mostly reservoirs and green space. This video shows a landing from the east - hence the houses. Anecdotally, and for what it's worth, much of the housing around Heathrow is occupied by airport workers. Night operations at Heathrow are strictly controlled.
i think people get used to the noise, they develop some sort of immunity to it. It happened to me when i moved to an apartment next to the train tracks. At first it was annoying having to hear train noise every 30 minutes or so, but two months after the noise became a part of the general ambience and i barely gave it a thought.
Believe it or not, you get use to it. My apartment was right on the landing & take off at St. Louis International airport (Lambert Field) 1 every 3 min around the clock 365 days a year back in the 70s. It's not that busy now. Plus the aircraft have gotten much quieter since then. No snap crackle & pop. Todays engine have a weird moan.
How do people sleep there? Easy to answer: First, all videos of the landings have been taken during the day, while most of the people are supposed to be at their workplaces. Secondly Heathrow Airport is closed during later night. Thirdly, everyone who moved into these houses knew that there are the 2 runways of LHR behind these houses, as LHR was not built out of a surprise over night....
A lot of those houses are brick, and brick does an excellent job of not letting noise thru. I also assume most of those houses would have a little extra insulation, maybe even sound deadening insulation installed.
‘Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’ is the the busiest airport in the world. It may not quite see the kind of international traffic which London does, but for the sheer amount of passengers it handles, Atlanta has consistently held the number 1 position, year after year, as “The Busiest Airport in the World”.
Anyone resident near Heathrow holding a negative view of aviation, having taken up residence since the creation, in 1929, of the then Great West Aerodrome - are to be ignored. 🙂🇬🇧 “It was there when you bought/built/occupied your house......and, it’s a business...... all businesses seek to expand, evolve and grow...”
I used to live near LAX under a flight pattern, we were less than a mile from the airport so the planes were really low. If we were having a conversation, everyone stopped till the plane went over and started up again like nothing happened. Sleeping isnt hard because you get used to it. I didnt even hear them after a while.
The houses in the street have Tripple Glazed Windows to Stop the noise from being too loud so technically they can’t hear much and plus the planes at London Heathrow Stop at 12:00 am and then continue at 5:00 am. Heathrow pay for the Tripple Glazed Windows so that it can still be a residential zone.
Why would you sleep when you could enjoy watching planes in such spectacular location, I would pay anything to live in location like that. I got a villa in similar location but nowhere near the traffic, every time I hear approaching plane I run out to watch. Just love it.
